Very underrated aspect of the team this regular season:

With a win tonight, we have officially guaranteed that the longest losing streak this team has had this year is 2 losses.

    Incredible.

With the caveat that the goal is the NCAA Tournament and not BIG 10 Tournament seeding.
We need Wisconsin to win tonight. They are barely a Q1 win for us now and a loss to IU, even though it is a road game, would likely drop their NET to a Q2.

Take this for what it’s worth but I think this is the first time our odds of a four seed are greater than five 👀

    I hear you, in theory.

We've also never won 7 consecutive conference games in the 21st century. And our goal is to clean out the rest of the regular season. Is it possible? Yes. But any conference game isn't guaranteed.

It was just 2 seasons ago that a 8-21 (2-16) Nebraska basketball team won at #23 Ohio State and at #10 Wisconsin in back-to-back road conference games.

I just don't want to finish the season 22-9 (13-5) and #4 in the Big Ten...

Yep. The Nebraska sucks sentiment has permeated the Husker football fan base for 25 years. Those people frustrated me so damn much in the Collier and Sadler years. But I almost get more frustrated with them in times like this year (and 2014, 2018) when they suddenly become basketball “fans”. Call me selfish, but I don’t think they deserve to enjoy the good times. I’d much rather talk hoops with a Jaysker than a fake Nebraska basketball fan who has no idea who Nate Johnson is.

Until the advent of this site, I thought there were only about five true basketball fans in this state.  Others were casual fans or band wagon jumpers.  Seriously, if you tried to sit down with most Nebraskans, their eyes would tend to glaze over when husker (or even Creighton) basketball would be brought up.
Now, I know that is an over-exageration; but this site introduced me to true, for the most part, deeply passionate husker basketball fans.  We can literally discuss our team 24/7/365.

I’m stunned by this. I figured every Nebraska basketball fan had heard the Nebraska basketball sucks sentiment 100s of times from other Husker fans. I experience it all the time. Huge Husker football fans constantly making jokes about about how awful we are at basketball. “Don’t care, don’t watch, they’re the worst program in P5”. Obviously it’s far less right now, but it’s been a constant since the Collier era. Pisses me off to no end. Hell I know plenty of NU grads that are now Creighton fans because “Nebraska is terrible”. Bunch of pansies.

We need PBA to be completely rocking these next two home games.  Playing 2 very dangerous teams and can easily lose to either of them.  The average fan might not realize it.  We have to help bringh these guys home.

I am on record saying we need Lawrence when people were calling for him to be benched for Hoiberg.  He gives us things nobody else does.  So happhy for him that he had a game like this.  He is a big part of our future as well hopefully.

Conference standings really mean nothing to the committee. We should worry more about our resume than about where we finish in the league. The only benefit to the double bye from a resume perspective is we likely avoid an opportunity for a bad loss.

With that said it is not good for Michigan State and Wisconsin to lose. Those are our 2nd and 3rd best wins. They need to remain impressive, and absolutely need to remain in Q1.

We have to hope the PBA effect continues because I don’t like the matchups with Rutgers and Minnesota.  I think Indiana is our best bet for that road win.

Way over simplified. But say we're projected to win all 5 of our games. But the expected individual game probabilities are 52%, 75%, 90%, 60%, and 55%.

    In short, that's 1*52%+1*75%+1*90%+1*60%+1*65% = 3.42 wins out of 5 games.

As we learned in 2018, the committee doesn't care about conference standings. They've even publicly stated that. So I wouldn't factor that into our rooting interests. What I'd care more about is hoping we don't run into Minnesota in our first game, as they'll have home court advantage and are starting to play well.

For me this is a tough one to choose. Pros to Minnesota winning:
Helps our SOS, as we play them twice compared to Iowa only once. This could maybe help us by a spot or two in the metrics, but it may also be completely unimpactful. They're flirting with the top 75 in NET (currently 85). Assuming we beat them in Lincoln, it'd be great if that ended up as a Q2 win.
    Cons to Minnesota winning:
I personally don't know if I want to see our loss to them turn into Q1 because I think the committee hyper focuses on Q1 records. Our Q1 record is already starting to slide a bit at 3-5. If the roadie at Minnesota slides in there, 3-6 would not be attractive. I don't want to see Minnesota get hot right before coming to Lincoln. They're starting to play really well, and while I trust us to get it done in PBA, the game is starting to look a lot tougher.

Watched the end of Wisconsin's 4th straight loss - and then switched to Creighton/Xavier but then realized after reading this thread I needed to root for Creighton to win that game - and just could not do that.   No fun to watch a Creighton game if I can't hope that they lose :)

Tomorrow is loaded with tournament-impacting games. Other than our game:

It hurts to say this, but maybe the most important game of the day is for Creighton to beat Xavier because they probably jump us if they were to beat Creighton. Plus, we played Creighton. 11:30am

Another very important game is for Gonzaga to lose to Kentucky, which is the more likely outcome. 3:00pm

Arizona plays at Colorado. If Colorado wins, they are favored to make the tournament. If they lose, they are favored to miss it. Huge game. 9:00pm

Another rooting interest is for Tennessee to beat Texas A&M, who is in the tourney right now but not by much. 7:00pm

Really need Marquette to take care of business hosting St. John's. 5:00pm

Oregon hosts Washington State and is favored to win. We need that to happen as Wazzu is an 11 seed on BM. 4:00pm

Providence plays Butler. Two bubble teams. Not sure who to root for - whoever loses, we want to keep losing thereafter. 1:00pm

There are tons more with moderate impacts but those look like the big ones to me. Apologies if I made any mistakes, I did this flipping between browser tabs on my phone before the zzzz's kick in

It is puzzling. Brice is incredibly frustrating to watch play, but this team is not better when he's on the bench.
On the other hand, while he puts up good numbers, you have to wonder if this team would be better off with a David Rivers type in his spot - a guy who is not potent offensively, but plays mistake-free basketball with elite defense and constant hustle.

If Brice holds this team back I don't think it's because of his play. It's the way he interacts with his teammates. It's more than just a laid back personality. It's been clear all year that he doesn't care for Keisei (not abnormal for 18-22 year olds on the same team to not get along, but it is abnormal for it to be so obvious between the lines). He'll throw his hands up in disgust when a teammate makes a silly turnover or doesn't grab a rebound, yet he's probably the biggest culprit in both of those areas. Something just isn't clicking with him on this team.
