It will be interesting to see how the minutes are distributed this season. The first 8 on the list will average double figure minutes (guessing 20-32 mpg). If Rice continues to surprise, he could as well.

Ten years ago today, a lot of people, including myself, lost a really good friend.  It was someone I'd known for close to 40 years as he grew up a few miles away.  I didn't go to the same high school, but I was in the same 4-H club, worked some of the same jobs in the summer, was on the same high school team for a year, took a whole bunch of classes with him in college, and got to hang around him a decent amount.  He had the rare ability to make sitting through the dullest things like a Thermodynamics class entertaining.  I never heard anyone speak a bad word of him, except that maybe his feet were too big and he didn't cut his fingernails down enough.

He was also the stepfather of Josiah Allick and his siblings.  Josiah switched his jersey number to 53 this year, in honor of him, because that was his football jersey number.  I don't know Josiah, but I hope he has a huge season this year.  Go Big Red.

Should have been fired with cause and forfeited the remainder of what was owed him on his contract. But somehow this colossal prick thinks he has been wronged.

Not a game moment, but when Isaac Copeland transferred to Nebraska is up there for me. One of my favorite players as well.

I'm unsure how it can be more physical then it is now.  I simply believe they are taking the awesome athleticism away from the game and are replacing it with physicality.

I have no idea how the idea we got lucky last year exists. We lost two starters, our best player missed 5 games, our true center missed tons of time, and Sam missed time. Guys who shot the 3 well most of their careers had off years (CJ and Bando). One of our prized recruits redshirted.

Seems to me we got VERY unlucky and we still got to .500.

Also in my dreams Lloyd wins the PG spot and is a poor man’s Jalen Pickett with a little more size. I agree with those who say he could be the difference.

I think the path each of those guys took played a big part in the players they became.

Griesel's evolution as a player probably doesn't happen at a higher level where he got to play right away as a hustle guy 3/4, then mid-career moved into a point guard role, then after three years developed into a really effective player as a senior that earned him the opportunity to make the leap to a high-major conference.

Similarly, I think the freedom Scheierman had early in his career playing against Summit League defenses as a primary initiator allowed him to develop into the dynamic player he became by the end of his time there. I know Matt thinks Creighton messed up by not running everything through him as the point guard, but he's just not dynamic enough physically to consistently create with the ball in his hands in the Big East like he did at the Summit level, though he eventually found a beter balance as the season went on between his on- and off-ball play. There was definitely a big adjustment period for him though.

Like Griesel, Tonje and especially Allick were both late bloomers in high school (Griesel was good early then exploded at the end like Tonje, whereas Allick played mostly JV his junior year). Tonje was always a shooter and a bouncy straight-line athlete, but his offensive game really expanded as a senior. Lateral quickness and ball-handling against athleticism were concerns, though. At CSU, John didn't play much as a freshman and wasn't particularly good when he did get a larger role as a sophomore. He broke through a bit as a junior and was their second-best player this past season as a senior. But he has one season out of four as a double-digit scorer in the Mountain West. Does he stick around for four years to become that if Nebraska takes him out of high school?

Wrightsell didn't look anything like a high-major player his first two years at CSF, but a breakout year has earned him this opportunity to test himself in the SEC.

It's also worth noting that Griesel and Scheierman are the only ones on that list we've actually seen play a season at the high-major level to this point.

I think the conversation is far more nuanced than seeing guys have success elsewhere and saying Nebraska should have recruited them out of high school.

Makes sense as he was simply buried on the depth chart with all the guys we brought in.  Not much playing time behind Reink, Keita, Allick and Gary considering everyone but Keita could conceivably play the 4 or 5.  He didn't develop into the guy we thought he would out of HS and he likely won't on the bench.  Gives us a shot at taking a project, a freshman, or in the Grant Nelson lottery. Probably the best for us both.

According to KenPom Mast has never fouled out in college.  In fact he's only had three games where he's been called for more than three fouls.

So quick follow up question.  Other then the shot clock in Class A, what are the HS rule changes in the last 10 to 15 years?  I contend there haven't been significant rule changes; rather, the interpretation of the rules is the significant change.

If so, reevaluate and start enforcing that contact is a foul, anywhere on the court, and the player who initiated the contact receives the call.  Once the initial shock and awe is absorbed by coaches and players, the game will be cleaner, faster with much more scoring.

Sam H….I mean wow.  This kid is right up there with any story on the team right now.  Redshirt FR, walk on, having the guts to play for your dad, 6’…and just stepping in on a struggling, injury riddled team of misfits. Playing with no fear in major minutes to help the team to some improbable wins.  Young man is legit !!

I think this comment will get laughed at pretty hard but so be it.

Sam Hoiberg is arguably the most important player in this run of us playing well these last few games. Im not going to criticize anyone else - but when you replace a player in the rotation with someone who doesn’t need shots, reverses the ball without an ounce of hesitation, makes all the correct drives, flies around on defense, makes true hustle plays… it opens up everything else for the guys who have scoring skills like KT and DW.
