Morgan State (2-1) vs. Nebraska (2-0) Game Thread
12dozen replied to Bugeaters1's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Amy subbing early and often. This is fun. -
Definitely, not a job for the timid. I'd like to think, the opportunity to compete in this conference, will help our staff bring in the athletes needed. No complaints here, on last years newbies. Hoping we get to see a little more of this years class, tomorrow night. Early returns, seem positive.

Helms must not be at 100% yet. Hard to impress in 3 minutes, but she sure looked comfortable with the ball in her hands.
-
Good first game. Minutes for everyone. Comfortable lead, not without some struggles. Should give coach something to work with.
-
Very early for sure, BUT, I think Bourne is going to help a bunch.

It should be fun, watching Hoiberg develop this team. With Walker and Banton sitting a year, and Stevenson, an NCAA green light away from playing, there might be more pieces in place, then showed last night. Upper tier BIG? Not this year. Now, with the ladies, let's not rule anything out. BTN+ subscription is in place. Looking forward to the game today. Go get 'em Huskers.

Excellent interview with Amy. Thanks Redsteve. Have to admit, I'm a little fired up. Liked hearing Kate singled out for improved play and conditioning. Newbies, bringing it in practice, was also good to hear. Time to sign up for BTN+ again. Side note... I still wish this team received more local media attention. Sounds like, on and off the court, this group represents our state/school, at the highest level. Go Get 'Em Ladies!!

I start..... Eliely - easiest pick of the bunch. Cain - can she stay out of foul trouble? Show improvement from the soph season? Whitish - has earned the benefit of the doubt. Do we get the All BIG performer of 2 years ago, or not? Mershon - reminds me of Hailie Sample. Steady, steady, steady. Brown - base this on the over seas trip. Could just as easily have been Kissinger.
-
I too like our depth and look for a successful year. I'm not sure the lack of success last year, was due to inexperience. I feel we underachieved because Whitish, Cain, and Simon didn't perform up to expectations. The inexperienced players carried their weight, and then some. (IMO). Regardless, this year has plenty of potential. Should be an enjoyable ride.

If they had 8 kids on campus, why the radio silence? If they are working their asses off, why not promote themselves and their program? Nebraska finished 22nd in attendance last year. This was with limited success on the floor. Fans are not the problem. Also, I believe the BIG 10 had seven NCAA tournament bids last year to the BIG 12's four, so not sure which is the better WBB league. Yes, I'm a bit on the frustrated side.

Very possible. But, who would know. There is a serious communication void between Nebraska University women's basketball and their fan base. Without information sharing, one can speculate, there is apathy at the administration level, coaches are not putting in an effort, staff is incompetent, 2020 recruiting is a dumpster fire, etc. Probably untrue, but we have nothing telling us otherwise. Mr. Moos, Amy, OWH, LJS, someone, throw us a scrap now and then.
-
Agree. The lack of visibility is inexcusable. The combination of a disappointing season and absence of any information regarding the upcoming season, has me wondering if this staff is up to the task. Not sure if that is fair or not. How would we know? What is being done to get us back on track? Keep the fans in the loop. And, shame on the OWH and LJS. Do your job.

More crickets. Might be easier to get an injury report from Scott Frost, than getting any Lady Husker recruiting information.
-
The senior guard agreed to walk on to the Nebraska women’s basketball program last week and announced her decision on Sunday. “It’s a big relief,” Brown said. “I made the decision last Tuesday and tweeted it out (Sunday) to let people know.” Brown had a pair of scholarship offers from NCAA Div. II schools, but in the end the allure of the Huskers won out.

The Fall recruiting contact period begins Monday, September 9th, and runs through September 29th. I've already seen mention of Hoiberg and staff being ready to hit the ground running, and a list of potential recruits they plan of visiting. Hopefully, similar information regarding the Lady Huskers, will see the light of day. Go get 'em coaches.

I read in the article, "Williams can't talk about specific prospects, but NU is still looking to sign 3 or 4 recruits for the 2020 class." Can someone at least report official, and unofficial planned visits? It seems this type information is reported almost weekly with regards to the men's basketball program. It would be interesting to see who we are chasing. (OWH/LJS?)

Thanks Red. This forum beats the local papers to the punch again. Well done. Any idea, who they might be targeting in the Atlanta or Washington, D.C. areas?
-
I noticed some Tweets from the coaches in your "Huskers Win In Europe" thread. They were from July 20 and July 21 mentioning hitting the road for recruiting. Mays was headed to Georgia and Iowa. Goehle to Minneapolis, Ames, Ia., and Thailand. Chuck Love to DC, Atlanta, and Ladera Ranch, California. Amy was headed to DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. No mention of local recruiting. The Stewart girl from Minnesota might have been the Minneapolis target? Just guessing.

It is discussed a bit in the Allison Weidner thread. Quick answer, it does seem we have offered her.
-
Is that the "Urban Meyer" option?
-
It's been mostly "crickets" regarding 2020 recruiting. One wonders if the staff isn't saying much, or doesn't have much to say. Did they take the summer off? Who knows. Hard to build/retain interest, without an occasional mention. Would be nice if the local papers put a little effort into covering Nebraska Women's sports, (other than volleyball).
