Actually, Arop and his coach burned bridges with us, for anyone who knows what really went down there.   And I doubt it ends up being a "bummer", unless he has Justin Patton like development.  Which happens like almost never.

John Calipari. I'm looking at you, you smug fucker. Prove you can recruit NBA lottery picks to Lincoln, and then I'll finally not think you're a complete douche. (Well, I will, but you'll be OUR complete douche.)

I strongly disagree that Petteway didn't care. Pitchford, agreed. TP was dealing with a dying mom.

    A.   I don't think there are mass transfers if we opt to fire and make a good hire to replace him.
    B.   I'm not saying that there is a mutiny a foot or that the team as a whole dislikes him, but I don't believe things are as close knit as they seem to want to be portrayed.

Agree with you that's what he will be known by.   Disagree with you that Bo wasn't an issue off the field.   Media hated him.  Fans hated him.  The audio tapes.  Lack of respect for the program.  Agree that had Bo won something people would have let some of that slide.   He didn't though.   You can act like Saban all you want...but you better win like him too.

To me its unknown which direction the program is moving.   You have to feel good about the recruiting side of things.   The 2015 season was obviously frustrating from a W/L perspective but we really werent any different of a team than we had been the prior few years.   A hail mary here and missed field goal there and we're the exact same time.   Combine that with the declining talent base (and positions where the talent was located), chemistry/buy in issues and overall bad luck and thats what you get.

Will agree with you that Riley needs to make sure these recruiting classes are legit because things ramp up here and expectations are high.   I think a few major issues from the last two years get corrected this year.....OL and QB.   A little concerned about playmaking ability in our front 7 though, but I do think the 3-4 fits some of our DEs abilities a bit better.

I think every AD is going to have different rules for his guy.

As far as a sports being better.  Men's hoops is an example that is trending downwards.   But if he steps in and makes a change to improve it, this board would rip him apart.  Seems to be a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

It all comes down to football and men's basketball for me.   I'm still intrigued with the Riley hire.   He's everything you want as a leader representing your program away from the field.  Remains to be seen how successful he'll be on it.   Want to see what he does with an actual QB and his guys.

My guess is SE would just assume have Miles win so he doesn't have to make a change.

No public support? What exactly are you looking for Eichorst to come out and say?  Also, in one sentence you say it's bad his "sniffing around practice" and in the next you say he's not visual enough around the coaches/team.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't type of deal?

"(Miles) has done a terrific job managing our program," Eichorst said.

Q: Let's switch gears to basketball. What do you want to see from the Nebraska men's team the rest of the season that would show you satisfactory progress?
Eichorst: "Continued growth. They've really worked hard. Tim (Miles) has worked his tail off. He's got a great group of assistants around him. I really like the nucleus — the young nucleus. Obviously, I think he would want them to be a little bit further along. But they've played a really good schedule up to this point. No one's making any excuses. We will never do that. I just think we want to see improvement."

Q: So, you gauge it by what you see?
Eichorst: "I think that's right. And I think we just need to have reasonable expectations around it, and support. We'll kind of dissect it all at the end. We're in the middle. The Big Ten's a formidable league. I know this: The effort's been there. The preparation's been there from what I've seen in practice. And we've had some guys dinged up. Again, there are no excuses there, but you have to take that into consideration as you look at the whole thing.
"I'm very, very optimistic about where we're at."

Q: Is there anything to read into you deciding not to extend Miles' contract after last season?
Eichorst: "It's a fair question. He doesn't read into it. I haven't read into it. I think Tim and I come from the same backgrounds. He comes from a small town, I come from a small town. He worked himself up through the ranks, I worked myself up through the ranks.
"We're not working for contracts. We're trying to do the right thing, and we're trying to be successful and represent the institution the right way. We know when all of that comes together we'll win ballgames. He's a winner. He's won every place he's been, and I'd like to think I've had success every place I've been. Tim and I see life the same way, and I think we see basketball the same way.
    "We'll just keep working hard."

Outside of the great state of Nebraska, it seems like people are consistently dumbfounded by Miles being on the hot seat.  This situation feels a lot more like Peterson firing Solich than Eichorst firing Pelini.  When Bo got the can, people understood why.  Bo's record alone was decent, but his childish antics and blowouts on primetime TV tainted the program's image.  So when he got fired, you could safely assume that we'd be able to easily hire a good coach to replace him.  With Solich though, only people associated with the program understood the firing (and even then there were a lot of dissenters).  100% of the comments I read or heard from national media and other coaches were in agreement at the time: Nebraska's expectations were WAY out of whack with reality.  And frankly, no one wants to take a job where the standard for success (a.k.a. the standard to remain employed) is unobtainable.

Yep. His status will be determined by what the football program does. Can't really blame him for Osborne's lackluster hires.

Here are a few things I jotted down while watching tonight.

Morrow needs to keep the ball high...in the last two games, bad things have happened when he has tried to dribble it after a rebound Half court shots to end a half can sometimes hurt intensity....the first couple minutes of the second half were important to see the team didn't relax Morrow was playing tight defense on 24 when the ball was on the opposite side three point line, not sure if that was intentional...during that play a drive to the basket Morrow as not able to provide help in time. McVeigh played help defense with both feet in the lane when the ball was two passes away and the ball was below the free throw line...Evans and Roby only had one foot in the lane...but none of the Three were near the middle of the lane....Interesting if this was by design to give them each an extra step to recover on a skip pass to protect against the 3 point shot Confidence...if you ever wondered what a difference it makes....Look at Jack McVeigh...He is a different player than he was 6 weeks ago.

I'm curious about the difference between when they would swipe at the ball and it would result in a turnover versus when we would swipe at the ball and it's a foul.  Isaiah Roby fouled out basically doing nothing any different then what Wisconsin was doing on the other  and of the floor all night long.

Also, can anyone explain Glynn's  third foul to me? The replay showed that he was standing alone in a ZIP Code different from where there was any sort of contact.

I won't go so far as to say that the calls favored us, but I do believe it was a pretty well called game.  They let the game flow, they let the game play out physically, but not brutally.

I don't mean to dwell on the negative, but I would say the "headache" has been for way longer than 17 years.   I've been a serious fan for over 50 years.  In that time we have won zero regular season conference titles, one conference tournament title (after which we lost to Penn in the first round of the NCAAs 4 days later), and ZERO NCAA tournament games.  The glorious meaningful victories have been few, and the painful dagger to the heart losses have been many.  It's true that the last 17 years have been worse from the standpoint of having more lower half of the conference, sub-.500 seasons than the previous 35 years, but getting over the hump and really making some noise has been missing forever.   And yet here we are.  So yeah, I'll commiserate with ya'all.

Going to just ask this. Did they double OT winner take too much out of us?

Glynn has not played all that well since and his jumper has been short.  Our free throws have also been short and don't short shots mean tired legs.

Now I know that it has been a while, they are young and they should be okay by now, but, since then some things that require legs have been lacking a bit.

Just something to thing about... then say Silvebacked1... your...a...pure...

I don't usually like to talk about the refereeing after games are over - but that was one of the worst games I can remember from a refereeing standpoint.  In the first half they swallowed their whistles on numerous obvious calls and then they completely lost control of the game in the 2nd.  Hard to blame the coaches for complaining at that game.  I have seen Jr High girls games that were better officiated than what we had last night.  (Actually that is probably an exaggeration as I don't go to Jr High girls games   - but I am confident the point is true).

Found this amusing.  The current official NCAA rpi has Garner Webb at #190 and Syracuse at #195.

    And we're at #48.

And isn't Tai Webster basically doing what the NBA scouts told Andrew White he needed to be able to prove he could do?  If you're so great, why isn't your team any better?  Andrew White's solution is to try to find a better team; Tai Webster's solution is to make his team better.

Almost deserves its own thread, but has anyone ever seen anyone play better defense with 4 fouls as Webster did considering the caliber of player he was checking.  That won us the ballgame.

He didn't have his best game but I like his gunslinger mentality.  We need someone like that on our team.  I am a diehard Pacer fan and for some reason Horne reminds me just a little bit of the rifleman Chuck Person.
