  1. I'll be the first to say it: Nicea has got to shoot the ball!! Doesn't even look at the basket half the time. She's way too athletic not be aggressive on offense. It allows the defense to stand and just pick off her passes. Even if the shot doesn't go in it makes the defense have to at least respect you. I love how Maddie has become that kind of player this year. She may not be the best shooter, but her aggression makes her a tough player! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  2. Having played college and semi-pro ball, I totally agree Huskerfrank. But also it's good to keep im mind that these early non-conference games are where you can kind of tinker with your lineups, subs, etc. Not that coach Amy isn't trying to win; but when you head into the conference schedule coaches usually tend to have their primary lineup rotations figured. It usually stays around 8-9 players maybe 10 weigh certain matchups, score, etc. But I do agree with playing too many players makes it harder to get a rhythm. 3. I'm thinking the starting lineup is going to be Bria, Hannah, Nicea, Maddie, Darrien. Just my guess though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  4. I haven't checked messages in awhile, but welcome "Proudparent"! Nicea has told me so many good things about Bria! She's excited to play with her this year!! And hello everybody else in here!! [emoji4] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  5. I appreciate everybody in this forum, and really love the support you all have for the girls. Of course I always watch what I say bc I do realize that potentially Nicea would be the one who'd have to answer for it. But I do enjoy sharing alot of the information, etc that you guys normally don't get to hear about. Again thank you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  6. I haven't checked messages in a free days so I missed this one! But 12dozen I can probably answer a few of your questions seeing as Nicea just went back to Lincoln on Tuesday after being home for 2 weeks. Like Proudparent said, the girls were due back yesterday. I know Nicea is helping with bball camp that starts today thru the weekend. And is also taking a summer class. She's excited bc she just moved into her campus apartment - which is very nice btw! She said all the girls actually get along really well. She tends to hangout (more) with Grace, Maddie & Hannah. Though they're not required to play, Nicea said alot of they play against each other almost daily at Hendricks or they team up and run the court over at the rec center lol ... She said the 2 transfer girls, Bria and Janay are very good. Bria is very quick and gets to basket and passes really well; and Janay is a great shooter. Son for anyone upset over RCJ transferring need not worry lol.. relationships with coaches seem to be good. The girls are still required to meet with their assigned coach once a week to talk about bball, classes, concerns, life, etc. Personally I hope they up their conditioning and move towards being an uptempo type of team. Because we're obviously going to be guard- heavy. Hope this helps a little bit! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  7. Lol. Just bad freshman habits that I hope she grows out of. She has a habit of wanting to block everyone's shot bc in high school she spiked 5 shots a game. Definitely a different caliber of girls in the B1G lol. She's gotta learn to stay on the floor and just get her hands up. Sometimes a contested shot is just as good as a block..but I'll definitely remind her of that, Tony! ??
  8. Great game, and such a great win for the girls!! I know I'm late, but I always follow the comments. All the different input is great; no matter if it's positive or critical of the girls...Nicea had zero's in the last 2 games. She cut her hand in practice before the Michigan game and had to get 6 stitches. So she's been playing with her 2 fingers taped together - which obviously she hasn't figured out how to make a shot with lol (no excuses!). But after that Michigan debacle she said she wanted to show that she can still put her stamp on the game by playing tough defense...anyhoo proud of the girls bc even if we lose all I wanted to see was effort. I'm glad they're finally showing they want to win! Illinois is definitely beatable!!
  9. Watching her highlight video reminds me of when Nicea was that age. Still really raw and unpolished. I thought it was amazing when Nicea could touch the rim. Her teammates were always telling her to dunk it lol.. Hope Kayla keeps improving; and always looking forward to any girl who can make us better! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  10. Oh that's right! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah I was at both of em sitting in section 118 as usual! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  12. Congrats to her! That was a great game to be at. The fans and atmosphere were amazing! I picked the right time to come out for 2 games. The OSU game was awesome too [emoji4] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  13. I don't know what Coach Amy's substitution patterns were at South Dakota, but I do know a little bit about coaching/playing and the fact that she's coming into a team who she didn't know at all before this season is probably the main reason she goes deep into her bench. Also the fact that we still have been unable to really find a solid core lineup who gets it done night in, night out would contribute to that too. We aren't very deep bench-wise so it's about trying to find that player who can come in and contribute right away or worst case sustain what's already going on. So if a team zones us maybe Emily sees the floor more that night; if they're small inside Grace and Darrien get more time. But honestly the reason why she probably plays 9-10 girls is bc 6,7,8 aren't really doing much to sustain what the starters are doing. We've had bright moments for Maddie, Esther and Darrien, but overall they haven't really played up to expectations. And I don't mean that in a negative way. 14. Oh no I wasn't necessarily saying Coach Amy's style of coaching is "bad". Just saying that I'd like her to be a little tougher on Nicea. Just little things I notice - because I know my daughter - that would allow her to get more out of Nicea. Things that the average fan doesn't pick-up on because they see all the other things she does so well. I'm not going to say them out loud bc then you guys would be watching the games going, "Oh yeah she does do that!" Lol. But if we weren't confident in Coach Amy, and if Nicea didn't absolutely love this team I wouldn't even comment on these posts bc I'd know we didn't plan on being lifetime Huskers. I really appreciate having this forum to listen to all the different perspectives and support! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  15. On another note, kind of a funny story. We took our visit to CU Boulder and coach Linda Lappe - who was let go at the end of last season - seemed very pleasant. She wanted Nicea really bad. Which was understandable bc Nicea was the #2 player in Colorado and it would've been great to sign a homegrown kid to her program. We knew she was on the hot seat and we asked her and the AD about that on the visit. They both assured us she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon at all. Anyway, at the end of the visit she wanted Nicea to verbally commit, but we refused bc we told her we were going to Nebraska the following weekend and we'd decide after that visit. So the night before we're set to go to NU Coach Lappe calls Nicea at about 10p and I can see Nicea has a kind of worried look on her face. I ask her what's wrong and she says Coach Lappe said if I go on the trip to Nebraska she's taking the scholarship offer away. Needless to say that conversation pretty much took CU out of the equation bc I was not going to have a coach bully Nicea before she's even one of her players. Coach Lappe had another losing season and was let go, and I'm sure she's not an ugly person, but the pressure had her acting otherwise. We obviously made the right choice with Nebraska and in spite of our current struggles winning, Nicea loves everything about being a Husker! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  16. Very interesting. We (Nicea) were recruited very heavily by WSU. We narrowed it down to 3 schools (out of 27 offers) which were Wichita State, Colorado University and Nebraska. After our visit to WSU we were almost 100% sure Nicea was going there. We really liked Coach Jody Adams. The allegations had just come out about her so I knew the main thing I wanted to ask her was to explain that situation. She was very open and honest and we left feeling pretty certain there was nothing to worry about. Almost didn't go on our visit to Nebraska we were so high on WSU, but Britney Brown - the assistant at the time under Coach Yori was so consistent recruiting Nicea that we felt like we owed it to her. Obviously after 2 days in Lincoln we fell in love with everything about NU. But I well say one of the things about the program we liked was the hard-nosed coaching style of Yori. Like I said before, Nicea actually thrives under that style. Not as much with a laid back style like Williams...anyhoo I don't know what happened at WSU and I do believe there is alot of abuse of players by coaches; but I also believe coaches aren't being allowed to discipline players like they used to be. This generation of kids don't have the same respect for authority as my generation or those before me. When a coach is tough on today's players they're more likely to report the coach to the AD vs. sucking it up and trying to get better. It's an epidemic with all these coaches getting investigated and/or fired for player abuse. Kinda sad actually. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  17. So frustrating to watch. Playing the tough teams that we've played really exposes where we need to be as a program. So much standing and watching while Maryland goes hard for every rebound. What can be done to make this team play harder?! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  18. Our defense and ymturnovers are still really bad. Play the with the same kind of heart and intensity that we did down the stretch, from the start of the game and we win easily. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  19. Hannah having another strong game! She's got a great shot Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  20. Not to be negative all the time, but this is really frustrating to watch. Our defense is absolutely atrocious. We don't get back; we always seem lost in the half court set - allowing tons of wide open looks. There's just no intensity or emotional on the floor or from the bench. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  21. Obviously the "secret" is out that we don't get back on defense smh Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  22. All great comments! I agree with everyone. Most all the same things I've said as well. I was really impressed with Hannah's play last night. She handles the ball really well - better under pressure too. He advantage over Esther imo is her ability to get into the paint and create shots for herself and others. It also spreads the floor bc it gives us a legitimate 3 point shooting threat that teams will eventually have to honor as she gets going. She missed a couple that rimmed out last night that will definitely fall in future games. She's got the potential to be be better than Romeo in that her shot (will eventually be) just as good; but her handle and ability to create shots for teammates will be huge as he confidence grows..Nicea played well too. She was great in limiting Deary's effectiveness. She's always been a great defender. She's still not even playing to her potential there either, and I think that's due to conditioning as well. I've been talking to her about being more aggressive on offense. She's got to shoot the ball. Gotta find ways to get to the basket. She could easily average 12-15 ppg imo. If we get the consistency out of her and Hannah we saw last night we'll have a pretty tough young threesome! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  23. @Redsteve, yes those the UConn players are very skilled; but honestly I'd say good defense is about 10% skill and 90% effort. The effort part can be coached! I guarantee from the very first day of practice at UConn it's drilled into them how hard they're going to have work (on both ends) to be successful. The old saying, "offense wins games, defense wins championships" holds true to this day. I really do like Coach Amy and all the staff, but if I had to have 1 criticism of the team is that they just don't play hard enough imo. They don't get down in a stance, get in passing lanes, make the ball handler work, box out, etc. They make lazy passes. I feel like alot of this could be remedied if the intensity was raised. This "lazy" play is where a hard-nosed Coach would've nipped it in the bud a long time ago. I'm gonna show Nicea some tape of herself so she can see where she needs to improve. But most of it is all about effort and intensity!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  24. Yup I agree with all of that. Defense is not a priority. They might be the worst team I've seen at defending the screen. The girl whose 'man' is setting the screen just sits back and watches her teammate try to fight through it. There's no hedge/show, switch or open up to help the teammate. Offensively it seems like it's just "my turn motion". Very frustrating to watch this basketball bc they really could be so much better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  25. I'm not trying to be negative, but I've watched every single game this year and our defense is absolutely atrocious. There is no kind of intensity at all. It'd be interesting to see the percentage our opponents shoot from 3 bc every team has wide open looks. I'm not sure what the girls do in practice but they're definitely not getting better game by game. Coach Williams and her staff need to be tougher. Period. Idk if that's not her style or if she's holding back bc this is her first year, and also Coach Yori resigning bc she was "hard on her players". I know Nicea actually responds better to tough coaching, that's one of the reasons we chose NU..and she's playing like she's in the fog now too. Better get it together fast!!
