Since many of us are music fans, I thought this was interesting.  I will save you the clicking time and our guy's favorite band is Queen.  Looks like he has good music taste as well as coaching cred.

You may have asked: "How much more could I hate Creighton?"

Greggie provides the rum-soaked, out-of-tune answer.

So much about my 1st game I DON'T remember. I do know I was not 10 yet so it should have been 67-68. It was a game late in the season vs Kansas at the Coliseum. I DO remember it was with my Dad so that automatically made it special. I remember we won and how excited Dad was to beat Kansas. And I remember being told what a good player we had in Stu Lantz.

Sports Reference says we beat Kansas 76-69 on Feb. 27, 1968 in the Coliseum.

    Winner!

  3. I watched my first on Dec. 18, 1970, in the Coliseum, versus Miami (Fla.) in a tournament, probably called the Cornhusker Classic.

The Huskers, behind 20 points from Marvelous Marvin Stewart and 12 rebounds by Leapin' Leroy Chalk, defeated the Hurricanes 85-58.

Ironically, I covered the Huskers for The DN in the early '80s, and I covered the Hurricanes in 1987-88.

That 1970-71 season was Miami's last until the university revived the program in 1985.

I’m at a fundraiser so very distracted. But we purchased session 2 tickets. Is that our game? Houston first session?

Times will be announced later. Nebraska-Texas A&M and Houston-Longwood will be in the same session. New Mexico-Clemson and Baylor-Colgate will be the other session's games Friday in Memphis.

My brain is telling me that typically the one seed gets the earlier of the two game session.  Could be a made up thing in my mind though.

The game times are determined by the television partners. They generally space out the top teams in terms of potential audience in order to max out ratings throughout the day.

For example, in the 2023 tournament, both No. 1 Kansas and No. 1 Alabama played in the 2-5 p.m. ET window on Thursday, while No. 1 Houston played after 9 p.m. that night. Kansas played the first game of that two-game session, but Alabama played the second. Houston also played the final game of its session.

The fourth No. 1, Purdue, played at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, the first game of the session. In other words, the 2023 top seeds:

    1. Kansas played the first game in an afternoon session.

    1. Alabama played the second game in an afternoon session.

    1. Purdue played the first game in an evening session.

    1. Houston played the second game in an evening session.

    Oh wow

    Another note on that season:

Phog Allen's worst team was in 1949, while the Huskers had one of their best under Harry Good. Future major leaguer Bob Cerv played for the Huskers. Cluade Retherford and Milt "Bus" Whitehead were all-Big Seven for the Huskers. Also, lots of bad shooting and not a lot of patience pre-shot clock.

  7. What a grand tradition of hairstyles for Illinois basketball coaches.

It started with the "Lou 'Do," the ultimate combover that fooled nobody, especially Lou Henson's wife.

They followed that with Lon Kruger's '90s TV evangelist style.

Up next, of course, was @billselfstoupee in its earliest manifestations.

Next, silver-helmeted Bruce Weber and the utterly bald Jon Groce graced the sidelines.

Today, we're left with Just for Men Named Brad Underwood's dye job.

To the Illini and their magnificent coaching coifs! Hurray.

  8. Because the topic has been broached: Our personal NCAA tournament histories.

    • As a high school senior, I attended the 1980 regional in Lincoln, and saw both Missouri and Louisville (over K-State) win.
    • As a senior at UNL, I attended the 1984 regional first round. Kansas and Illinois State won one-point games against Alcorn State and Alabama.
    • As the University of Miami beat reporter for the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, I was able to choose which sub-regionals and regional to attend, so
      • I covered the first two rounds in Atlanta, where Oklahoma and Louisville emerged.
      • I covered the East Regional in New Jersey, where Duke beat Rhode Island and Temple.
      • I covered the Final Four in KC, when KU and OU went off for 100 points in the first half before KU pulled away for the national title.
    • The next season I was the Sun-Sentinel's U of Florida beat writer, so
      • I watched CSU upset the scandal-ridden Gators in the first round in Dallas. After the game, I saw Alex Chilton perform at a club in Deep Ellum.
      • I skipped the regionals that year and headed straight to Seattle for the Final Four, where Michigan beat Illinois in the second consecutive single-conference final.

I haven't been back to an NCAA Tournament men's game.
