  1. I just wanted to thank all the posters that have been here for years. You have made this a fabulous website. Way to go, guys! My lack of posting here over the last 18 months has nothing to do about anything political. I have given up following sports. There are more important things in life. Many here have supported my son Seth's battle with MDS with money and prayers over the last several years. Here's an update: Seth and Mrs. cip have been at Mayo since May 15. Seth had his blood marrow transplant last Thursday. So far, so good. If everything proceeds well, they will be back home t

  2. Remember when Nebraska won 22 games and we were hoping to sneak in to the tournament only to see us get a terrible seed in the NIT? Check out the NCAA baseball tournament. Huskers in Arkansas' regional, are you kidding me! That makes us the lowest seeded two seed.

My philosophy is I don’t follow high school kids on social media. I deal with them enough in the classroom. I don’t need that in my personal life (outside of my own children).

  5. All I can add is my personal experience. I tore the meniscus in my left knee in the 7th grade in an (ill-advised) attempt to play football. Our town was so far in the boondocks that an orthopod only visited every other month so the swelling and pain had subsided by the time he arrived. My parents opted to pass on the surgery which he recommended so every year the knee would spontaneously collapse once or twice and I would limp around on a grapefruit sized joint for a week or so. I broke my left arm during one of the falls. Anyway, the knee was stable enough to let me play basketball and start

Thunder trading Al Horford to Boston for Kemba Walker. Some draft picks also involved. And Moses Brown. You'd have to think Isaiah features prominently in the Thunder's future plans if they're trading Horford and Brown for a guard and a draft pick.

The ironic thing is his best shot for the NBA is also what would get him on the floor and starting for us. If he corrects those deficiencies and proves it on the floor this coming season, he's a high-end draft pick in 2022. So, go get that analysis, find out what they say you need to be able to do, and show that you can do it. I have a feeling the breakdown is going to sound something like "needs to show NBA range on his jumper, needs improved handles, needs improved quickness, needs to finish better at the rim, needs to hit freethrows at a higher rate." If he can do those things,

When we got a visit under Tim Miles from that 5 Star Center from Chicago, Okafor, I felt like that was just as a courtesy to Chin Coleman due to the Chicago Simeon connection and Mac Irvin fire, and also because he wanted to check out our new facilities. This feels like they’re visiting because they actually have legitimate interest. Now whether that turns into a commitment or not is yet to be seen. But Okafor was never seriously considering us; these players apparently are.

  17. *Says Hoiberg's biggest strength, over his Xs and Os, recruiting, etc... is that he can make any player feel like they're a god and over perform their natural capabilities. *Abdelmassih also tested positive for COVID in January, still not 100%, still doesn't have taste or smell. (sure he hope he gets some help here soon?) *Not trying to make excuses, but COVID was the worst thing that could have happened to this team. He feels he puts so much time into creating relationships with these kids, that when he couldn't meet with them in the offices, or hang out with them, he fel

  22. I'd say its a mix of talent and development. Several of the upperclassmen took big jumps offensively. Then you bring in guys like Everett & Matthews (& Anderson, which required a bit of good fortune). The previous staff was always pretty good at bringing in offensive talent, but Bolt & Co definitely maxed out the holdovers for the most part. The two areas where Bolt & Co have upped things are in terms of pitching talent & emphasizing local kids. The pitching staff needed it badly, so quite a few of the major contributors this year are new players. Most of the ev

Kopps is a freak and was by far the difference in the series. 11 1/3 innings vs us with 0 runs allowed - we scratched out 8 runs against the other guys in 14 2/3. That dude could've thrown 200 more pitches tonight & I don't think it would've mattered. And we all know DVH would've let him. I'll always appreciate DVH and what he did here, but he's not the most careful guy when it comes to taking care of pitchers in the postseason. Having said that, I'm not sure it matters for Kopps. His motion is so free and easy & he rarely has to throw stressful pitches. I don't know what he was like

You know, I got to thinking last night that it probably wasn't a coincidence that this man arrived on campus yesterday: I'm sure you want to have your 5* guy there for all the recruits to meet. (Although, I suppose chances are they all know each other already )

  28. Hoiberg was a proven commodity at time of hire and Frost was not. Hoiberg's recruiting is trending upward while Frost's level of recruiting still seems kind of TBD. Basketball is easier to turn around due to the smaller roster. For all these reasons, I vote HCFH. Full disclosure: I was never sold on Frost as a "can't miss hire." He inherited great players and a great system at Oregon. He was handed the keys to a Maserati and didn't crash it. That is more than a lot of coaches do, but not something that screams "elite offensive mind" to me. Then he landed a fantastic job for a

    2021 Baseball

Not to nitpick, the B1G hasn't been a 1-to-3, let alone 1-to-2, bid league for several years. That's old thinking. And the bids have been spread around the league to a large number of different teams. The quality of play in the B1G since NU joined the league has increased tremendously. (Not claiming that NU is responsible for that - it's probably more related to tons of money from football needing to be spent somewhere - but having a school that cares about baseball like NU join the league and moving the league tournament to the home of the CWS hasn't hurt.) 2019 - 5 bi

High character. Wants to be the type of player, that when he returns to pinnacle Bank Arena during his NBA career he gets a standing ovation. (Chills) *Japanese Steph Curry - unfair to do the comparison game, but man can he shoot the ball. Has had guys who are really experienced in recruiting say that he is one of the best shooters that he’s ever seen when evaluating. His strongest asset as a pla

Pure shooting stroke, professional attitude and work ethic, off to a better start than they could've hoped in the first few days. Not sure how truly dialed in Sip is to the hoops program, but I'm choosing to take all of his statements as gospel because I want to.

I think the the next wave of MLS is starting right now with Omaha Union and my local FC Tucson building a true local tier of the soccer pyramid with their own supporters groups and with players like Tucson's Long and Toia, moving up to MLS. I know promotion and relegation are Euro traditions that the economics of MLS are not prepared for, but I suspect that when USL 2, USL 1, and USL Championship mature, they may move to having some form of it the only questions are will ther
