  1. Washington State's Bill Moos named next NU athletic director

    Quote

LINCOLN — Bill Moos, the current athletic director at Washington State, has been hired as Nebraska's next athletic director, Chancellor Ronnie Green announced Sunday.

Moos signed a five-year contract with Nebraska with a base salary of $1 million, plus incentives. Moos will officially begin his tenure with Nebraska on Oct. 23.

“Nebraska has secured a proven winner in Bill Moos to lead Husker Athletics into a new era of excellence,” Green said in a press release. “It was clear that Bill stood out in a very competitive, tremendously gifted pool of candidates, not only because of his proven ability to lead programs to greatness, but because of his reputation for integrity in building and leading those programs.”

I highly doubt it's that.  Would be best if people don't speculate and let her and her family have thier privacy.

I would strongly discourage speculation. Rumors can be very hurtful.  I may have more on this later.

  3. Let me just add something, Dlrrk; a quote from Row6Seat10, made earlier in July re: Predictions for this season's non-con record.

Now, I’m not saying Coach Williams needs to equal what Coach Yori did or do better and I’m not ready and probably won’t be for a while to make a win-loss prediction. But as I look at the somewhat easy non-conference schedule and what I think will be a down year in the B1G I at least see her going 500 or better her second year. That all depends on one thing though, we must keep Rachel Blackburn healthy all season. She is the backbone and leader of this team and it does no good with her riding bench.  She in my belief is the key to making this upcoming season a success.

The men's team's board is called "Haymarket Hardwood," not "Nebraska Men's Basketball."

I think the women's board should be renamed "Row 6, Seat 10."

Heartily Endorsed!  (I was thinking maybe something like "Brian's Forum' or 'Brian's WBB'  but I think Norm has a good take, maybe everyone will always take a look at 'the seat' when going to WBB games.)

Just to add a thought,  I'm so very glad FastBreaker expressed this sentiment in another thread; and that Row6Seat10 knows of the high regard we have for him.

As usual Row 6 nails it with as good a outlook as I have seen.  My wife and I were part of the core of 200. That's also when I first became a Fastbreaker board member.  Thanks Row 6 for all you do for this board.

Thanks for the kind remarks above guys they're appreciated. I actually think we have one of the top collegiate wbb message boards out there. There are some teams with none even in the B1G. I love to read what HB or Hud or Norm Petersen or anyone else who writes here, whether you agree or disagree, whether they have 2 posts or 15,000 posts to this forum, in my opinion everyone who contributes to our corner of the  cyber-world make this place great.

  5. Just to add the television/video availability to the schedule, here is a link to the WBB upcoming schedule on Huskers.com.

    http://www.huskers.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=100&SPID=25&SPSID=31

    UPDATE:

Twenty WBB games will be shown via video streaming from BTN Plus, which requires a subscription. Five games are shown on Broadcast TV (BTN) and two on ESPN3 (LIVE-streaming). Only the game vs San Jose St and the tournament in Daytona Beach have no video listed.
A BTN Plus subscription costs $9.99/month (for Nebraska only games).
(Subscribe at the beginning of Nov; cancel in Febr.  ;))

    -----------------------------------

There are 18 WBB games scheduled for TV-broadcast or live streaming this season (5 - BTN; 12 - BTN Plus; and 1 - ESPN3).  This far fewer than the 24 games televised/streamed last season.

All 16 conference games will be available on video, but there are still 12 games that have no video media shown, including high-visibility games vs; Clemson (ACC Challenge), Kansas, and Creighton.

I don't know what the TV arrangements/rights are, but I am hoping that some of the high-interest non-con games will be picked-up for telecasting yet this season.

A writer over on a Syracuse basketball message board seems to be an expert of sorts.  He writes a long piece to explain what's going on.  Here's an excerpt:

"In short, some coaches let kids get paid by agents and shoe companies, and other coaches actively participate in the process.
    . . .
I think that Syracuse is the kind of school that lets kids get paid by agents and NOT the kid of school that actively participates in the process. So those people saying "thank god Syracuse never pays its players" are missing the point. Syracuse players are still getting paid, its just that Syracuse coaches are not exploiting them or particularly benefiting from the fact that they get paid.
    . . .
The real worry, to me, is that lists of players who accepted money are going to come out, and some SU player will be on that list. The average non-die hard sports fan will not have a good enough understanding to differentiate between the teams who cheat in a way that gives them an unfair advantage like Duke and Kentucky, and the teams who just tassetly allow cheating to happen, like Syracuse.

Of course, if Syracuse goes down in this thing, so will most other schools. "

Maybe this writer is providing some insight for us on the Andrew White III situation?

I don't see the difference.  Regardless, the player gets paid - to come to your school (that doesn't mean he might not get paid more to go to another school).  It doesn't make any difference who is doing the paying, the school gets the benefit of the player going there.  As long as the school has knowledge that a player is getting paid, by whomever, or reason to suspect that a player may be getting paid to come to their school, the school is complicit.
  7. I'm not close to the WBB program in any way, geographically, demographically, or personal contacts; all I know is what I can read on the 'Boards, but I cannot envision any circumstances in which Yori returning could happen (even assuming she'd want to come back).

I look at it this way:  With our dismal record last year there is nowhere to go but up!  We still may not be very good this year (it will be difficult to replace the productivity of departing Jessica Shepard - 18.6 ppg & 9.8 rpg), But we do know that we will see five new faces on the floor playing for the Huskers this year that were not available last season;  Rachel Blackburn, transfers Bria Stallworth (13.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists freshman year @ UMass) and Janay Morton (13.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists pg Jr year @ Eastern Michigan), as well as highly-regarded incoming freshmen, Kate Cain and Taylor Kissinger (the 20th ranked incoming class in WBB by some accounts).

Lets also add to the above the four commitments so far for 2018-19; three- 4* and one-3* recruit(s),  Sam Haiby, Kayla Mershon, Ashtyn Veerbeek and Leigha Brown. My take-away from all this that Coach Amy is demonstrating her recruiting acumen.

Despite the dismal season last year, the team was characterized by 'Grit; No Quit,' in face of the disappointing losses. There is also the prospect of better Team Chemistry and coordination this year as the team becomes familiar with new Coach Amy Williams and her Assistants.  And let's not forget the high praise for Coach Amy and her staff by some of the returning players.

I do not see any way a new AD would even think about making another coaching change at this point in time.
