NIL was good in theory but was rolled out too quickly and with no real direction. That’s led to where we are today and it’s too tough to dial something like that back.  So now it’ll be about adapting where we are to what probably needs to happen.

Someone mentioned contracts and I think that’s a fair way to go with where we are at.  Making players sign multi-year contracts and having a penalty for breaking that contract would be fair for all parties. You could still offer one year contracts if you wanted to, but could also off more lucrative multi-year deals to ensure you keep someone around.

    So what's next--a salary cap?

We need to find a way to attack zones better than to try to have Juwan Gary dribble between closing defenders.

We need a freak athlete rebounder to take Josiah Allick's spot in the rotation.

I like Rienk Mast's assist numbers but it would be nice to have a starting PG who can lead us in assists so that Brice can move back to his more natural 2-guard spot. And he'd probably appreciate the opportunity to take C&S threes.

And I'd like another 6'6 athletic wing who can play lock-down D, attack the rim off the dribble, and shoot at least adequately from deep.

Anyone in the portal now that you'd take as the PG?

Agree on expectations. You see, I expected NU to win 21 games and 11 in the B1G. So, finishing top 4 was an expectation of mine.

It was an utterly fun experience all around. My 16 year old son and I went to every home game. My bro went to most, likely 90%. And my bro & I were in Memphis, too. It was a total blast, other than the final outcome. Keisei going off in those first few minutes of the game was simply ELECTRIC. And the team send-off from the Sheraton was AWESOME, too. I want to keep watchin' Tominaga, maybe I'll need to go to the 2024 Olympics to see KT!!!! GBR!!!!

Gotta find a way to watch Team Japan's games in the Olympics. There must be some streaming service available (maybe like for the World Cup?).

IMO, the Huskers did not play as badly as the score late in the 4th quarter might make it seem.  Defense played well enough to win.  There are always lots of factors, but the three that I think stand out are 3) shooting overall, three pt shooting in particular, and 3) blocked shots.  1) yes, the fade aways have seldom worked and AM could have passed off instead of taking some of the desperation shots, but a lot of quality open look shots didn't go.   2)  if three of the misses had gone thru, it's an even game.  3) Some of the blocked shots looked like sure scores ... right up until the block.

The game has become SO physical and the physicality is so inconsistently ignored vs foul called .. so much that teams have to have some players who want to be bangers and to have the mass to back it up  - and really we don't.  Had Mendelson been in the lane today - or against A&M - she would have been a bowling pin.

Loved having Jazz.  Just loved it. Too bad her last two games lacked the sparkle that she had become known for.

I think that, personnel wise, the Huskers will be marginally better next year* and markedly better if Amy can add a banger with some heft and/or a long fast slasher.

    * losing Shelly, Krull, and White while adding Weidner, Prince, and Williams and a year of development for Hake, Potts, and Nissley will be a net gain.

Maybe there will be more emphasis on adding dribble penetration to the offense and cutting down a bit on reliance on the three.

Adding Amiah Hargrove could be a big factor too.

It’s a guarantee that whoever replaces KT will be longer, stronger and more athletic. If CJ does indeed leave, the same could be said about that spot. It is imperative that we keep a certain level of basketball skill and IQ for Fred’s offense to work the way it should. Perusing other message boards this year, our offense was the envy of most big ten fan bases.

Wonder how soon Nick Janowski will be ready for the SG spot?

Was Dev Nelson still a sportscaster at WIBW in Topeka then? I remember his catch phrase was when he called a good play or close game a "double deep dish dilly". I don't believe it caught on with any other broadcaster.

Yes, and Max Falkenstien was the "voice of the Jayhawks" at that time--2 true legends. Dad and I actually talked to Falkenstien after an NU-KU game in Lincoln in the late '60s.

My first game in the Coliseum was the great Tom Baack, Grant Simmons, Willie Campbell, Nate Branch and Stuart Lantz team in 1966 against a Tex Winter coached Kansas St.  That Husker team would have been an NCAA Tourney team and would have won a tournament game but only conference champions qualified.  Kansas had JoJo White and Walt Wesley.  It was fun for a High School Freshman to witness. Texas Western was the champion in 1966.

My memory is kind of hazy, but I think that was my first game too! I was 8 years old.  K-State had 7 footer Nick Pino at the time. Dad and used to listen to K-State and Kansas games on radio (WIBW), as well as Nebraska games (KFAB). Smoking was allowed at games in those days, and I remember being bothered by all the smoke in the stands. Our family could only afford to go to one game a year, but Dad and I listened to or watched all the others without fail.

Does anyone know where you can find old Nebrasketball games to watch? Here's an example of UConn's archive library that is super great to be able to go and watch classic games whenever you'd like: https://www.uconnhuskygames.com/p/welcome.html

Thinking like in 2007 when Maric scored 41pts against K State, or when we beat in Creighton by 5 in 2010, and games like that.

On a related note, I'd like to find a place where you can purchase DVDs of old Nebrasketball games. For example, there are tons of DVDs of Husker football games available from Best of Big Red, but no basketball DVDs.
