  1. Last year it is Brandon Ubel defending. Huge difference. He was taught how the do it properly for the 3 years prior. I think the reason we were so good on defense last year was most of those players had th proper defensive mentality instilled in them. They didn't know any other way that play defense. I agree that there is a lack of communication on defense but I can't seem to find any consistency to what our philosophy is. Do we cut off the base line or do we funnel the penetration to the baseline? I honestly can't tell. That is one of the foundations of your defensive philosophy. We have zero consistency in how we play the pick and role. There basically 3 distinct ways to play it. Typically most teams will scout and practice two of them so that adjustments can be made in game. I am still not sure if our guys are just not the executing them properly or what. I can't tell from what I am seeing on the floor during games. That concerns me. But I'm a defense guy so maybe I'm being overly critical.
  2. I really think we were spoiled from a defensive stand point with Doc. Very few teams defended like we did under him. I went to 10+ practices a year and I don't recall many were the pick and role or cutting off the base line weren't worked on. Since I can't go to practice anymore I'm not real sure what our defensive philosophy is regarding those and I'm having a hard time seeing what it is we are trying to do during the games except playing poor defense.
  3. Good to know. I'll swing by in person to verify and to see which TVs they plan on using. They have had Nebraska baseball games streaming down there before, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue for us to do that. I am definitely in if they will let us do that.
  4. Just to pull this conversation back to the OP. I want to add something about character. I know Petteway has been working his butt off everyday already this summer. His parents wanted him to come home for a few weeks, and the coaches even said he should take a break. Guess what...... he won't go home so he can stay here and not get lazy on mom's cooking. He is also constantly on the other guys about workouts. The coaches love his attitude. He has great parents who would expect nothing less from him. Good kid. Glad we have him on our team.
  5. Sold HB, I will even let you sit next to me and I'll buy you a beer every so often once they start serving it.
  6. This whole recruiting board thing is throwing me for a loop. Sorry guys.
  7. RobinWashut Don't be surprised if #Nebrasketball seriously looks into 6-8 PF Josh Davis, who is expected to transfer from Tulane. http://t.co/SSDwcr3i8W Anyone else hearing anything about this. I had heard some hints that the staff was looking in the direction of transfers, but this is the first thing I have heard of it in the media. This would be a huge pickup.
  8. I saw Sek throw the ball at Standhardinger's head one day in practice. Christian gave Ubel's jewels a more than playful tap during a scrimmage and Sek went after him and had to be pulled back. Doc threw Christian out of practice for it. Needless to say, it was one of the more exciting days of watching practice and something I wasn't sure I could post here at the time. I sure it is ok now.
  9. From what I know I think he wants to wait a year or two and raise his profile some, but I agree that he will be looking and could be a hot commodity if we start winning.
  10. I said this in another thread but Benny, Petteway, and Shields have all gotten an apartmen together for next year. I believe he wants to stay, unlss the coaches talk to him about leaving.
  11. Benny, Petteway, and Shields have all gotten an apartment together for next year. i think he is committed to staying.
  12. Ray could always shoot the ball lights out in practice and was encouraged by Doc to do so, but he would load up his pants in games so to speak.
