What about a team with two point guards?

The connection to note for Eli Rice to Penn St is that Rice was heavily recruited by VCU who at the time was coached by now Penn St coach Mike Rhodes.

  3. Tominaga shouldn't be listed as he is out of eligibility, whereas Rice made a choice and I wish him the best of luck at PSU. As for Rice over Griffiths, I have to disagree there as GG's ceiling is a lot higher than ER's IMO. He has a better overall skill set, can defend multiple positions and has better length. He was pretty impressive at times in our game at home against Rutgers, especially when he was matched up with Gary. Blocked Gary's shot twice when he tried to take him to the bucket, rebounded over Williams down low and drew a foul and scored over a taller defender taking the ball to the basket making a difficult finish look easy. I think we really got a good one.

  4. I wouldn’t necessarily call a multiple year starting PG at Utah, a former top 25 SG, and a big man who we beat another B1G team (who was closer to home than us) underwhelming. Especially when we’ve basically upgraded/equaled out each position we’ve lost. Lawrence - Woosley Diop/Keita - Morgan Rice/Tominaga - Griffiths and we still have 3 ships to fill.

If you can get PGs that can hit 3s or post players that can hit threes, great. However at some point it's important to value defending and rebounding as well given they're factors to winning. As long as Fred has self-starting guys, he's more than capable of adjusting his gameplan.

  7. Griffiths reminds me of former Terp Kevin Huerter. And that's meant as a compliment.

  12. Nick Kern and Zach Hicks are both similar in stature to Eli but they are tenacious defenders and they play exactly the way Mike Rhoades wants to play. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Eli in the portal again next year.

I like tying it to academic standing, just to keep it loosely related to being a college sport still.

  16. 1. William Kyle III 2. William Kyle III 3. William Kyle III 4. William Kyle III If saying the same name 3 times doesn't improve the odds of landing him, then I'll go with this: 1. William Kyle III 2. Igor Milicic (I'm assuming Mast is out next year) 3. A big time shooter who knows his role. 4. Matar Diop . . . more specifically a big athletic project who doesn't expect minutes and can give you a good look on the scout team. (I'm assuming this player will transfer out no matter what unless you catch lightning in a bottle) * I thought about getting a lock-down defender, but I'm thinking our defense will take a big jump just because we are adding a lot more length and athleticism to the scheme.

Not sure if #30 will be in the rafters, but I can't wait for the day when he comes back to be recognized 20 years from now and we get to all go bananas again.

  23. I suppose we know this for sure if Mast is actually here, able to play. But it's doubtful he'll play. The knee is a big problem and wasn't fixed by the December procedure. Props to him for persisting and finishing the season. I doubt we make the dance if he would have ended it mid-season. I think the plan is for surgery, and the type that has him out 10-12 months. He has a great doc, through Fred's connections. But barring a surprise, you won't see him on court next fall.

Looks like a moot point but you change what you do a little bit for guys like him. You don’t turn down physical monsters just because he doesn’t space the court great.

Biggest Fear #204748- We get torched by a former player in a game that matters. Best of luck to Eli. Hope he finds a solid role and scores 15 PPG except against us.

The cost of bling! Great players come at a great monetary cost. But there can also be a cost relating to team commraderie and chemistry. Player A may have a lot of talent and wants to be the main dude and get the highest number of shots; but it could isolate that player from the remainder of the team...and what you get, is what we had, the first couple years under Fred. So it becomes a high pressure, highly important balancing act when we are building the team via the portal. We seem to be getting the right type of players as we build our roster. But if certain players want certain $$$ or guarantees, I assume they are advised to move on. So when I see a player we seemed to want, move on to greener pastures, my initial reaction is angst. It then dawns on me that perhaps the coaches and administration likely are fully vetting the potential roster invitee, and perhaps decided independently or mutually, that Player A best play elsewhere.

  33. I hope NU can still snag an athletic wing player as well as another big... maybe Milicic and/or WK-III would fit, even both of 'em, as NU needs to shore up the interior and athleticism factors going into a 18-team Big Ten. It will be BRUTAL to face, so as many big dawgs will help the cause at securing that elusive M.M. victory, hopefully in Wichita, KS, in 2025 !!

  34. Both Hausen and essegian would be filling a movement shooter role that departed with CJ and Keisei. Very comparable and honestly it's a toothpick difference. Personally like Hausen quite a bit. He has some *shit* to his game I think. And I mean good shit. As far as janowskis role, beat one of those two OR ulis out for minutes. Ie, be rollies sub and trade off initiating offensive sets with Brice. He's going to be hard to keep out of the rotation though. I've said that for a while, and I'll continue to say that.

It's 100% Craytin in my books. Living in Omaha around Craytin fans is bad enough. I hate the fact they've been able to rub in our faces the last couple years how many "Nebraska guys" they have on their roster. This would be sickening. I'm hoping Josiah Dotzler told them how it's not so much fun on Coach McD's "farm". (Except we all know McD uses a different word for "farm".)

  42. NCAA already ruled on this in November. I don't think there is any doubt that Ulis is eligible to play this upcoming season. “Effective immediately, reinstatement guidelines for student-athletes who wager on teams at their school — excluding their own team — will start at requiring one season of ineligibility and a loss of one year of eligibility…” the DI council stated in a press release. “Previous guidelines, as approved in June, prescribed permanent ineligibility for those cases. The adjusted guidelines may be applied to cases in which student-athletes are currently serving suspensions related to wagering on a different team at their own school that were reported on or after May 2, 2023.”
