If Miles was going to be retained, Moos would have said so in his announcement 45 minutes after our B1G tourney loss to Wisconsin.

Good news - we are in!  Splurged on $20 club level seats ?.  I will say it wasn't a seamless process.  I had to go through the order process about a dozen time as I kept getting error messages when trying to pay...system kept saying my transaction had timed out, which it hadn't based on the 15 minute countdown.  So, I probably have unknowingly purchased 24 tickets so I'll have many extra for HHC friends!

With my son being on spring break, we are also packing for multiple days in the hopes of a 2nd home game or a trip down to Fort Worth!  GBR!

Trying to grab tickets but looks like the site is possibly struggling with demand or all the scalpers trying to scoop them up!!!

nobody thinks that... unless moos just flat out isn't doing his job.

but it makes no sense to let miles coach the NIT if there's no chance of him coming back. that'd mean he could potentially remain coach for another 23 days if we make the NIT final.

like i said earlier, we need to start recruiting asap for next year asap if we want any chance of being competitive.

Barry Collier will be in Lincoln. Bill Moos will be in Lincoln.

Coincidence? Or NU's next basketball coach?

But they'll have to do the interview away from PBA. Moos won't be there, of course.

A long time ago, I used to watch every game and soak up every word the talking heads said, every point, all the analysis, all their expert opinions, all their insider insights, all their unnamed sources. Then the play, the game, the season, the career would happen and even if that talking head knew all the right people, all the right tactical and strategic details, even if they were the best informed SOB (scholar of basketball) they had (charitably) a 25% chance of being right.

So I now understand that "knowing" and "actually happening" are not the same thing. If you see someone on this board with 10,000 posts (or HHC in their screen name) understand that we have listened to 20,000 posts from guys who "know a guy" or "saw the next coach at Valentino's" or "have the inside dirt"
Charitably, <5% of those have been right, so it's not personal. If you KNOW and want to share, great, when your prediction comes to pass, you will be vindicated  but if you want to stifle disagreement by citing your unnamed sources then the bulletin board world isn't your best platform and you should start a blog.

At least no one has heard that we are lining up the band and have a plane ready to take us to Dayton.  That doomed us last year.  Maybe this year we’ve got a legit shot!?

What amazes me is how many people have very strong opinions about places they've never even visited.

    New State Tourism Slogan:
Nebraska. Honestly, it's not for everyone. Especially Bill Walton. And we like it that way.

Kinda long, I admit. But it has a nice ring to it.

I, for one, am a slightly keep Miles guy.  But, if Moos makes a home run hire (Hoiberg, Sampson, etc), I will be more than happy.  It also considers what the "end of the season"  means to people.  Does it mean, end of the regular season, or the end of the postseason?  I feel the regular season.  Why keep Miles, and especially the assistant coaches and their family in limbo because of wording?

If our options were hypothetically down to Collins and a mid-major, I sure hope Miles invites Moos over for dinner and several drinks and they agree on a long term extension for Miles.

Nebrasketball1979 reacted to Husker Hoops Penitent in I recollect it took Mizzou's legend Norm Stewart years to establish...
an excellent program. I think eight years before he won a title. This is not to suggest that they are equivalents, but Stewart did eventually do great things at MU, who was rewarded for their patience! That said, I think Miles has intangibles that are worth making a commitment to. He is funny, smart and very personable. I have followed NU for over four decades and I think if he is given the resources others in the A.D. are (including a long-term contract so others can't frighten potential recruits) he might turn NU into a very successful program. I know this is one man's opinion based largely on a feeling, nevertheless I think starting over isn't the answer. Perhaps recognizing his honesty and verve (the media love him) are reasons to consider bucking a national trend which sees A.D.s throw away coaches based on the arbitrary standard (must turn around program in five-six years, on average) should be reevaluated? The point being, not every program is the same, and therefore "fixable" in the same amount of time. He has shown the ability to recruit interesting athletes. If he improves a bit in that area he is close to doing very good things. Think about some of the statistical bad luck this year- yes I know some fault rests with him- but not all of it. These are statistical anomalies which will reverse, just as the Red Sox "bad luck" did. Statistics are not fickle people. The wheel does spin around. Anyway, my humble opinion is just that, and should Moos lure someone who is a great fit for the program, say Hoiberg, I would be equally thrilled. Go NU!

Here's what I keep coming back to. Moos could have easily prevented ALL of this kerfluffle by releasing a statement post-Iowa, pre-Big Ten Tourney and said "Wow, what a great comeback. We have positive momentum heading into post-season play and we have the draw to make a run. Regardless of what post-season tournaments we end up in, I'll wait until our season is officially complete before making a decision on Tim's status as a head coach."

Maybe I'm naive, but doesn't that cover all bases from 0-1 against Rutgers to 5-0 NCAA bid?

We are 11th in the big ten in spending for basketball.  It takes the basketball team 8 months to get a display for their Adidas display for recruiting, while the football team can completely change class schedules.  I am not complaining about footbal, rather I want the same commitment to basketball.  Our administrative commitment has been the same as our finish in the conference.  They were also going to go cheap on the practice faculty until doners  were going to pull the funding when they saw the constitution plans.  Also PBA is a commitment from the city of Lincoln not the university.

The other thing I keep thinking about this morning -- local guys like Sip and Dirk are all in a tizzy about Andy Katz's statement on BTN that we should know our place and such. That's hogwash, they say. We can run a clean program AND have consistent success.

I agree with them there, but where we diverge is in the responsibility assigned to various parties in facilitating that. It would be a pretty big accomplishment for a coach to turn a historically mediocre program into a consistent winner, without breaking any rules, in 7 years when everyone is pulling together. But when you have an administration that time and time again gets in its own way, there HAS to be some personal reflection on that. Quite honestly, until this department decides to actually treat basketball as anything but an afterthought, it only proves Katz right. Putting up a pretty building doesn't mitigate the damage it inflicts on its own reputation every time it blunders -- and the blunders are as consistent as our record in the NCAA. If you don't take your own program seriously, you cannot expect the national media (or potential coaching candidates) to do so either.
