If you're not someone who is a bracketmatrix contributor, you're not really worth reading.

That was me being factious. The way NU is perceived appears perplexing, but I do agree with C.T. that we're solidly in the field. But need to beat Michigan and keep performing well to get a good seed in the Big Dance.

We won 18 total home games the first 3 years Hoiberg was here.
What a treat this season has been.

Plus, recent Big Ten top 25 programs are down, i.e. Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Maryland and Iowa.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Northwestern and Minnesota are also having good years.

The non-con boosted players' confidence and added to the buy-in. Success in conference pushed it even further. We're playing great right now, and I'm not sure we would have if we'd taken 4-5 losses in non-con. We'll see how far we can go in the NCAA, but I think we're close to a lock right now and would need a complete collapse to not make it.

The other big factor is our schedule.
We had a cupcake non con for the most part and avoided playing Purdue, Sparty and Illinois twice.
KenPom has us ranked 69th in strength of schedule which is 13th in the Big Ten.
Honestly, we probably had the easiest Big Ten schedule in terms of matchups.

I'm just glad we took advantage of it!

This and avoiding injuries possibly would have gotten us 20 last year

Not surprising, but we’ve been playing really good ball lately.

The question now is would you rather be 8/9 or a 10 seed ?
I think I would rather be a 10 seed since we would be playing a 2 seed instead of 1 in the second round.
Or, we could play a 15 seed due to the number of 15 vs. 2 seed upsets in recent years.

Chuck Taylor got a reaction from Cornbread21 in Big Ten Basketball Coaches: Where do We Stand?
Fred looks like a million bucks at this very moment, but is the current success sustainable? That has to be proven. I don't think you can apply his Iowa State success to what he's done here, because that wasn't worth much his first three years here.
    Here are my tiers:

Coaches who have sustained high-level programs, in no particular order:
    Painter
    Underwood
McCaffery (I had to force my fingers to type that)
    Izzo
    Gard
    Pikell

    Solid job:
    Collins

    Down year, but past success:
    Willard

Big turnarounds after looking like complete flops:
    Fred
    Johnson at Minnesota

    Flops:
    Howard
    Woodson

    Too soon to tell:
    Rhoades
    Ohio State's new guy

We’re in the tournament either way IMO. I am pulling for us to pass then and have one less hurdle for another (albeit secondary) objective which is getting a conference championship and auto bid. This team can win three games….we do not need Wisconsin for quad 1 unless the sky falls IMO.

I realize Nebraska was 4th and snubbed before. This isn’t about that. This is about we’re already in so might as well go for a trophy.
