Creighton fans / Jayskers have said that McDermott was trolling Nebraska fans. That doesn't really make any sense. Creighton fans have to be more bothered about McDermott wearing another team's gear and cheering for another team than Nebraska fans are. It doesn't bother me at all. I think it is awesome that he is cheating on Creighton with Northwestern. The same way that I thought it was awesome when Dana Altman cheated on Creighton with Arkansas when he went down and did their "WOOOOOOOO PIG SOOIE RAZORBACKS!" cheer at their press conference. I mean consider this... If Petteway were to leave Nebraska for the NBA after this season...And say he ends up with the Washington Wizards. If he were to be shown on the Big screen of a Georgetown vs Creighton bball game and he was wearing Georgetown gear and cheering for Georgetown... That would obviously sting Nebraska basketball fans more than it should sting Creighton basketball fans, because Nebraska fans are the ones with an emotional tie with Petteway because they spent years cheering for him. Seeing him in another team's gear and seeing him cheering for another team is like seeing your girlfriend out on a date with another guy. But I guess if it was some weak-sauce attempt by McDermott to troll Nebraska fans...maybe he is just jealous that more Nebraska Football fans made the trip for a road game over 8 hrs away in Chicago...than Creighton ever got for a home game at the Century Link center to watch him play for a mid-major basketball team. And yes, they are still a mid-major basketball team in a mid-major conference. Only having 1 team ranked in the top-25 is mid-major.

Excerpt:Jerry Meyer of 247Sports reported that Blakeney was under pressure from folks at Nike to at least look into other schools because the 6-foot-4 shooting guard plays for the Nike-affiliated AAU team Each One Teach One, and Louisville is one of adidas' flagship schools. "I don't play up shoe company angle in basketball recruiting but decommitment of Antonio Blakeney from Louisville is shoe company related," Meyer tweeted. "Nike infrastructure [and] those part of [and] affiliated helped Antonio Blakeney get where he is. Considered rash to commit after visiting one school." It's unclear which schools Blakeney will now visit, but it's a safe bet many of the programs originally involved in his recruitment will resurface as contenders. LSU, Missouri, Kentucky and Oregon — all Nike programs — are expected to be among the schools Blakeney considers. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/antonio-blakeney-s-commitment-to-louisville-proves-short-lived-124454903.html

Nice to see these parts of the article: PROGRAMS ON THE RISE: Nebraska: For the first time since 1998, the Cornhuskers danced last season. They’ll look to continue the basketball program’s resurgence in 2014-2015. In a conference where several tournament teams lost key contributors, Tim Miles brings back all-Big Ten first team members Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields. Early reports are positive for freshman floor general Tarin Smith, and Tai Webster spent his summer playing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup with New Zealand. PROGRAMS ON THE DECLINE: Creighton: It was a great debut for Creighton as a member of the Big East, winner of 14 conference games. A sophomore slump will likely be in store for Greg McDermott’s club after graduating four starters, most notably national player of the year Doug McDermott and his 3,150 career points. Austin Chatman leads the cast of returners, five of whom logged 10 or more minutes per game in the 2013-2014 season.

The new model also will allow the 65 schools within the five highest-resourced conferences the flexibility to make decisions for themselves in a specific list of areas intended to improve the student-athlete experience, including: Health and wellness. Meals and nutrition. Financial aid. Expenses and benefits for student-athletes. Expenses and benefits for prospective student-athletes. Insurance and career transition. Career pursuits. Time demands. Academic support. Recruiting. Personnel. Much of the model will be effective next year, though the 65 schools have begun developing their agenda for discussion at the 2015 NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. -

I see it differently. The B1G does enough to prop up NU's laurels. We don't need, and shouldn't want, CU and UNO to get good because it heightens recruiting battles locally when a good player does arise. I'd much rather have them be crappy and give us the upper hand with the better team, better conference, etc to coast to easy recruiting victories. I liken it to when KU, KSU, and Mizzou were crappy in football Nebraska cleaned up the stars in those states. When those teams got better we started losing out on some. With the limited talent already around NU for hoops you want to maximize your chances. Thats my take anyways. Having three teams that are competitive in their conferences and provide consistent opportunities to go to the dance is good for NU. It will raise the awareness of instate kids that basketball is a legitimate option, not just football (and to a lesser extent baseball) and hopefully from that you'll see more local talent emerge. More awareness, more opportunities, more exposure, more interest.Frankly, if Miles keeps building like it looks like he will, we'll be our own standard, it won't matter what Creighton or UNO do, but having three D1 teams that are competitive in the state isn't something that NU should discourage. In my opinion, Nebraska doesn't need that.If Nebraska is consistently competitive in the Big Ten (which is arguably the #1 basketball conference right now) and if Nebraska has consistent opportunities to go to the NCAA tournament...then that will raise the awareness of instate kids that basketball is a legitimate option (not just football). If you talk to high school coaches in the state (especially in the Omaha metro) they will tell you that Nebraska is already on the verge of an increase of high quality local talent. We are currently seeing more awareness of Nebraska basketball (both locally and nationally)...Nebraska's continued success under Tim Miles will lead to these high school kids realizing that tUNL is full of legit opportunities...Tim Miles has already started to generate MUCH more exposure and MUCH more interest (both locally and nationally). And I doubt that Nebraska's 3 biggest recruiting wins of this offseason (Andrew White III, Ed Morrow, and Glynn Watson) care how successful Creighton or UNO are. In my opinion, the only thing that matters for this Nebraska basketball program is growing the Nebrasketball brand both locally and nationally. theUniversityOfNebraska -

Take a guess.. who is next?!?!
Nebrasketballer replied to Section_316's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I'm hoping that Nebraska uses the last scholarship on a JUCO or transfer center that is eligible right away, so that Hammond has a little more time to develop before they have to rely on him to be the #1 guy. -
Both may be right. It seems that Tim Miles actually prefers to play 3 wing-type players + a point guard + center. There seems to be very little distinction between the 3spot and the 4spot in his offense...and I think the 2spot could be thrown into that mix as well.

I would think that Nebraska will get pretty involved with him now. ESPN ranks him as a 4-Star and the #13 Small Forward in the 2016 class. He has tweeted and retweeted most everything about Ed Morrow's commitment. He is another Simeon / Mac Irvin Fire prospect. https://twitter.com/benc_1/status/514082196584665088 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171097/ben-coupet

Brandon Walters -> Middle Tennessee State
Nebrasketballer replied to bball23's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I didn't mean to vote this down. I was just scrolling through this thread on my phone and accidentally hit the arrow. I figure Walters is probably a pretty high priority now that Nebraska has landed Morrow (maybe even Nebraska's #1 target since Baptiste is is committed).
