I don’t watch CU much, I despise them with everything I have and take great pleasure when they lose. I’ve been in an office with 70% Jay alums and trust me fellas, I want this game more than any other game and I know it’s all due to personal reasons. Donuts for the entire office are on the line. But the trash talking from the sweaters is unbearable at times. I’m always reminded they’ve won in the tournament we can’t ever seem to make.

IMHO, Baylor is having to shoulder the load offensively because Kaluma and Nembhard were athletic enough to drive to the rim and put pressure on the defense. Ashworth isn’t the same. If the outside shots aren’t falling they quickly show themselves as a one dimensional team.

Currently hitting 9.2 three pointers per game. If we keep up that pace, we’ll be at 285 for the regular season. Very doable. We’ve pretty consistent, I believe low has been eight made and high, 11.

Per above, Brice seemed to make the biggest impact offensively and Josiah the biggest impact defensively when I isolated their possessions and also didn't include possessions that had Diop or Jacobsen (to eliminate garbage time).  Not sure if I agree but it's interesting.

We have a squad with a bunch of good dudes, all coachable, all great teammates… who I’m not sure are playing great team basketball yet - on the offensive side anyways.

Was at the game tonight…. Lots of “get mine” ball. My biggest criticism of Hoiberg has always been role identification and role acceptance. It seems to be getting better, as a program, but this team isn’t sure about it yet. Which makes sense, lots of new pieces and toys, gotta figure out who is what.

But right now there’s a lot of quick 3’s with no reversals, or paint/post touches, and that ball isn’t exactly pinging around. I think getting KT back, and a really good KT, changes that. You’ll see more guys moving and screening to get him going and whatnot.

Defensively I like what I see as a team. I do hate how we automatically double and create a rotation when the ball gets in the post - recipe for disaster against a good passing/shooting team. And I also don’t like how we run guys off the 3pt line for the sake of running them off at times. We’ll run non-shooters, or guys who weren’t ready to shoot, off the line which gets us scrambling and in rotation. I understand that in a way it’s kinda what they want to do, because they believe in their rotations, but I’m not sure why you’d force it.

We need KT and Gary back soon to get figured out who’s gonna be what and what our rotation looks like.

Choppy, ugly game with how refs called it. Good to have complaints in a 27pt win. But you can’t overlook in victory what you wouldn’t in defeat.

It's sort of funny to me how people seem to be down a bit on Boogie. I saw a guy who passes like he knows where everyone is supposed to be on offense, was able to hit our bigs for easy buckets, and at least one Sam Griesel backdown on a smaller defender.

Hoiberg was *quite literally* the best player on the court yesterday. That won't be true very night, but he can absolutely play a big role at this level.

SH had a 3/4 length pass to CJ in traffic that would’ve given Matt Rhule a linden sized wood

I've listened to the Nick Bahe one - was super encouraged by his comments regarding seeing practice. In summary, he basically said he's been all around the country watching practices in preparation for games - and Hoiberg and staff are running as good of a practice as anyone else is. Super organized, high energy and intensity, everyone is engaged and all business. Said our practices are tough, physical, competitive, etc... That's good to hear. He also touched on the fact that he believes Hoiberg and co. have made a massive shift in culture and essentially last year was year one for the program, in a way. And it's clear the culture has carried over and is the main emphasis.

Just being honest.... everyone is so worried about our "point guard." That, to me, just seems like something for the sports media people to talk about. What even is a point guard anymore? Do they mean they're worried we don't have a lead guard who can create and score? I mean it's not 1992 anymore, no one walks the ball up the court holding a "1" up on their hand while dribbling stationary at half court and executes a set. It's no longer the situation where a "point guard" is this coach-on-the-floor guy with a buzz cut and doesn't shoot, but distributes the ball and whatnot.

Are they saying they're worried we don't have a lead, ball-screen manipulator? Are they saying we don't have a "get an outlet and fly down the court for a lay-up" guy? I'm just not sure what everyone is envisioning we need. Hoiberg's offense is a motion-based, 5-out, interchangeable offense that is more predicated on off-ball movement, and reading screens. It's not a dribble drive, spread 'em out, set one ball screen and see who can create, type of offense. What we're going to see is basically Mast stepping in the Walker role, distributing around the elbow/top of key into split and zoom actions.

The stats guys, the analytics guys, have a way of measuring luck.

Arnold Palmer once said something like "I've hit a lot of lucky shots in my day and the more I practice, the luckier I get."

Sam Hoiberg often finds himself at the right place at the right time because he has intuition for the game.

That's something you cannot teach or coach. It might appear like it's luck, but like Arnold Palmer, he's creating his own luck.

He's not basketball tall. He's not D1 athletic. But, for a guy who's neither tall nor athletic, he makes hustle plays in spades.

Knowing they're both walk-ons and minutes will be exceedingly limited for them regardless, I'd pick Sam for my hypothetical open spot in the rotation. We're not going to rely on either of them to shoulder a scoring load. But Sam has a demonstrated propensity to create that one opportunity that swings a close game in our favor.

I'd have to think if you need 10 minutes of someone on the court, then it's a no brainer of Hoiberg over Jacobsen because Sam will go out and make all the right plays on offense and defense.

If we're talking about an injury replacement at guard, it might boil down to who is injured because Cale has a lot more experience playing PG than Sam.

Is he Glynn Watson or is he Thomas Allen? Harder to spill ink about a guy until you see them go out there and prove it. He's a really good player with a lot of potential. He's also the guy who couldn't make a FT last year.

I don't know if this is our "best" roster... But it certainly seems to be, on paper anyways, our most "complete" roster.

Everyone should probably cool their jets a bit on Diop. Long ways to go if he's going to operate in our offense like how we seem to want to use our bigs. Right now, if he's in the game, you've gotta be in a different offense (i.e., like a 4 around opposite post).

I have made this point before somewhere on this board.

The problem is not the crowd per se.

The problem is the architecture of PBA.

Back in Devaney, it was basically one continuous plane from floor all the way up to the nosebleeds. The guy in the row farthest from the floor could see the entire audience arrayed below him all the way to the courtside seats.

At PBA, there are four layers: the lower bowl; the luxury box level; the 200 level; and the 300 level.

And here's why that's a problem: All those levels are structural barriers between the crowd and the game. When you're up in the 200s or 300s, you feel separated from the event. It's almost like you're watching it on TV or something. It's hard to get into the cheering thing when you feel like nobody is going to hear you except the crotchety geezer who's going to complain you're standing in his way.

At Devaney, I could stand up and exhort the rest of the crowd to stand by waiving my arms upwards, and half the crowd could see me. Now, the only people who would see me would be the people in the three rows behind me in my section.

The architecture of PBA is not conducive to crowd involvement. We could mitigate that architecture somewhat if our CHEERLEADERS would, y'know, like lead CHEERS or something.

Instead, what we get is that infernal "GOOOOO BIIIIIIIIG REEEE'ED --- GO! BIG! RED!" cheer.

By itself, that's not a bad cheer necessarily, but it doesn't lend itself to a crowd sustaining the cheer like the cheers we used to have at Devaney. Y'know, the "DEE-FENSE (clap clap) DEE-FENSE (clap clap)" cheer OR the "GO BIG RED! (clap) GO BIG RED! (clap)" cheer. These were cheers the cheerleaders could lead and the audience could repeat and it could be sustained for lengthy periods of time.

But, not only do we have an architecture of PBA that literally stratifies the fanbase into levels that separate half the audience from the action, we ALSO no longer employ cheers that the audience can sustain.

    That's the problem.
