  1. Welp. Decent effort, and certainly not the result we wanted. Thank you ladies!

  2. The fact that we have invested so much makes it sting even more. We have an amazing arena and practice facility. We have a fan base that sells out the arena. Bramlage is a dump compared to the PBA. We erected practice facilities at a similar time and by all accounts Hendricks is far superior to Ice. The expectations clearly aren’t that difficult here. We retained a 40-83 coach with a .228 conference winning percentage and it wasn’t even a question. Why? Because we finished .500. We have had 3 winning seasons out of our last 12. Doesn’t seem to be a sense of urgency to change that either. The decision was made to retain Fred. I’m 100% in his corner to get this turned around. I’m hoping we get some transfers, turn the corner and never look back. But from a 10,000 foot view, this program is a total mess and it’s going to take some serious soul searching to fix it. Now excuse me while a grab a box of tissues, a gallon of Häagen-Dazs, and depressingly cry as Creighton makes the Elite 8 tonight.

    KANSAS GAME DAY THREAD

Tough loss. On the one hand we fought hard, but just seemed to be a little off shooting. 38% The loss of Sam and Allison ultimately probably made some difference. It's tough that we lost two key players this year. So we had to adjust, and others did step up when needed. Lots of headaches this year, heads in your hands... and stuff happening by the refs, etc etc. But tons of fun things to. Had some good wins against good teams. But we were determined tonight and gave it all the team had. KU got a couple of breaks in the later part of the game that helped them. The women deserve a lot of credit for their hard work, and toughness by putting it all on the line, no matter what..all year. They have put on a great show. Hope the aussies can come back ! I've certainly enjoyed it all....already doing mental gymnastics on what next years line up might look like. GBR !!

  5. It pisses me off how successful K State can be with a new coach and basically a whole new team and we're still struggling. Lincoln is a way better town than Manhattan.

  6. Fort is a good choice as well, I threw that roster out there to illustrate a point. Not only should we value length, versatility & the ability to shoot, but players that aren’t AFRAID to shoot…

  7. I mean, that's close enough. And I'm legit doing an exorcism on it. To me, the Sallie situation is the quintessential Nebrasketball curse example. Probably the most sought after, highest-rated recruit we'd had in a decade, maybe? And he's putting out on social media encouraging comments like "we're going to turn this shit around." And we're all like, yeah, finally we have a potential difference maker. And then, all of a sudden, the NCAA decides to get tough on prep school kids with OUR guy. I mean, lowly Nebraska. Just let us have our recruit, please. And they want more than just his test scores; they want to see copies of his homework. For real? I mean, who keeps that stuff? But it didn't stop there. NCAA drags their feet on approval (they might have just said no, and we'd have moved on, probably), but instead they drag their feet until we're in a spot where, if we don't get him started taking classes, he won't be in school and won't be able to play. So, we admit him. And he starts taking classes. And then the Big 12 comes in and says, guys, sorry, but if you admit someone before they're cleared for eligibility, we have this little provision under Rule 42, Section 27(q)(4)(viii) subparagraph 3(b) that says if you admit him before he's cleared for eligibility, the player is *permanently* ineligible to play for that school. And it was like WHYYYYYY? Why couldn't you people just let us enjoy this one little victory FFS? What did we ever do to you? And people on the board at the time will remember that this was something that really bothered me for a long time. I mean, I practically couldn't say the guy's name for a year. And now I have something with his name on it that might have belonged to him had he ever actually been cleared to play. And I'm going to do what any sensible person would do in my situation: I'm going to perform a fricking exorcism on it. I'm going to drive out whatever demon has haunted this program for the last couple of decades. And if we win a game in the dance in the next couple of years, the only thanks I'll ask is that you raise a glass and toast to me in your victory parties after the game. Deal?

  9. Markowski scored 2 points on 1 for 10 shooting (0 for 4 on 3's); Shelly was 5 for 15 from the field, 1 for 7 on 3s, and 1 for 5 on FTs. All that along with 6 for 26 3 pt shooting tells the story.

let's just do a big random drawing of all players every year and randomize every team. sure it's chaotic, but think of the possibilities! half the NCAA is going into the portal every season, let's just finish the job.

  12. I think we will see more of this til the NCAA takes some of this thug ball out of the game. Good defense is one thing, but some of this defense we see has no place in the game.

  14. If two former Nebraska prep players from the same graduating class, who went elsewhere to play college ball, both entered the portal and considered returning to the state to finish their careers, I'd take the guy who's already used to wearing red and white.

  15. This is accurate. Not really sure he fits with what we do. He's basically just become a ball mover, somewhat slasher, and defensive stopper. Basically a more polished version of Denim Dawson.

  16. Totally. Kansas State expects to be successful in basketball and that’s the difference. I don’t think they would put up with how bad we have been lately. It's not like we're just sitting on our hands. We've invested millions and millions of dollars into practice facilities, arenas, staff, head coaches, etc. You can expect a player to be held accountable in the classroom, on the court, in practice, and in the community, but I'd venture to say that there's not a strong correlation between those expectations and March Madness performance. March is talent + chaos + having the right things happen at the right time. We can expect to land the best recruits in the nation but that doesn't mean we will. We can expect certain standards from our coaches but that also creates a revolving door and a downward spiral for attracting prospective coaches. We can also expect to send out $1M NIL checks but as we've seen, but you can't also expect them to stick around all four years and not transfer somewhere else.

  20. Final record: 18-15 So why does it feel so much like a losing season to me? Back in November, if you had told me this season would end with NU getting beaten in the 3rd round of the WNIT, I would not have considered that to be a successful season worth celebrating. Yes, Allison’s injury was a gut punch and it affected the team’s play the rest of the year. But still… If Coach Amy makes absolutely no changes in this offseason, no changes in her coaching style, her offensive/defensive philosophy, her recruiting approach or changes to her assistant coaching staff, then we can expect next year to go no better than .500 — .600 winning percentage. (And perhaps a sub .500 conference record again) After 7 seasons, what reason do we have to believe that Amy will deliver anything different next year if she makes zero changes or adjustments this offseason?

Bummer. Always hate to see the season come to an end. Pretty good effort under the circumstances. Never could get it to within one possession in the last few minutes. Legs tired, shots didn't fall for us in the stretch. Now we look to see what happens in the offseason. Not a really good season, but enjoyed following it as always. They made it interesting in the postseason by getting a couple of wins, which I enjoyed going to. GBR!!

  32. Congrats to Sam, Jazz, and Izzy...all 3 had wonderful careers. Kansas shot even worse than we did from 3, but shot almost 70% from inside the arc, that might be the problem. Lastly, why not just take the closest good shot? If it's a 3 great, if it's not, its not. They are not worth anything when you miss.

  33. He did score two more points after his career ending knee injury - as I remember it, he came back in to try and give it a go and scored on the next possession, but went down again the next time down on defense.

I thought both Kendal's played well. Mendelson too. They might not be as polished, but they seemed to play aggressive, with a type of 'energetic abandon'? It was fun to watch. Even Hake showed a bit of that.

I thought at the end of the third quarter we might make a comeback. Was not able to follow the game completely but it appeared their big girl caused lots of problems. Maybe Moriarity gained some confidence that she can be a key contributor next season. Someone has to step up. Not the season we hoped for and time to look ahead.

  40. All 5 of his points came within a span of about 2 minutes of game time: Two layups, one of which was an and-one. And then he palmed the ball dribbling in the open floor with no defender nearby and turned it over.

Yeah. I watched about five minutes of the game. During that time, Sallis made an impact on both ends of the floor with an athletic spin and drive for a layup and getting a rebound and forcing a turnover on the other end. Was surprised to see this morning a limited stat line for him: 1 assist, 3 turnovers and 5 points--but with 5 rebounds-- in 21 minutes.

AM played like she was intimidated past the game really wasn't even close. They could get to the rim off the bounce at will. We still do not believe in helping with the dribble penetration. Their coaching is what kept us in the game. They tried to get cutesy with their offense rather than finishing at the rack every time. The real bright spot was KM. I thought she played real well in her first start.

  49. I find it interesting that in his fourth year as a head coach at Nebraska, Scott Frost's team lost eight one-score games and lost another single-digit game: by 8 to Illinois by 7 to Oklahoma by 3 in OT to MSU by 3 to Michigan by 7 to Minnesota by 5 to Purdue by 9 to tOSU by 7 to Wisconsin by 7 to Iowa The mantra was "we're close," so the logical conclusion was that while the roster may have been close, poor coaching doomed the team to a horrible season. I'm choosing to interpret Hoiberg's season as the exact opposite — we were close to a horrible season, but good coaching turned those close games our way and led to a mediocre season. After losing to Purdue in OT, we won: by 2 in OT at Minnesota by 3 vs. tOSU by 10 in OT vs. Wisconsin by 4 in OT vs. Maryland by 4 at Iowa We lost a close game to Minnesota in the BTT, but we never led after the 9:00 mark of the first half. In other words, we could easily have gone 5-15 in the conference instead of 9-11. Assuming the coaching will still be solid, we will need to upgrade our roster significantly to compete for a winning record in the Big Ten and be in consideration for an NCAA berth. Of course, you already know that.
