Agree 100%. Stephen A. Smith and others are idiots who don't know the game. Virginia's program was a dumpster from the mid-90s until the 2010s when he got there. People just don't like watching his offense. His offense is often (not so much this year) very efficient and very effective. Many coaches and teams have copied his (his dad's) packline defense, or at least aspects of it. He produces NBA players (9 of them currently in the league right now). And like you said, he's got a ring. I like watching his teams, because they are very well coached. They had a "bad" year and still made the tournament. They will be elite again soon enough. He will keep building with his guys and end up with a team full of players who have played together for 4-5 years while everyone else will have a hodgepodge of portal journeymen.
 
Why don't these talking heads ever call for Calipari to be fired? He lost in the 2nd round last year, 1st round the year before to a 15 seed, and didn't even come close to the NIT the year before that. Awhile back he had a team with two top 10 picks and another first rounder and they went to the NIT.

My two faovorite college teams growing up were....Michigan and Iowa...:)
 
Michigan because of my father (I had no allegiances b/c I grew up in Europe as I mentioned in another recent post) and Iowa because my older sister went to colelge there before I ever knew Nebraska was even a state...:). 
 
As you might imagine,, I didn't take too well to us joining the B1G. It's hard to quickly overhaul a long lifetime of favorites. 
 
Edit: Full disclosure, I still secretly root for those two teams when they're playing anyone else...:) Just like I still do with Creighton for the same reaasons. I was going to CU games before I even set foot in Lincoln for the first time. I remember watching Bird play at the civic in those ridiculous shorts and being blown away by how much better he was than anyone else on the court.

It's a wild, circuitous route to Nebrasketball. Indubitably.
 
I have an Iowa story, too, sort of... it was out of necessity. I grew up on a central NE farm, well, outside of Aurora, NE, imagine that? lol
 
Anyhow, there was an Albion satellite station for a Sioux City TV station, and they religiously showed the Dr. Tom Davis Show every week, that I had stumbled across. Well, me being a rabid basketball junkie, I latched onto it!! I grew to love Dr. Tom much like NU's Dr. Tom Osborne. Both upstanding men who led their teams well. He taught the fundamentals on his 30-min. weekly program for "Iowa Basketball Hoops," as I recall the name, which may not be accurate... nevertheless, I liked the 'Hawks when Roy Marble Sr., B.J. Armstrong, and Acie Earl were roaming the court in the late 80s... It wasn't a "love 'em" type of situation because Nebraska basketball was my love, but I didn't hate 'em either! Turned that liking of BJ Armstrong into lapping up all things Chicago Bulls with the help of MJ, of course. Despite being a poor farmer fam, I did have the original Air Jordans. Loved those shoes, wore 'em out, & donated them to missionaries... memories...

I cut DeCoursey some slack, since his real job is reporting. Palm and Lunardi, on the other hand, get paid to be utter failures.

My memories of individual games is not very clear, but Bernard Day has always been my favorite player.
 
Much later in life, I remember sitting with my kids during a media timeout. They were all staring intently at the floor. I asked each, one by one, what they were looking at. My oldest daughter, a cheerleader, said she was watching the cheerleaders and the dancers. My younger daughter, a dancer, was watching the dancers and the cheerleaders. My oldest was watching the band. No surprise. But my youngest son said he always watched the boys mopping the floor. My best memory even though it wasn’t about the game.

I'm going to step into it here. I don't know how the women's committee works, but imo the men's matchup was just a fluke. I've been tracking bracketology for weeks, and this matchup has been out there waiting to happen. I checked right after the Trev news and thought, "oh, boy." 
 
The committee had a hard enough time figuring out who was in. Then it had to avoid matches through a couple rounds among Mountain West teams (4), Big Ten (3), SEC (2) and Pac 12 (2) in the 7-10 slots. Bracket Matrix had us paired with 9 seed Michigan State. Go up a line, and we're paired with Northwestern. Those don't work, so go down a line and ... TEXAS A&M.
 
Please try completing a seed list without regard to conferences and then get them to fit into a bracket while avoiding conference matchups for 2 rounds. If you think that sounds like too much work, then try doing it by committee. The committee members were up until 2 a.m. Sunday completing the field, and it's hard to believe they spent any time discussing how to arrange this matchup because it fit some kind of narrative.
 
Finally, what would be the motivation for the matchup?
Committee members hate Trev? Seems like he gets along well with his people, aside from the entire state of Nebraska now.
TV? I hate to break it to you, but 95%+ of the viewers don't know about Trev or care. His departure is a big story here and that's about it.
 
The women's process is not as transparent, and there aren't many bracketologists. But I'd guess their committee faces the same difficulties in the process and would not spent a lot of time on "interesting matchups."

Guys, I feel like I've paid some dues and earned this.

just try to ignore the next possible game this time....want no part of Houston....this is one of the biggest reasons I wanted to get to a 7 seed, which we likely would've done if we make it to the finals. 
 
on the other hand, A&Ms as good an opponent to break the streak on as any and the broadcasters will get plenty of fodder for canmera closeups off Trev looking confused as to who to root for...
