I agree, hard not to based on that.  My point is this program deserves more than Miles results, and without a doubt more than the Fred results. And just cause Miles had more "success" then Fred, doesn't mean Miles was the answer and he should still be here.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Fidler.   Pretty sure he would have a lot of options if he entered the portal.

I don't buy that. We may never be a permanent fixture in the top 4 in the league (at least not in my lifetime), but we can become a solid middle-of-the-pack team that makes the NCAA more often than not. It's not THAT hard. Honestly, the one thing we need is somebody in the administration who gives a damn about basketball. And have that person talk with people outside the NU program who actually know the sport because there isn't a top-notch basketball guy on the staff.

Schools like Iowa State and Kansas State aren't perennial top 10 programs, but they really care about hoops and they have people in their programs who understand the sport. There's no reason we can't reach AT LEAST that level.

KState has made it to the NCAA 9 times in the last 20 years and they're unhappy. Iowa State has made it 9 times and they fired their coach last year, even though he had the team in the 2019 tourney as a 6 seed. Basketball isn't something to pass the time between football and spring football, like it is for most of our fans (present company excluded obviously). And they have people inside the administration who understand the sport because it's important to them.

I hear ya, same; but I've had to keep reminding ppl as I've mentioned this often among my fam, that after last season's not being to attend AT ALL, I want to see some live hoops action, albeit the level of play devolved into being about teachable moments for "what not to do" as we discuss things together; thank goodness enough good happens for my young impressionable ballers to still enjoy it. It's become very, very tough for someone such as myself who prefers to watch disciplined, rebound-and-play-tough D team-ball. 🤨

Like Tim or not, you are 100% correct.  Tim make it cool to be a Nebraska Basketball fan and no other coach in the past 30 years you can say that about.  One of my favorite lines from Tim was if the person behind you tells you to sit down, you just tell them Tim said I don't have to.  I will also forever be grateful for No Sit Sunday as one the best sporting events I have ever been to.

I had a rat terrier, Monte, who developed diabetes and it took his sight, but many dogs can compensate and he had a happy, full life. He was a champion fetcher, would chase a ball as long as you would throw it, until his tongue was hanging to the ground. After the blindness, we got him a ball with a jingle bell in it and he went right on fetching. Despite adversity, he had determination and fight in him...he also knew how to stop the perimeter 3 and take timeouts when the other team got on a run...so, had we not lost Monte to cancer I think he would be a viable candidate.

Questions abound with this program. Does any coach on the staff give two shits how the team performs? Do any players care about Nebraska fans who have given their hearts and souls for decades hoping that someday this program would make them proud?  Doubtful.  I don't think any of them want to be asked....

There is no way Chris Mack comes here. He's messed around with trying to coach at a football school and failed. He won't do it again. I could honestly see him hanging it up for awhile, if not forever, to focus on being a dad to his three kids.

Mack, Pitino: too much baggage, they'd only take the job for the paycheck, not because they want to be here Capel, Crean, Amaker: mediocre record in P5 jobs. Boals, Gates, Brown: "hot names" now, but lack the track record to merit the job. I'd look for someone with sustained excellence as a head coach, 5-6 years at least. Porter Moser: Yes, except he's not leaving OU after one year.   None of the above.   I've mentioned this on other threads, but Steve Pikiell at Rutgers had the resume I'd look for: consistent winner at Stony Brook, but he never made the big splash in the NCAA so he was never the "hot name." I'd scour the Summit, MVC, MWC and other leagues in the midwest for someone with a similar profile. Ben Jacobson at Northern Iowa is interesting, although his teams tend to be slow, grind it out types. Might work in the Big Ten, though.

Sure, they want the paycheck, but they also are looking for opportunity. That's why Dana Altman went to Oregon: he wanted to get to a Final Four (which he did). Neither Mack nor Pitino sees DONU as an opportunity, and Slick Rick is 70.

If we were going to throw a pile of money at a big name, i'd throw it at Altman. He might want to get back closer to family.
