  1. 1. Zags basically played 7 guys last night, Hunter was the 8th. They HAVE to win these big noncon games if they want a 1 seed. Hunter will be getting a lot of time as the season goes on, but Few isn't trying to get guys experience now. Just the opposite of what we're doing in playing buy games early to get some minutes for guys before the bench tightens in conference play. Their next game is Alcorn State, probably will get 15-20 minutes in that one. 2. He's not transferring here.
  2. It could get ugly for them. One of our BIG problems under FH has been rebuilding every year. We're obviously struggling to put the pieces together, but C---- has it worse than we do. They're playing 5 freshmen, 2 transfers and two guys in their second year. We may be 283rd in the country in 3-point shooting, but they're 298th. None of their freshman and sophomores has ever played in road game with a crowd, and PBA will be full. I'm guessing we'll be favored by 5 or 6 points.
  3. I know everyone's unhappy with the loss, but it seems like people are too eager to label certain players as selfish, me-first or whatever. This is the third straight year we've put together a team with a lot of roster turnover (we're 8th in returning minutes in the BIG), and it only makes sense that there would be chemistry issues at the outset.
  4. 1. Guys come here because they see there's an opportunity to play a lot, not because they want to build a winning culture. Fans eat up all of their "we can do great things here!" quotes when they commit, but it's all talk. They mostly see a chance to get on the floor. 2. It's the first game, so that can change. It didn't so much the last 2 years, but every group is different. 3. I'd expect a big bounceback Friday. My biggest takeaway from last night: I think we have a chance to be a bubble team, and last night was a bad, bad loss. It's early for quad talk, but that probably was a Q4 loss. We're going to have to beat Auburn to get any juice out of the noncon.
  5. I think it's a problem that everyone who covers the Huskers locally is an NU grad. Not a lot of objectivity, and they all think they know how to "fix" things. I'd be more interested in a view from someone who wasn't from this area, but it seems like the reporters are supposed to be cheerleaders ... until they're not.
  6. Huuuuuuge pickup. The loss of Dalano would have doomed this team to .500 or lower without Verge.
  7. It's safe to say that we'll be dancing if we have two players taken, but I don't think it's safe to say.
  8. I think the media is ranking Wisky (roster losses, bad culture) and Iowa (roster losses, idiot coach) too high. They're also rating NW too low, Cats have the second most returning minutes behind Purdue and an easy noncon to build momentum. They were young last year and lost a lot of close games. I think we could finish as high as 7th. if Indiana doesn't adjust well to a new coach and Rutgers' offense is more anemic than usual.
  9. I've got us around 18-13 with 9-11 in the BIG. Our weak non-con gives us a chance to get off to a good start, and the league's definitely down from last year. I'd be very disappointed if we're not at least on the bubble.
  10. Bart Torvik's preseason ratings have us at 66, about the same place. Katz has us 11th in the BIG, Torvik has us 12th.
  11. Derrick "grew" an inch, 6-9 sounds better than 6-8 for a Big Ten center.
  12. My thoughts as well. We might have missed on this round of local talent, but Fred has established that we're after them. We've missed guys in the past because we just didn't show enough interest. Good things ahead!
  13. Now that we have a competitive team, I'm expecting all road games.
  14. Interesting to think about the game if they'd used a box, instead of a peach basket. Even weirder bounces off the rim, for one thing.
  15. I'm glad we're giving the option. It's a mistake to go to all digital because it will cause some oldtimers to just give up on season tickets, and it will lower sales. I'll repeat my horror story from the NCAA volleyball tournament in the spring: Ticketmaster went to a new technology so your bar code changes every few seconds. Only way to use it was to put it in your digital wallet, rather than take a screenshot. It didn't work on some older phones, so there was a line of people standing to the side trying to get it to work. Like everything else, they roll out a new technology before it works well, and seniors just opt out. Look how many seniors still have cable because they don't want to mess with streaming. The idea of holding onto tickets isn't a big factor to young people. They keep their selfies from the game.
  16. I agree, Husker hoops fans have been kicked in the teeth enough times to not let the last two years get them down. Plus, the future is VERY bright. But Covid has changed the formula, along with more viewing options. A lot of people don't want to tie up their money if they think we're going to be canceling games again. Others (mostly older fans) may have decided they didn't mind watching from home, instead of going out into the cold. I still think we'll have great crowds, but I don't expect season ticket sales to be what they were.
  17. Coach K and Roy Williams are gone and Kansas is in limboland with realignment, so those bluebloods aren't what they used to be. Bennett has a national title is generally regarded as one of the top 5 coaches in college basketball. I'd say most kids would consider Va a top-level offer.
  18. If I ever write a screenplay for a Western, the hero will be named Chance Westry.
  19. A friend text me about it in the morning, but then I couldn't find anything about it. It's almost like the AD is a big, bloated bureaucracy that can't get out of its own way.
