  1. I often wonder if this is a lack of recruiting effort or a lack of coverage. We all should realize that WBB is down the list quite a ways from football and MBB when it comes to resources the big media outlets are willing to commit to. That being said, the lack of attention for WBB is still alarming to me. We hear next to nothing in regards to whom the staff is after or just recruiting in general. Personally, I come to this site for info and more often than not, am disappointed.
  2. Parity? You guys do realize that all four #1s and all four #2s made the elite 8, right? And "Goooo Iowa" on a Husker site?! Really? Just because you don't care for Mulkey? If Iowa is playing the devil, in anything...I'm rooting for the devil!
  3. There's a difference between a elite athlete and an elite basketball player. Just because someone can run fast, jump high, throw far etc., doesn't mean they can shoot a basketball well, block-out for a rebound, make good passes, or use good judgement when doing these things. Simon and Havers may be excellent athletes, but their basketball skills are limited. On the other hand, Whitish, Theriot, Sample, Cady et al were/are good basketball players with somewhat limited athleticism. In order to compete with Maryland and Ohio St in the B1G, we need girls that are both.
  4. Finally, some much-needed good news! Keep 'em coming
  5. Great! I was hoping to get her in the fold.Very important recruit. Now,let's go on a run of "good news" items.
  6. I keep thinking the same thing Row6.
  7. Just so I'm clear, if a team wins a Big Ten championship one year and comes back the next year and, say, comes in 2nd, that means they're "trending downward" right? Well,by "downward" I mean we were the conference champions 2 years ago and were 8-0 vs. a slightly above middle of the pack team like Iowa.Since then we have been very average, our program has been put under scrutiny resulting in our esteemed coach resigning,We are,I believe,0-6 against Iowa and they just stole our top recruit. We now have a coach that is unproven at this level, both on-the-court and in the arena of recruiting. Also, the team still has to resolve "chemistry issues" that resulted in a fan-favorite player transferring and the above mentioned top recruit dropping us and selecting our rival instead. This is what I mean when I suggest we're "trending downward".
  8. HB,whether you think so or not,the team definitely WAS trending downward.for whatever reason,(injuries). You are what your record says you are.As you pointed out,we're only 2 years removed from the B1G tourney championship, but that was "pre Maryland".Does anyone realistically expect NU to contend for a conference title the way some other teams are recruiting-specifically OSU and Maryland? With our last 2 recruiting classes I was encouraged. Now that the program has been blown-up,it will be even more of an uphill battle.
  9. I love the passion of our new coach. The award must be for the Summit League. I believe Gino was the national COY.
  10. And years like the current one with no high-level D1 players in the state, then what? The fact is,the state doesn't produce basketball players like it does volleyball players.
  11. Keeping Doyle in the fold is huge IMO. She has an excellent chance to be the starting PG from day 1.Playing with a 5* big for the next 3 years should be a strong selling point.
  12. So, a team with enough problems to get their very successful and experienced coach let go will need no rebuilding at all?
  13. Well put Silver,I was thinking the same thing. If you aren't hustling and obeying the coaches instructions, you are the one with a problem-not the person that points it out.
  14. I thought the same thing. How ironic, with what we're dealing with here @ NU,with alleged "bullying" that the most successful WBB coach in the land coaches with such a heavy hand.
  15. Although I'm not a fan of everything she does, wasn't she the coach of the year 2 years ago when we won the conf tournament? Plus, the national COY a few years ago when we went through the B12 undefeated? That being said,it SEEMS as if some previous assistants were relied upon for their recruiting abilities.Recruiting is the life-blood of any college program and we have had a revolving door recently with some top asst coaches. This can't help in recruiting-neither will this "rumor".
  16. Powers is a junior. I didn't think the WNBA,financially, offered much reason to leave school early. It's why you see the college superstars stay in school all four years. In my opinion,it's what makes womens college basketball more interesting than the mens game.Women don't have the "one-and-dones".
  17. The list of recent winners is pretty impressive.Tyra Buss,(Indiana), won it twice,Morgan Tuck,(UConn),Candace Parker,(Tenn).Last years winner is at Duke.It would be nice to keep a recruiting pipeline to Illinois open.
  18. Nice recap of the season Don.It sure went by fast. Some areas I'd like to see improvements in for next year: -turnovers.All season, with few exceptions, the ladies were alarmingly careless, lazy with the ball.Odd for a Yori team. -rebounding.It appears the team works on this very little.I would hope that's not the case.I noticed in the game against UNI, when a shot would go up,many times our girls would stand and watch or quickly begin heading the other way. It's as if they expect every shot to go in,or someone else's job to get the rebound.Again, something we haven't seen in the past.Think Emily Cady and Hallie Sample. -injuries and conditioning. As I mentioned in an earlier post, people above Connie need to gain control of this situation.I don't know if it's practice habits, equipment,or what, but when a program has the injury issues that this team has had for years,I can't help believe that they're doing something wrong.I may be too "old-school",but when I hear coaches and players, especially in March, blame losing on the length of the season,it's just a cop-out.Funny how you rarely hear winning teams talk about how long the season is. -lastly,it's time to recruit! Comparing our team to say Maryland,or Ohio St,it's painfully obvious that they have more "difference-makers" on their rosters than we do.You change that through recruiting.Hopefully our youngsters, along with the incoming class, can provide help here.

    Availability

The amount of injuries sustained by the womens basketball team at NU is ridiculous! IMO,Eichorst and Boehm should be giving this situation their utmost attention. Trainers, coaches and the administrators need to put their heads together and figure out why this has been going on for literally years. I would hope that the attention this situation merits would have been a focal point long ago,and it probably has. The problem, once again,IMO, with the womens bball program,is a lack of information available to the fans.Like I said, this injury situation HAS to have been addressed hasn't it? The problem is we obviously aren't privy to information regarding the team.To me, as an avid fan of the team,it's maddening! I suspect others are frustrated as well. As an example,in regards to the football team, there are several sites one can visit and find out how the daily practices went, who stood out,who needs to step it up,INJURIES,perceived depth charts, what recruits we're after etc. I understand the difference in interest level between football and womens basketball is extreme to say the least, but would it kill someone, maybe a coach, to share some info with their fans? There are 4-8 thousand fans at home games, plus a ton of others, that would just like to know more about the team they follow and care about. End of rant.
  20. Other than Theriot and Clark, has anyone else been ruled out for Thursdays game? I know there's been talk that Rachel Blackburn will need some surgery after the season, and Jess has been in a walking boot. Has the nearly 2 weeks off since we last played changed anything in regards to their availability?
  21. We really need tougher, more athletic bigs. Jess looks pretty ordinary without Theriot.
  22. Had to flip to page 7 of this mornings OWHerald to find the story.Guess I'll have to look elsewhere to see the rest of the all-conference team,as the OWH didn't post it. When the mens team is announced, they'll probably list the 1st through 3rd teams, with their favorite songs, quotes from coaches etc. What a sham. Imagine the coverage if NUs men had the freshman of the year that was also 1st team all conference.
