  1. 2 bigs, 1 that’s a stretchier 4 with some bounce and another who’s more traditional to play opposing 5s.

Then just 2 guys we think will have a chance to actually be here next year regardless of position.  Suspect these two need to be from towns within X miles of Lincoln.

At some point whatever we call what the current portal is will get some restrictions put on it(hopefully sooner than later imo) and just adding 10 new players each year is gonna be tougher than it is now.  Plus this is the last round of covid seniors so the portal should shrink next year regardless

Rutgers isn't too upset over losing GG... It could probably be said that they don't want him here though.

    GG Thread

ID still love to land him as a bench player this year and as a starter next year. I don’t think whatever the Rutgers system was last year did him any favors.  Feels like their players had to feel the same way too with the transfers they had on top of what they are bringing in they might of returned the best team in the B10 next year.

How did Derrick Walker fit into the offense?

Totally different skill sets, Payne is a primary low block player while Walker excelled at being out on the perimeter being the pivot point of the offense.

I could be totally wrong on how I see Payne but many of the comments you see from gopher fans prior to him entering the transfer portal was how poor of passer he was out of double teams.  To me that doesn’t lend itself to being the pivot point of our offense.

I want to be clear I am not saying he isn't athletic. I think he's a better athlete than Reink, but not as good of a player. But being a better "athlete" than Reink isn't saying a whole lot, especially with his bum knee.

I really think we need a Payne/Kyle to go along with these two.

I’m with you ideally Morgan is the first big off the bench. Playing 20-25 minutes a game. Reink is def more skilled and probably a better shooter, Morgan is a better athlete and hopefully a better rebounder/post defender.

im all in on Kyle with the rest of you but I really struggle to see how Payne would fit into our offense

I'll take as many athletic 6'-8" wing players as NU can muster, even that goggled kid from Rutgers would be a great get for NU since he fits into the mold of Husker lore. If he's not 'N' then I'll be very disappointed, tbh.

When Rutgers came to Lincoln he was the one guy who you thought “huh he can put up some points” needs to find a weight room but had plenty of length to be a problem in our defense.  I to am hopeful we can sell him on a big roll off the bench this year and a chance to start next year.

Kyle, Morgan, and Omaha would be a stretch.  But they do need three more interior players, even if one is a guy you can only expect an occasional 10 minutes a game from.

Doesn’t Omaha profile as a 3 just as much as he does a 4? I think there would be minutes for all of them it’s just Kyle has quite the list of suitors

    247 sports portal rankings:

    1. Johnell Davis (Fla Atl)

    2. AJ Storr

    3. Tucker Devries

    27. Saint Thomas

    28. Tarris Reed

    30. Omaha Biliew

    36. Frankie Fidler

    37. Tony Perkins

Morgan was not in the top 75 (so he must be pretty good giving how these ratings usually work out)

Belmont had 2 in the top 20

Morgan was in the 40s this morning ON3 and fidler was in the 20s.  Fidler and Morgan both have “crystal ball” or whatever the ON3 version is to Nebraska for what that’s worth

I guess I see Kyle and Payne in the same light. Athletic big that can defend. Very similar skill set/play style. Either works for me.

I think Kyle can play the 4 defensively and offensively as long as our 5 can shoot.  I have zero faith in Payne at the 4 defensively and well I don’t think much of his offensive game either lol.  Maybe I’m viewing Kyle incorrectly though.

It'll be interesting how Fred manages that. I still think they need that athletic big, see Payne or Kyle. And they still should take one.

I might be in the minority but I don’t think we want Payne. Doesn’t fit our system at all, can’t shoot from the field or FT line and doesn’t have post moves aside from being really big and athletic. Does that change with a different coaching staff? Maybe but I wouldn’t bank on it

give me Morgan, Kyle, and a freshman or sophomore big then we got our work cut out for us at the guard position yet

Can you talk dollars elsewhere, prior to entering the portal?  Isn't tampering a thing?

I do not believe tampering is a thing. No way to police it.  What id be more interested in is how many players never receive whatever NIL they were promised

Really, Dain Dainja is leaving a team that played him down the stretch significant minutes.... that's weird. It's free agency, I suppose....

I’d be kinda shocked if he lands on a more prominent team than Illinois but then again what do I know.

This makes him sound a lot more like a clone of Diop. Not sure we need another project for next year.

Just reading through ISU Fans comments and watching Diop this year I think I’d rather have Diop. He’s 3 inches taller, I don’t feel there’s any concerns about his hands or his shooting for a 5 guy.  It’s just about getting him in the weight room and more experience.  The thing about Omaha is that he’s unlikely to start for us IMO So why come be the 3rd or 4th guy off our bench when it sounds like the main thing he needs is on court time.  He should transfer down for atleast a year IMO

Could be something, or could be nothing. But all of the staff members, Howard, loesner, Tommy, and Luca, have gotten a follow from Bryce Pope recently.  (highlights linked below). I like the idea of the fit, but we'll see. Might be something to pay attention to.

This guys floater/pull up in the high paint game may be more impressive than his 73 made 3s last year.  Not sure if athletically he helps us get quicker on defense though
