  1. Thank you so much Issie for coming to NU and sharing your talents, hard work et. al. with the program these last four years! You will be truly missed both as a player and as a person. I wish you nothing but the best as you move on and continue your journey! Once a Husker, always a Husker!! Go Big Red!!
  2. Saw an article noting the ISU players who had entered the portal. Thought pretty much the same thing- that Coach Williams and co. needed to make some phone calls (contact generally) to at least some of these gals if not all of them. Particularly Donarski. I would think she would but then I have no inside info. etc.
  3. Bummer. Always hate to see the season come to an end. Pretty good effort under the circumstances. Never could get it to within one possession in the last few minutes. Legs tired, shots didn't fall for us in the stretch. Now we look to see what happens in the offseason. Not a really good season, but enjoyed following it as always. They made it interesting in the postseason by getting a couple of wins, which I enjoyed going to. GBR!!
  4. Alexis needs to try to stay in the game and be at least somewhat productive.
  5. I will be listening while following the men's games. Let's go be road warriors Huskers!! GBR!! I'm hoping we will at least hang in there until the final stages and have a chance to win at the end.
  6. Boo Hiss. Though I can guess why they made that decision.
  7. Boy I missed what was going on there. But then I was near the top of the 100's.
  8. Was at the game also and pretty much would echo what HUD said. Team really stepped up when Sam went down. Really liked the effort from the guards going forward from that and particularly thought Kendal M. really had a nice game. Issie really asserting herself in the WNIT and showing she loves to "ball." Execution was quite good in that they kept the turnovers way down. Could be a NU v. KU rematch as the Hawks are at home for their game tomorrow night. We'll see how that one turns out. Down to 16 and we're still playing- and maybe at home again thanks to the crowd support!! GBR!!
  9. Was at the game last night. Overall I thought we played intense and executed well enough to pull out a W. Mo. St I figured would be really tough going simply by the fact that they played Drake within 4 points in their conf. tourney matchup (remember Drake?). Yeah that's a very broad comparison but anyway. I was glad to see the team play hard and show some enthusiasm along the way. I see we will be playing No. Iowa on Sun. afternoon here at PBA. I recall playing them in the 1st round of the WNIT here and losing in/near the end of Yori's tenure (don't remember the year off hand). Will be happy and feel fortunate to go and support them one more time. Hoping the result against them is different this time around. GBR!!
  10. Don't think I can really add anything new to what has been said. Disappointing game, overall disappointing season. Some highs certainly, but the lows were pretty low. I did not feel optimistic about winning this game- I always tend to think there is a "revenge factor" for the team that loses the first game, esp. if the teams look pretty even. Thought after we got away w/ a W in the first matchup that MSU might be a little more likely to win a game vs. NU on a neutral court. Oddly enough, that matchup occurred and this is the result. Of course, whatever else happens in a game, the ball has to go in the basket a better percentage than the opponent most of the time in order to win. MSU got the better end of the deal in that regard. I have been thinking for awhile that Coach Williams maybe had bought herself another year based on last year's success. I see at least a few feel like perhaps the time is now for her to move on. I don't know if my assessment is accurate we will see. Just saying it has been my prevailing thought. I know for sure that not only do we need more overall talent, but more bodies to rely on that are more talented (i.e. a fuller roster). Seemed like we often got very little from the bench in games this season, particularly in conf. play (now I have not browsed the season stats so maybe I'm wrong but this is my impression trying to rely on memory). I have my doubts that Coach W. and co. will somehow accomplish that before next season starts (i.e. said talent infusion). We have some nice talent coming in as far as we can tell (2 players are Gatorade players of the year, I think that is a first for WBB- let me know if that is wrong) but three talented players obviously will not be enough (one is a verbal). Of course that is to offset at best the losses that will occur. Sorry for the verbiage. We will see how much they want to play in the postseason as they have time to think about today's game, work on their game individually as well as practices, and await the WNIT pairings
  11. Attended the game today esp. to see Sam, Issie and Jaz honored. We'll see what the Aussies decide ultimately. Also didn't know if I'd see another game this year, since I'll be at work Thur. and Fri. during the day. Will have to DVD and see how it turns out. MSU will be really tough of course so as another alluded to we will really have to be sharp and focused in our play. Perhaps a win Thur. will be enough to get us in? Would have to be very few upsets in conf. tourneys I think for that to happen. It certainly wasn't pretty but glad to get the W. Looked a bit like playing a Rutgers game. NU did enough to pull away and take the suspense out of it late. Will need to play quite a bit better I suspect to win on Thurs. GBR!!
  12. Don't have B1G+ so went to a sports bar to watch the game. Wow, was not expecting that!! Has to be the most complete game they've played this season, at least that I've seen. D was really solid, even stingy at times; offense was executing at peak performance. We got more inside baskets tonight with drives for layups and sharp passing to our bigs for buckets. Looks like they were out with a vengeance to get a W. Well played ladies- really proud of you!! Tip of the cap. GBR!!
  13. I'm always at least a little disappointed but obviously not surprised. Most if not all of the posters here are pretty much on point. Shots just needed to fall quite a bit more often than they did- some of that due to poor shot selection. Made a 9-0 run by hitting 3 threes in a row but can't expect to live on that naturally. Execution not good again for the most part- yes their defense has something to do with that as in every game but some errors were simply unforced which is endemic for this team. Passes have to be smarter and crisper among other issues. Offense seems mostly limited to inside post-up scoring or shooting 3s, which you need to be able to convert at a better % than we have. Not saying all that would have made a difference in this game, simply an analysis of how to perform better overall in games. Can they "bring it" at Illinois? It's up to them to bounce back, tho as a fan I'd be a bit surprised to see a victory. How much do they want to keep playing (into the postseason particularly)? We shall see.
  14. Still in the game, and have been competitive- esp. on defense in which I'm sure they took the previous performance to heart. Let them go on a little run at the end of the half unfortunately. Keep after them, ladies, the crowd is behind you. GBR!!
  15. She's been known to get away with that. Ref, rules are rules.
  16. UGH! So crushing! Too good to be true that we would have the last shot and win in reg. Feel bad for Sam, feared that somehow this would be Minny's night. Jaz was HUUUUUUUUGE, yet it was not enough. The other Aussie, Issie, was big too. Nothing really from the bench.
  17. This one worries me, in spite of the records. "The Barn" is historically a tough place to play, and UM will be hungry to get somebody. If we play as well as we did at Michigan, I think we would win. But every game is it's own animal. Go Big Red!!
  18. I simply want to amend this by saying the quote "Mendelson has been a big disappointment" are not my words but someone else's. My response was in regard to post moves around the basket.
  19. I understand your take on this. My thought has generally been that it was the opinion of the staff perhaps that she did not "fit the culture" of the rest of the team. What am I implying? In part maybe that it was thought that Leigha wanted her shot regardless of what they wanted to do on offense (a bit of a ball hog?). Also perhaps she did not relate well to the rest of the team (in the locker room, etc.) because of this. In this I am trying to think back to 2 yrs. + ago and relying on a very imperfect memory. It was conjecture and a hunch at the time that has stayed with me. This would lead to a discussion of "culture": what is it exactly and how important is it in a program compared to other things? That in turn would lead to a TLDR type of post so will past at least at this time. Am curious if anyone else has any thoughts on this matter. I realize it's all water under the bridge either way. Just thought I'd respond.
  20. In total agreement with this take. I think that after every game I watch us play and observe the opponent's inside players.
  21. Valiant enough effort given today by the ladies (not surprising really after the 2nd half against Illinois) but didn't prove enough. Didn't sound like listening to it that we had enough D stops in the 4th to help our cause (really from the point of that TO when we lead 46-42 in the 3rd). Shot well enough from 3 but still not enough, which is probably indicative of some of our other weaknesses. Doesn't get any easier obviously, we know who is next after Minnesota, who we really need to beat I think to keep up morale if nothing else. The Illini we face again (after UI) this time on the road. Keep bringing it ladies, and we'll see how it shapes out. GBR!!
  22. Alexis, you were HUGE when we needed you most (at the FT line)! Probably didn't deserve to win, but we'll take it. GBR!!
  23. Good to have a 6 pt lead now, but 2 threes can change that. Finish strong ladies!!
  24. Confidence in favor of MSU big time. Hitting a good percentage of 3s can be fools gold sometimes (as NU did in the 1st half). Offense just hasn't clicked in the 2nd half.
