Webster's arrival really changes things. By playing this year Biggs has a chance to establish himself a little. If he waits and Webster turns out to be the player everyone thinks he can be then Biggs will be on an equal playing field with him. I thought he would shirt but I think he plays now.

    It's all a matter of perspective; here's a birds-eye view:
Nebraska fans suck....Most, if not all of them , that are in attendance on a Saturday afternoon football game at Memorial Stadium were wearing a blue, Jays shirt on Friday night cheering for the basketball team.

TheGov21 reacted to Norm Peterson in When is the last time we had a protypcial PF?
I'm not sure how we drifted off topic and started talking about the difference makers we haven't had at PF. The original question was when was the last time we had a prototypical PF at Nebraska. I guess you have to define that. Nebrasketball10 offers a pretty broad range of physical measurements. I think when most people think of a prototypical PF, though, they're not thinking of the 6-7, 215# pounder who might get you some good minutes at the spot. They're thinking of the beefy, athletic, tall guy who can clean the glass and either post up or square up facing the basket from mid-range.
I think Wes Wilkinson, his senior season, was one of the better power forwards we've had here in awhile. And while Steffon Bradford was certainly a good player, he was just a touch undersized at the PF spot and, therefore, in spite of the fact he gave you double figure scoring for his two seasons here, I think we'd be hard pressed to call him prototypical.
I think you could say Quincy Hankins-Cole had the prototypical body type of a PF, but we just didn't get a lot out of him in the year he was here. So productivity and having a prototypical PF body aren't necessarily the same thing. Still, you'd like to see us put a lineup out there where we have a 6-9, 240# athlete at PF who can not only clean the glass but also do some damage on the offensive end, both posting up and facing the basket. Y'know, a Karl Malone-type. That's a prototypical power forward. Hopefully Pitchford (and Agau?) can be that guy.

TheGov21 reacted to HB in Creighton preseason #15? Ha!
You're kidding, right? They did exactly what an 8 seed is supposed to do. Won the 8-9 game, and played well but lost to the 1 seed in a tough game. Doing nothing with it would have been losing the first game. I'm no Creighton fan, but that "nothing" of reaching the round of 32 was more than we have ever done.

I would definitely rather have David Rivers at the 4 than Tyrance. Rivers is not only taller but definitely more fit to play major minutes. If Tyrance does play this year it should be after most guys except for maybe the 2 frosh walk ons and maybe Kurkowski, but Kye is 6'10.

Yeah, I really don't get why there's so much animosity between these two programs. It seems really petty. I'm sure St. Louis University fans aren't being bashed for following Missouri football, or Marquette fans being ridiculed for watching Wisconsin football games, or New Jersey Institute of Technology fans being chastised for attending Rutgers football games. Maybe it's just me, I certainly could be wrong.

Agreed with all. Ubel is listed at 6' 10", I believe, and would be the tallest of all listed. The shortest two would be Thomas and Bradford (both probably around 6' 6"), but they PLAYED like a prototypical PF. I would call a prototypical power forward someone in the 6' 7" - 6' 10" range. Weight could range anywhere from 215 and athletic to 250 and built.
My point was/is, we've had plenty of prototypical PFs, just no difference makers at the position.

Creighton fans suck....Most, if not all of them , that are in attendance on a Sunday afternoon basketball game at the CLINK were wearing a red Husker shirt on Saturday cheering for the football team. Creighton fans are there for the social aspect of the game. But I do envy them for being able to have a cold one while watching a basketball game. It would be nice to have that option. Maybe we will since T.O. is out the door. Time to think in terms of what the new "normal" is when going to watch a sporting event. I'm not saying that you have to drink 6 drinks, but it is nice to relax with a drink and cheer on your team. Just my opinion.

TheGov21 reacted to Swan88 in Brandon Ubel press conference
The following are some scoring stats for Brandon Ubel from Huskers.com:
    1. Three point percentages: .524 (11 of 21) as a freshman; .250 (7 of 28) as a sophomore; and .250 (5 of 20) as a junior.
    2. Overall percentages: .411 (46 of 112) as a freshman; .516 (63 of 122) as a sophomore; and .517 (74 of 143) as a junior.
    3. Free throw percentages: .796 (39 of 49) as a freshman; .792 (61 of 77) as a sophomore, and .825 (47 of 57) as a junior.
Interestingly, (i) during his freshman year, Brandon shot a higher percentage from three than from shorter range, (ii) Brandon's free throw percentage has always been around the .800 mark, (iii) his exceptional three point percentage as a freshman dipped to a consistent .250 for the two subsequent years, and (iv) his overall percentages for the last two years are a full percentage point higher than his first year.

Think back to the press conference introducing Tim Miles as our new coach and what he said about students standing the whole game.
On the front ... have a big N in the middle with smaller letters reading Sta on one side of the N and dup! on the other.
    StaNd up!
On the back (it needs to be on the back) it would say:
    I Ain't Sittin'
Coach Miles told me I didn't have to.
OK, you design guys get to work.

How are you defining prototypical? Size? Because Drevo isn't what I would consider a prototypical PF...
Ubel is probably a few lbs shy, but not far off of prototypical. Hankins-Cole was about as prototypical PF as you get (in my eyes). As was Chris Balham, Alonzo Edwards, Shang Ping, Jeremy Barr, Kyle Marks (a little less so), Jim Ledsome, BJ Walker, John Turek, Wilson Thomas, Steffon Bradford, Andy Markowski...
The problem is that we haven't had any difference makers at the position for quite some time.
For the record, from the list above, Markowski and Bradford are the two that I would consider most prototypical (at least that we really got to see play much at all).

TheGov21 reacted to ajb5856 in Akoy Agau -> Louisville -> Georgetown
Heard a story regarding Agau. The info comes from a source with direct ties to the program and Coach Miles. I don't have any direct inside info, this was just a story told to me by someone who knows a person with ties. As they say, this is how rumors get started...but it's been slow, so what the heck. Without releasing every detail, bottom line is that Miles still believes that Akoy can be had and that he will eventually come around for Nebraska. Miles doesn't feel that Louisville and Pitino are a good fit for Akoy and that we still have a shot at him. Now, I don't know if this is anything earth shattering or if we should expect Miles to feel any other way. But it is the only info to be gained from the story that I was told other than the fact that Miles is still active in the pursuit and I think everybody is well aware of that fact.

TheGov21 reacted to Norm Peterson in Akoy Agau -> Louisville -> Georgetown
Y'know, what we've seen from Akoy it just suggests this is a kid who, in his heart, deep down, really wants to come to Nebraska and is hoping to find that reason or justification that makes it make more sense than taking an opportunity to put on a Louisville uni and play for a former NBA coach. In a word, he's conflicted. It's apparent that he has strongly considered Nebraska, has a relationship with Miles, and hasn't totally given up the idea of playing here. It might not happen in the end, but it wouldn't be a shock if he changed his commit. Nor would it be a shock if he didn't. You might say, as far as Louisville, he's a soft commit.

TheGov21 reacted to TheKamdyMan in Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
maybe you should do some research before saying anything. The reason most people for recruiting services dont know much about the guy is the fact that he backed up the nations #5 recruit last year at ND prep. This alone can prohibit a lot of people knowing who he even is because his minutes get limited due to playing behind a huge star. His team also featured offensive weapons in Xavier recruit Myles Davis, and Clemson recruit Adonis Filer so he didnt have any focus going his way. All 3 have graduated and Atewe will be one of the main focuses on the team this year.

TheGov21 reacted to Norm Peterson in Contrasting warm ups; something to watch for
I always watch warm ups when I get to the game early enough. And I mean the early warm ups. For one thing, just to entertain myself, I try to pick out the other team's starters by watching how they do in warm ups. (And you can generally figure it out or at least get the guys in the main rotation -- so, again, don't tell me you can't learn much by watching a short highlight video or a brief period of watching a guy play.)
Another thing I look at is how many of the other team's players are draining shots. And there seems to be a very strong correlation between the teams that come in here and beat us and how many of their players can stroke it.
I have to say that, generally over the last decade +/-, we have not looked particularly impressive as a team shooting the ball in warm ups compared to some of the better opponents we've faced. And, yeah, those shots in warm ups don't count. I realise this. But it does give you a window into the offensive firepower that each team possesses. And it gives you a pretty good indication of which opponents are going to be a tough out for us.
If the videos of our recruited commits and the players we appear to be after are any indication, this may be changing. I think there seems to be a pretty strong indication that Coach Miles is prioritizing guys who can shoot in his recruiting efforts. And that includes the bigs. Something to keep an eye on. Be watching our warm ups and keep an eye on how many of our kids can drain it.

Really just sounds like 2 scenarios.
    1) Agau is using us to get more perks, or
    2) Agau is legitimately drawn between both programs and may have committed to Louisville to mitigate his risk of drawing out the recruiting timeline.
