The quote goes back to the 80's, I think. Xavier was in the NCAA tournament that Lincoln was hosting. Can any veterans on the board back me up on this?
The year was 1988 when Xavier played Kansas in the first round.

The battle for William Kyle III is down to us and Wake Forest. Can we please beat out Wake Forest for an in-state guy this time around? #Nebrasketball

If the goal is to improve, then you need to list him. we don’t have the high school class to replace the guys that we lost. So we need to add more from the portal.
I agree with your last statement and I think we're in the process of trying to do just that.

4 scholarships to fill.
And I'd take Rice and Tominaga over Griffiths
Tominaga shouldn't be listed as he is out of eligibility, whereas Rice made a choice and I wish him the best of luck at PSU.
As for Rice over Griffiths, I have to disagree there as GG's ceiling is a lot higher than ER's IMO. He has a better overall skill set, can defend multiple positions and has better length. He was pretty impressive at times in our game at home against Rutgers, especially when he was matched up with Gary. Blocked Gary's shot twice when he tried to take him to the bucket, rebounded over Williams down low and drew a foul and scored over a taller defender taking the ball to the basket making a difficult finish look easy. I think we really got a good one.

Nebraska hosted Rutgers on March 3 and, at times, tested Gavin Griffiths.

The 6-foot-8, 193-pound true freshman held his own and finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks off the bench.
The #Huskers coaches liked what they saw and landed him from the transfer portal. pic.twitter.com/tg82DuN1Ho -

How many players are on the court at once... 5.
How many are in Freddy's rotation by season's end.... 7.
So, it boils down to who can NU get that fills those 7 spots BEST!
Not to nitpick but the rotation was 8 at the end of the year and I'd argue if Ulis would have been available it would have been 9. Depending on who we land, I would anticipate being able to go 9 deep next season, maybe 10. At least that's what I hope we will be capable of.

I'm not excited about him either. No range and a 48% free throw shooter last year. He would be okay coming off the bench if Mast comes back
I think you are talking about different gophers.

Battle and Bouie pouting and refusing to congratulate keisei after he wins it. Go figure
To be fair, Buie congratulated KT after his first round and Battle did the same after KT beat him in the second. Having said this, I'm guessing they're not best buds.

Yes. Now clean up the game. Fouls should be fouls, especially at this level. The low scoring games this year cannot be credited to good offense or defense. Rather it was due to thuggery basketball, that again, has no place in this beautiful game.
It used to be the higher level you went the more physical the game became. Now it is essentially the opposite.

This one makes me wonder if Mast has decided to go play professionally. We’ll need post depth regardless.
Agreed. After watching his highlights, I don't think he is someone that will be looking to share minutes 50/50 but who knows. He possesses the same skill set that Mast has (not sure on his passing skills) and is much more athletic. It would be nice to get him to play the 5 and Kyle to play the 4. And another big to rotate with them.

Less than 48 hours after hosting Fred Hoiberg on an in-home visit, North Dakota State transfer big man Andrew Morgan will visit #Nebrasketball on Wednesday evening.
— Robin Washut (@RobinWashut) April 3, 2024
A decision will then follow in the coming days.

Good to hear from you Hugh ! Sounds like we were both there ( I referenced this one in mine). Almost positive it would have been the same season. Do you remember Andre blowing a few dunks at the end ? Pretty sure that year the first round Big 8 post season game was at home vs Colorado and JoJo Hunter went off for 37 or so and upset us.
I don't recall the missed dunks but I don't recall much of the game action. The atmosphere was what stood out to me and being really close to the action. Andre was certainly a dude.

If memory serves, my first game in person was during the 80-81 season. We were playing Oklahoma St. and their star player was Leroy Combs who was a sophomore. I was a sophomore in high school and I believe I was there with my brother and his wife. At the start of the game we were seated on the planks at the top of the arena behind one of the baskets. I believe just before opening tip we spotted someone we knew in the student section below us and we were able to sneak in and joined them under the hoop. Andre Smith was a senior, Jack Moore a junior and Greg Downing a soph. The atmosphere was crazy and NU came out on top. It was the largest attendance for a NU game ever, 15038 and I was there.

Hawkins carries the ball worse than almost anyone I've seen in basketball. Makes it a tad easier to get by guys.

This kind of mentality is just natural with fans in a football-first school I think. Making fun of basketball is acceptable because it's not football.
And this is why this site was started and why we are all here.

In the moment I thought Mast should have taken the shot, but watching this he made the right decision as Shannon was probably going to block it. As to the non-call...Even @RaphealDavis3 said on BTN's post-game show that it was a foul. Unfortunate, yet predictable. https://t.co/i5VMfce2Qf

Shields was great but was not a true basketball player. He lacked explosiveness!
By this logic, Larry Bird was not a true basketball player either. Shields turned out to be a better player than most fans thought he would be. Underrated in my opinion.

Yep, I was there. Great atmosphere and some pretty good basketball. I hope Lincoln is able to host again in the near future.
