Yep.  I got there before you though; I had made my peace with whatever happened before the game even started today.  When you step back and look at it today was absolutely the definition of gravy.  And we really looked like we belonged there.

It's mind boggling to me to think we were playing for seeding in the dance today.  At the beginning of the season I was going to be happy with an NIT berth.

Had a chance to listen to the game rather than watch, so I don't have a lot to say about the officiating. But...make the free throws and wide open looks, the officiating becomes a whole lot less important.

On another note, it had been quite a while since I listened to a game. It was the most "homer" broadcast I think I've ever heard - and I loved every second of it! KP is an absolute treasure! 😂

OK, guys, y'all need to re-up your prescription for Lithium. Get rid of the high highs and the low lows.

I mean, this was just one game. Let me repeat that: Just. One. Game.

It's gonna be a slog of a season and every conference opponent is really good. Every single one. And we don't have any more talent on this roster than we did when we lost to Memphis.

So, I mean, slow your roll just a little ...

9-4 over the last 13? No. I did not realize that. That's pretty impressive actually.

Anyway, I don't want you guys to get too carried ...

Three straight wins against ranked teams? Is that some kind of record? It is? Whoa. That's pretty wild.

Still, I would just caution ...

Fred has two of our five all-time wins against ranked teams on the road? What the actual fuck? Are you serious?

Holy shit! I had no idea.

Um, I mean, try to temper your expectations because ...

Jesus Christ Northwestern beat Michigan State on the road last night?!

    Um

Can we at least keep the "bubble watch" discussion to a minimum until after we beat Iowa on December 29?

    Thanks

Boy, I've heard the same "rumor" from multiple people about what Matt's issue was that gave him health problems. And it's been my understanding for awhile that he would be gone at the end of the season, so this was no surprise to me at all.

I can't really say what I've been told because I don't want to get anyone in trouble. But let me just say that if you have a weak stomach, you probably shouldn't eat a lot of spicy food, maybe, or do things that would invite a lot of stress into your life.

And if you DO do things that would invite a lot of stress into your life and you're not sure how to handle it, consult with an expert in the area like @royalfan who would perhaps be able to give you great advice, like start small, don't make it habitual, set the family's milk money aside, stuff like that.

Good luck to Matt's next program.

Isn't he also our only coach in the last 22 years who beat the eastern Nebraskans more than once? That counts for something.

Might be worthwhile mentioning that Doc had the highest winning percentage of any men's Nebraska basketball head coach in the last 22 years.

Hmm.  I wish all coaches and players well.  And if Frost made the decision to bring him back in a subservient position, I would support it.
Doc had a great coaching pedigree and knew his X's and O's.  His issue was his reluctance to sell his soul to AAU programs and as result struggled to secure top line talent.  But given that talent issue, he could out coach many of his peers.

I think there were/are many husker fans that have no hard feelings with Riley. I have no ill will towards Riley at all. The guy that hired Riley on the other hand...

What made Doc Sadler likable for me was his press conference after getting fired, I believe that was 2011, my senior year of high school. Maybe he's just an emotional guy, but he came across as someone who genuinely cared about the job and the program. Ever since then I have had a very high opinion of him. Funny enough, that same year, I competed against his son Landon numerous times in debate, I believe he went to Lincoln Southwest. Very smart and outspoken opponent.

I had the chance to meet Doc at the Mall of America in 2020 right before everything was shut down and it reaffirmed my opinion of him. Very kind, down to earth guy. Just my perception of him.

He built a career in Division 1, did it with integrity, was a good ambassador for the university/players/people, and left with respect.

    Wish him all the best.

Serious question. What exactly did he do for the program besides get paid millions to coach a sub .500 team for roughly 10 years?

I knew this was likely, and I am likely in the minority, but this makes me more than a bit sad. Good luck Doc and thank you so much for your time, effort, approachability and expertise.

Road games are awesome. You can go see some cool cities for a fraction of the cost if going to an away football game.

I try to go to one every year or so. This year we decided to pass because how bad we had been doing.

HHC should pick a road game each year to go to (preferably iowa, NW or other drivable cities)

Actually, yes. Yes I do. I do blame him for the pregame warm-ups.

And I'm not just saying that to attack Matt. In fact, I'm only saying it because you asked.

Fred only wants to coach. He's turned the responsibility of assembling a roster to Matt A. In terms of culture and discipline, Fred stays out of it and has left that to Matt A as well. None of the other assistants has any authority, really, to step in, because these are Matt's guys.

I will not tell you how I came by this information, and if you choose not to believe it, I don't care. Matt A is not a good dude. Off the floor, Matt A is not a good dude. The sooner he departs this program, the better for Nebrasketball.

And, let me just add for those who continue to want to blame Doc for this year's defense: Last year, Doc Sadler was an assistant coach with actual coaching responsibilities. There's even film of him running practices. Last year, we had a top 40 defense. This year, Doc no longer has an assistant coaching role, has zero coaching responsibilities, and our defense sucks. This is NOT a coincidence and I wish people would quit blaming Doc Sadler for our defensive woes this year.

It's remarkable to me that the people who want to hold Doc Sadler responsible for something he doesn't really have anything to do with are so willing to forgive Matt A's failures for things he is directly responsible for.

I'm happy we got the W.

At times, things were clicking and we were hitting on all cylinders.

We were very fortunate that Minnesota played poorly and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the first half.

Defense looked pretty solid for the most part.

How many fricking layups can a team miss?

How many freethrows can a team miss?

Last night, we attempted to find out.

And the really positive side, I saw a couple of long-time HHC posters at the game last night who don't post much any more. But it was nice to see them. That's what happens when you slide down into the lower bowl, apparently.

Since Jan 1st, Derrick has doubled his shooting rate.

Prior to that time, we shot 27.5% from 3
After that, we've shot 36.6% from 3, all against B1G opponents.

I'd theorize we've had more of a shot selection issue than shooter issue this season among our myriad of other issues.

I have to stick up for Doc here.

As many of you know, when Doc was head coach, I used to attend a lot of the practices that were open to the public.

When it was his team and he was calling the shots, he preached and coached and taught and instilled that you go over the top of all ball screens so that you don't give up open threes. It's why he also drilled his bigs on the importance of hedging screens and recovering.

I recall Doc teams that were under-talented. I recall Doc teams that weren't great. But I don't recall Doc teams that looked like discombobulated shit on the regular.

I don't think this is on Doc.

He was very good in last Friday's scrimmage. He was second leading scorer behind Quaran. White just  barely beat the Red. The teams weren't evenly split either. Red had most people's projected top 8. This is a very deep team. Can't wait for tomorrow night.
