I don’t plan on seeing Nebraska win a NCAA tournament in my lifetime and I’m in my 30’s.
So I would say Tim Miles has a much better shot.

And don’t cut this one loose early. Granted, Hoiberg likely will handle it better than Frost would have but Hoiberg needs to go down with the ship.
I’m not convinced he gets fired this year though. Even with how bad it’s going to be. I just don’t have faith that Trev will be eager to go thru another coaching change.

When you shoot 20 something percent from the field that’s going to inflate your offensive boards a bit.
Granted, this is my first game watching but Sam sure doesn’t look like a PG to me. I think he’s a solid basketball player but generally you don’t want your PG to have to stare at his dribble half the time. Poor kid seems out of possession…and on top of that I’m not so sure his backup his suited for PG.

Imagine being a coach…a highly paid one at that…that continues to claim goggles can shoot the ball.

Fire all of them after this game.
Let John Cook coach the rest of the season

The good news is Lat can hit 86/100 from 3 on the practice court with nobody guarding him.

On top of that he may be the worst dribbler in college basketball and a D+ defender at best.

I've bit my lip on this long enough. While both coaches have poor win loss records what is going on is NOT THE SAME.
Yes the football team finished with a 3-9 record but they where in every game. They played hard every game having what was arguably the hardest schedule.
The football team when SF took over was a mess. Football can't be be fixed 1, 2, 3, or 4 players. I can't believe I have to explain this but good football teams are built up front. That takes 4+ years.
A good coach can turn around a basketball team in 2-3 years with a couple of good players. In TM case he was able to do so with a couple of above average players. When Tim had talent his teams where competitive, getting to NCAA once and very close a second time. This team is loaded with high level talent. This is as much talent as I've seen since the Nee years. More importantly to me is that the players on this team do not play well together. They play with low energy/effort/passion. They are fundamentally bad at so many things it would be hard to find what to work on first(more on this below). This team is such a mess that I don't see a way forward. I desperately want to be wrong. I don't want to blow this up and start over again.
I dread going to games. I never felt this way with our last 3 coaches, even during Docs last season.
My solution, and this is mostly cathartic, would be to:
1. shut down the 3 point shooting to under 10/game.
2. play nothing but man-to-man defense. This exposes guys who aren't giving effort.
3. spend the majority of practice, boxing out and rebounding. If the opponent has more than +5 rebounding, running lines in practice. This spreads accountability.
4. Minimum of 4 passes once they cross half court before a shot is taken.
5. Set hard screens and open up lanes for getting inside.
6. No forcing contested shots. If the shot isn't there pass it back outside and reset. I don't care if we get shot clock violations. It's better than a crappy shot and fast break opportunity.
7. MOTION MOTION MOTION. No one is standing still out by the 3 pt line. Everybody is moving all the time. Constant cutting to the basket.
I don't care if these leads to ugly games in the 40's. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Now with all that said none of this will happen. We've all been through this before and we know how it will end.

I apologize for posting about football in this thread. I did so as a response. There are a few posters that like to slip it in when talking about basketball as a dig.
It's not in my nature to let it slide. My recommendation would be to have a separate football only forum or thread. Just implement some rule that football can only be discussed in that forum/thread. Those users can then go there and make all the comparisons between football and basketball that they want.

Well, Trev may have a pretty easy out if what I’m hearing is correct. He may be able to avoid a large buyout if that’s that path he chooses.

I could be wrong but I doubt Trev will want to be firing a football and basketball coach next year even with Frosts reduced buyout.
Football will always come first. He probably is in no rush to fix a historically bad basketball program when he will likely be looking for a FB coach next year.
