Sometimes it seems to me that Brice doesn’t play within the team concept. He lacks intensity with his defense and passing and seems to be more Interested in hunting his own shots. The ball has a tendency to stick when it gets in his hands. He has a lot of tools to like but I am not sure you can teach someone to be a fierce competitor.
Thank goodness for KT. He was nails at the end. It is frustrating that we go minutes where we don’t run anything for him…heck, he doesn’t even touch the ball during stretches on offense. To me you want him at least touching it to give the defense something to think about since he is our most dangerous player.

We out rebounded NW 40 to 26. It sure didn't seem that way.

We took care of business at home. I love when I let the darkness take over and I pick the Huskers to lose and they don't. The win just feels better. You know... a little dirty, but better 😏

This caught my ear the other night. It’s the song they use as the “Music Bed” for the College Scoreboard portion of the Halftime Show on your Husker Radio Network.

History tells us then, we should probably face guard their guy who is 13% from deep on the year OR their guy who has “only” made 5 threes this year.

Kinda surprised by the anger and dismay from folks about this loss.
This is NOT “same old Nebraska”. Same old Nebraska hasn’t ever been here, coming out to a half-dead road crowd after beating the #1 team in the country by 16 three days prior.
ANY team - and I do mean any - was going have a letdown there. And there is not enough of a talent delta to overcome it.
Teams come out flat. Lose on the road. Coaches get outcoached. It happens. It’s a 31-game season. And I have to tell you, there’s a 4-game stretch coming down the road that looks like an 0-4 deal (look at our schedule, you’ll see it). But that doesn’t mean we can’t still go 22-9 and be a safe tourney pick. So let’s all just keep our poo together. This wasn’t one of the games projected as a win, folks.
Sure, you could say it was a “winnable” game. So is any game. Michigan St, Kansas St, Indiana, and Purdue were likely losses and went 4-0 against them. So let’s not lose perspective.
We will give Rutgers a good game. They will be ready to go.
I swear, some of you act like you haven’t been a masochist NUBB fan for very long. If you have, you should know better and enjoy the 13-4 start!
GBR!

He understands they’re too talented to play this poorly & it’s happening too often. I also wish he (they) didn’t feel weighed down by this “Winning a Tournament Game” Gorilla & just focus on playing their BEST Basketball. Everything else will take care of itself.

I’ve got not issue with this. Seems like he and his sister are emotional people and he was pissed. The concern I have here is how he made it seem like there are guys not on the same page on the team.

Agreed! There is tons of good content on Peacock, and $6 is dirt cheap for a streaming service. I don't get all the negativity. The broadcasts and video quality are nice as well!

You tell me we would shoot 49% from the floor and 46% from the 3 and we would lose by double digits I wouldn't believe you.
At around the 12min mark WI had a nice little run to get the game to double digits and we just couldn't get back in the game.
I don't like Mast attempting 7 3pt shots. We also only had 3 guys in double figures when we usually have at least 4.
JG and JL did not play well.
We only had 3 guys in double figures when we typically have 4+
The difference was points in the paint with WI having a 36 to to 18 advantage. We essentially played them even in the 2nd half.
There was a couple of times during the game when I thought the wheels where going to fall off and fought back.
This is just one of those BIG road games. Lets see if we can pull an upset against Purdue on Tuesday.

LNKtrnsplnt reacted to hhcmatt in Game Day Essentials: Game #15 at #21 Wisconsin
Nebraska Cornhuskers (12-2) at #21 Wisconsin Badgers (10-3)
Date: Saturday Jan 6rd, 2024
Time: 1:15 pm
Arena: Kohl Center
Broadcast: BTN
Wisconsin Info
Head Coach: Greg Gard
Location: Madison, WI
Conference: B1G
Nickname: Badgers
Mascot: Bucky Badger
Line: Wisconsin by 7
Typical Rotation Depth: 9+
KenPom rank: 13
Nota bene:
Nebraska has won their last two contests vs Wisconsin including a rare road win at the end of the 2021-22 season. Nebraska is 2-7 all-time vs teams ranked #21 in the AP poll Wisconsin has returned most of its roster from last season, ranking 9th in KenPom's minute continuity stat Bryce Williams is 6 points away from 1,000 career points
KenPom most used lineups
PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 23 Chucky Hepburn

6-4 200 Jr 2 AJ Storr
6-7 205 So 5 Tyler Wahl
6-9 225 Sr 22 Steven Crowl
7-0 247 Jr 20.5
Player to watch: AJ Storr
Wisconsin brought back 9 of their top 10 scorers from last year. AJ Storr is the one transfer they've added and he's turned out to be the leading scorer though he's currently struggling from 3 after shooting 40%+ as a freshman.
Player to watch: Steven Crowl
Crowl is a problem as he's not only highly accurate inside but is also able to find teammates when double teams occur. In addition to being a great rebounder on both ends, he's hit a ridiculous 11 of his 16 3s this season. About the only thing Crowl doesn't do is block shots.
Player to watch: Chucky Hepburn
The Omaha native is always someone Nebraska fans watch in this matchup. Hepburn struggled last year having to shoulder a higher scoring load. With Storr in the picture, Hepburn is able to focus on being a distributor on offense and a disrubtor on defense. Like Storr he's also struggling from 3.
Others to watch
Tyler Wahl has recovered from an ankle injury that really hampered his productivity last season. Max Klesmit is also underperforming from 3. Freshman guard John Blackwell has played into the rotation in part because of his 3pt shooting and in part because of Connor Essegian's struggles. Carter Gilmore, Nolan Winter, and Markus Ilver are depth at the post.

The Skinny:
Wisconsin has earned their rating this season playing one of the toughest non-con schedules in D-1, scoring impressive wins over Marquette, Virginia, and SMU. Nebraska took another path, using a low end schedule to figure out the roster. Nebraska looks to see if they've found a winning formula against the team undefeated in conference play this afternoon.
While there aren't NBA players on the squad, this team looks a lot like a better team version of what Indiana rolls out. The Badgers will put you on the FT line and will give you 3pt looks...something this Nebraska team has thrived on. For whatever reason their 3pt offense has cratered given they aren't taking nor making many 3s. While not quite as 2pt heavy as Indiana, their finishers aren't as elite.
This is yet another good stylistic matchup for the Huskers and potentially a stealable road game against a NCAA tourney team. Can Nebraska put together the 40 minutes it will likely need to win this one?
Prediction: Wisconsin 80 - Nebraska 73

JA now has a defined role on this team which will get him a lot of minutes. I noticed after the flagrant when he hit both of his shots he stepped away and raised his arms like finely. Very self deprecating moment there.
I don't care what the announcers said, that was a flagrant 2. It wasn't his momentum, he was intentionally reaching, first making contact with his face and mouth (almost fish hooked him) and then pulling him down by his neck violently.
KT's game has evolved so much, especially that floater. He moves so well without the ball. What he does really well is dish the ball. Teams are so hyper-focused on his ability to make 3's that it leaves gaps in the defense for him to give up the ball for easy buckets by his teammates. He's also an underrated defender. Does a great job of jumping lanes and in general being a pest.
Props to CJ for always continuing to battle. He's playing his role.
Any word on his injury.
I know for a fact that RM was no where near a 100%. He shouldn't have played. His presence has to be accounted for by our opponent.
Quiet 15 for Bryce and 12 for JL.
9 players with 10+ minutes.
Playing a team with the kind of length and height of IU and getting a win was big and will help us down the road. We where essentially even on rebounds with them.

Good point and contrast it with a couple years ago when I can remember Bryce McGowens standing still waiting for a ball rolling towards him from 5 feet away while opposing team players from 15 feet away came and got it first. That is why - regardless of record - this years team (and last years as well) are so much more fun to watch than the teams Fred had his first couple years.
Without disagreeing with your reference to Denim Dawson (who did always play very hard) I credit it more to the attitude that we got when Emmanuel Bandoumel and Juwan Gary joined the team. Those two were "effort" leaders from the beginning and I think Juwan very much still plays that leadership role with this team, both on the floor and in the locker room. One thing I noticed last night is that well after most everyoone else had left the floor and Keisei was waiting for the TV interview Juwan came all the way out to half court to give him 5 and tell him good game. Showed to me that Juwan is great in that leadership role.
Related to that another thing I noticed was the late in the game after Keisei got really gassed and came of the game. Usually whenever a player comes out they go all the way to the end of the bench slapping hands with the whole team. When Keisei came out that time the guys at the end motioned to him to just sit down because you could see he was really tired. But then after he was sitting and the game continued first CJ Wilcher and then Reink Mast made a point of getting up and walking down to where Keisei was sitting near the scorers table to slap his hand and say "good job" (or something to that efffect). Evidence to me of a team that enjoys playing with each other. I also saw a moment early in the 2nd half game where Keisei and Brice had a moment together like that on the court. I always thought the posts early in the year about conflicts between Brice and Keisei were overblown. Both of them play with a scoreers mentality so they are always looking for their shot first - but I don't think there is any significant animosity or jealousy between them and I think they both know that having the other one on the team only serves to open up opportunities for themselves because the defence has to share the focus.

Did anyone else note that at one point in the first half both Josiah and Keisei had scares with their ankles. Nobody can convince me that Josiah, Keisei and Juwan are 100% healthy. So that is a bit scary.
Keisei either read or heard the complaints about his antics and his overall spirit. He is playing much more concise and stoic. I, for one, miss his uncurbed enthusiasm.

I have some time today, so I did a NET deep dive for anyone who is interested. A four spot bump in the NET today thanks to teams we beat exceeding expectations!
- Michigan St up to #33 which is 3 spots away from making that a Q1 win for us.
- Kansas St up to #86 which is 11 spots away from making that a Q1 win for us.
- Oregon St up to #198 which bumps that from a Q4 win to a Q3 win. They would have to get into the Top 100 to make it a Q2, so that's unlikely to happen.
- Minnesota at #87 remains well into Q2 loss territory. As long as they can play semi-well, that loss won't be as big of a black eye as one might have thought when it happened.
Resume As Of Today (56 NET): It's not as bad as you might think. It's certainly bubble worthy as it stands, but also isn't NCAA Lock worthy either. Lot's of opportunity in conference play.
Q1 (0-1): Creighton
Q2 (3-1): Duquesne, @Minny, MSU, @KSU
Q3 (1-0): Oregon St.
Q4 (6-0): Lindenwood, FL A&M, Rider, Stoney Brook, Fullerton, North Dakota
Remaining Quads As Of Today: Reminder that these will fluctuate throughout the season as teams move up and down. Here is what we're looking at as of today.
Q1: @Wisconsin, Purdue, @Iowa, Wisconsin, @Illinois, @Northwestern, @Ohio State, @Michigan
Q2: @Rutgers, Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan, @Indiana
Q3: Indiana, @Maryland, Penn St, Minnesota, Rutgers
Q4: SCST
