Gotta love this Tim Miles comedy from the article:
“When we do team-group work, we’ll work on specialty things, like whether there are new things on the screen-and-roll or post defense. Maybe we’ll try a tricky thing on offense, like throwing it inside on occasion so we aren’t surprised to try it during the season.’’

I hear ya. It is a bad time to be slow at the office. During the season I would spend all kinds of time on here. Now I spend all kinds of time popping in to see if anything new has been posted. I'm running out of work friendly internet to look at.

My, aren't we picky these days. A four-star with Rivals 51 and ESPN 48 national rankings, with many high-major offers, with official visits to Louisville, Texas and West Virginia, and a commitment to Kansas--plus current interest from high level programs! Yeah, it's obvious why we would be skeptical of his potential because some anonymous poster(s) from Kansas questioned his foot speed after his departure announcement. Yeah. That's the ticket.
Actually, Andrew White appears to be a quintessential Tim Miles recruit: high work ethic and effort, high character, academically smart, excellent citizen and representative of the program, along with excellent athleticism and high basketball skills. Sounds like a knock-it-out-of-the park possibility for Nebrasketball.
Also, Huskerville appears to offer a great opportunity to Mr. White: he plays a position of need here, and the Tim Miles track record for high-production from transfers is abundantly apparent.

I understand people being disapointed but I disagree with the offseason being a disapointment. We've upgraded our roster with solid palyers. They aren't big named blockbusters but no one on our roster was when they came in. Except maybe Tai and that might have been partly our fault for throwing so much hype on the poor kid.

That's what I was saying. You have every right to not be pleased with how things have gone since the season ended. But saying the offseason was a disapointment is a leap in my book. We missed out on some guys yes, but its because of last season that we were even in the discussion.

Additionally, I'm not saying you said it was a disapointment. If it wasn't you I'm sorry I made it sound like you did. I don't remember who said it. I was speaking in broad terms.

Lets just be clear about UNLV.  Some of their recent recruits:

    2014:
    G Rashad Vaughn - Rivals 5-stars (#8 overall)
    F Dwayne Morgan - Rivals 5-stars (#15 overall)
    C Goodluck Okonoboh - Rivals 4-stars (#31 overall)

    2013:
    G Jelan Kendrick - Rivals 4-stars (JUCO)
    F Christian Wood - Rivals 4-stars (#40 overall)

    2012:
    F Anthony Bennett - Rivals 5-stars (#7 overall)
    G Katin Reinhardt - Rivals 4-stars (#38 overall)
    F Savon Goodman - Rivals 4-stars (#72 overall)

These guys have recruited 7 players ranked among the top-75 NATIONALLY over the last three seasons.  They aren't beating the likes of Nebraska and Wake Forest for those dudes.  They are beating Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Kansas, UConn, Kentucky, Arizona, etc.  How are they doing it?  I don't know, and it doesn't matter...but the fact remains that if they can out-recruit absolute blue blood programs for guys, clearly they have something pretty compelling going for them.  Should we really be surprised that a kid they tell "hey, we'll make room for you" would want to jump on that?

I get all the turnover and transfers and yada yada yada...but guys who literally can go anywhere in the country are choosing to play at UNLV.

I don't think if Cornish in fact picks the Rebels we should tear the kid down (I do hate his twitter behavior though, but I digress) like he made a dumb or ill-informed decision.

All we can do is sell a kid on our strengths, and hope that's enough. UNLV is kind of a gorilla in the recruiting game.

But if you read any of the UNLV fans tweets you would think that they won the NCAA last year. The one guy even told Cornish to come here because they raise banners. Ooooookaaaayyyyyy.
We will be fine, we already have some guys signed this year that on paper might not be what we think we need, but they will keep, this program from dropping and will only help to build.
The other two Deng and Cornish would just be cherries on top. We just aren't "there" yet with the "it" players but we will be. We will be.

It's down? Compared to what? So because following basketball recruiting is a thing around here now and because we hear about all the basketball recruits...we hear about all the misses, right?
    So far we've closed on:
    Hammond
    Tarin Smith
    Moses Ayegba
What is our closing percentage and what is a good one? I guess it will go up whenever the next one decides to commit.

I dont follow a player until they commit because there's always a bunch of garbage on there but after all the talk about him I checked it out.  I really cant understand why he would retweet so many UNLV things while hes still on his visit to Nebraska.  I mean thats complete disrespect to a school thats hosting you.  Do it on your trip there but c'mon man.  I wasn't sold from the beginning and the more I see the less I want to see him.  Would gladly take him but to me he has a lot of growing up yet to do.

“You save that baggage for you. Don’t put that crap on me. This is my program. We don’t carry any baggage. Everywhere we’ve been, I’ve been surrounded by great people and we win. We’re going to keep doing it. All that curse crap, all the hexing and vexing and all that bullshit that goes with it is exactly that. You can print it, because I ignore that." - Tim Miles quote that wasn't about the "HHC 20 page curse" but sure could have been.

No water.  That's the only thing that saves them from kudzu.  Otherwise, they'd be crawling in it.

In fairness, there are some nice things about Vegas.  They have a lot of good looking women there.  Of course, most of them are hookers, but ... that's OK.  You might get lucky and find one that doesn't have the clap.  Or that doesn't have a pimp connected to the Russian mafia.  Those Russian mobsters, they'd just as soon kill ya as look at ya.

But everyone I've ever talked to has come home from there with more money than they went there with, which is why the casinos are drying up and dying like shriveled pumpkins on the vine.   Pumpkins that don't get any water.  Water.  Like what they're running out of in Vegas.

Assuming Cookie is liking this thread because it has stayed civil (when it easily could have gotten nasty) with posters offering respectful perspectives, I can see why one would enjoy this discussion.

That being said, I agree with the crux of Swan's postions of "Why are we even having this conversation?"  and "Will anyone ever be satisfied with Miles?"

In the last few months, the Nebrasketball expectations have morphed into seemingly unrealistic expectations by a vocal "Win NOW and I don't care about yesterday" crowd who shove allegedly empiric examples in front of us as evidence of dire straights.  Let's take ISU.  In the last 20 years (and I am using 20 years only because we are dealing with 18-20 year old recruits), ISU has had:

4 conference championships (regular season or tournament or both)     Nebraska has 1 in the same period
9 NCAA Tournament appearances with a 12-9 record and an average 5 seed Nebraska has 3 with an 0-3 record
10 NBA draft picks 6 in the first round; 5 of which came within the last 10 years. Nebraska has 3 and none in the last 10 years
4 first and second team All-Americans.  Nebraska has 3 with 0 in the last 10 years

ISU is just not a good comparison.  At least ISU has some history and made it into the Sweet 16 this season as well in addition to a conference championship to boot.

Finally, we all want Nebrasketball to improve.  I have faith it will happen, but not on the time table some are advocating.  Be patient.  Give Miles at least another 1-2 years before attacking his recruiting.

Transfers, especially one year guys, want to play and play now.  Tell me what guy, from the outside, sees themselves playing over Walt, Terran, or Shavon.  All thats left is the center and point guard position.  The centers that we heard NU in on went to bigger and more prosperous schools.  Point guard there really doesnt seem to be a huge need there but also not a big market of them out there.

One thing to also remember, just because BR and RW report things, it doesnt mean Miles and staff werent on top of other guys but they simply had no interest.  NU is still a new commodity on the circuit and doesnt hold the same weight.  I'd assume Walt wouldnt be at Nebraska if he played more and better as a freshman.  If Miles didnt have the relationship with terran I doubt we get him.  The relationships will be built, the connections will grow, and as they continue to build a winning tradition you will start to see more activity with transfers and recruits respectively.

This seems a lot like a "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" kind of scenario.

We're still Nebraska Basketball. We need to sustain success before mid to high star talent is going to be beating down our door.

But it will give me something to read while I'm pretending to work so have at it.
