I watched him and thought he was limited. Pretty slow footed. On the other hand, his offensive efficiency is elite. Of his final 4, I think he'd be the best fit at Mich State (top 10 defense, fills a void), but that's probably his 4th choice.

Isn't his MSU visit this weekend? Odd timing for announcement, seems to rule out Sparty.

My only concern is that next year's portal won't have Covid seniors. So teams will be plugging holes more with underclassmen than they have been. Still plenty of transfers, but I think this will make it tougher to rebuild quickly. No 5th year players, and the seniors you bring in won't have a bonus year. Filling 6 holes next year isn't ideal, but I'm sure we can find a way.

Nothing to base it on, but it feels like guys have had time to weigh their current team's offers and now they're hitting the portal for $. For example, 2 Arizona starters announced today, so they're not leaving for playing time.

I wonder if they won't go to the NBA for their next coach. Very few college coaches have the stature to satisfy Kentucky fans, and the ones that do might not want to put up with the fan base's expectations.

For all the hubbub about the portal, the list of players available isn't that overwhelming. A lot of nice pieces to fill in a roster, but I don't recognize half of the guys in the top 25. Storr is really the only "wow!" departure from the Big Ten on the list.

I LOVE college basketball and have watched a few NIT games. Indiana State is expecially fun to watch. Seton Hall reminds me of Rutgers, physical and not that skilled. Both from Joisey.

A LOT of guys go into the portal and don't get an offer from anyone. (If you leave Detroit Mercy for more playing time, where do you go?) In addition, a lot of coaches oversign on recruits, and guys get bumped to make room. They move down. It's not a zero sum game. Or maybe it is a zero sum game. I can never get that right.

Couple of points on the portal: 1. The vast majority are moving down, not up, and I'd guess most of them are happy with their increased playing time. They might be less happy if they see the team they left had an injury or suspension that would have meant more playing time if they had stayed, but generally they'd be moving to a situation where they were wanted. 2. The portal has put a head count on transfers and makes it seem like it's exploding now, but teams were losing a couple of players a year before NIL.

I agree. I just don't think he was lured away by bags of money, because he wouldn't appear that impressive to a program that had bags of money. His departure is more likely due to displeasure over his role next year or some other factor.

JLaw is 431 is Torvik portal rankings. You can argue that's way too low, but it makes it pretty clear that he didn't get a money bag thrown at him. He's leaving because either he wants to play closer to home or he doesn't see his role expanding with the players we're recruiting. He's very valuable to us, but he's not a very shiny new toy to other programs.

Interesting that Rutgers is losing guys with that great recruiting class they have coming in. Maybe they spent all their NIL on incoming freshmen.

They actually outperformed their seeds. SDSU was a 5, shouldn't have made it to the SS. Utah State was an 8, won one game. Other seeds were 10, 10 , 11, 11 and lost first round.

I'm with you. The roster chaos has really gotten to me. If we'd gone 10-23 this year and Fred got fired, I'm not sure I could handle another rebuild. Might have just put the burner on low and watched casually.
