Shockingly Princeton won't be the most pretentious school in that matchup!

  2. I was at the game and it was great. One interesting lineup that we had towards the end of the first qtr was Maggie,Issie,Sam, Kendall M. and Jaz. They played together for about 5 minutes and went on an 8-0 run. Then Sam got hurt. Looked to me on replay it was either a high ankle sprain or possibly an achilles injury. The rest of the team really stepped up. These are good minutes for the younger girls as we advance and continue to practice. Looks like Kendall M. will be starting going forward. Great opportunity for her. Teams keep getting tougher. The most reliable player on our team right now is Issie. She is playing by far her best basketball this season.

Same. I used to be a huge UNC fan and a bunch of my buddies were Duke fans. We were just talking the other night how neither of us really care at all about those teams or that rivalry anymore. One and Done's, "5-stars only" mentality, and now immediate transfers - all those have basically ruined the enjoyment of college basketball at that level and specifically that rivalry. I literally only liked this year's nebrasketball team because of how hard they played and specifically because of Sam Griesel. But I sorely miss the days of knowing who the majority of your team was coming back and watching true juniors and seniors play.

  4. i had to watch the game on replay. it looked like the trainer, or whoever, was feeling the back of her calf. i am wondering if it might be achilles related or maybe tore a muscle? unfortunately, we may have seen the last of Sam. what a career as a husker! Thank you, Sam

  8. Seems like a reason we're closer is because we have a better coaching staff that has a clearer vision of the types of players that will work in the system we're trying to deploy.

  9. Scheduling needs to be smarter. We were 11-4 at home and 4-9 on the road. That's 13 road games. Meanwhile no other Big Ten team played more than 11 road games all season except Indiana with 12. We have no buisness leading the conference in road trips.

  10. There were a lot of posts like this last offseason. We took a massive step forward this season. Next season depends heavily on us getting two guys who can replace Griesel and Walker. I don’t think it is unreasonable we might get a couple really good guys. With a dead man walking coach we got Sam, Gary, Bando and by all accounts could have gotten Keyante Johnson if our medical staff cleared him. I don’t think it is doom and gloom time unless we strike out in the transfer portal. And even then Minnesota has reservations for last place already made.

  11. @Norm Peterson with hindsight I must say I think that we were honestly just keeping healthy all year (and having DW ready to go from the start of the season) away from being tourney bound this year. However, as others mentioned, we got some very valuable experience for a number of guys that otherwise may not have been able to play, so perhaps an opportunity to improve next year?

  12. I mean this sincerely - It's gotta be really tough when you've played basketball your whole life, been the man, even had some success here - and then after some time the analytics just show your team is worse when you're on the court and better when others are playing.

  13. Building a roster to win in the Big Ten is not equivalent to building a roster for tournament success. The Big Ten has a lot more size than other conferences and the refs let it turn into goon ball when you're driving it inside. Unless you've got the right jersey on or have built up some respect as a player, you're going to get the hell beat out of you if you take it to the hole (and also you're going to take a lot of hits on the arm when shooting 3s). Then teams get to the tournament, and all of a sudden they're playing smaller, quicker, more skilled teams that run and press more, and the games are officiated differently, so you see a bunch of quick exits. Penn State got a 10 seed playing small ball, and Maryland wasn't huge, but they were the exception.

  15. want to echo all the positive comments on this game. 14 and 15 really played well with the opportunity that came their way when Sam went down. Unless we can find a faith healer or some other miracle occurs to make Sam available, one of them is going to start the next game and both of them are going to play more minutes. Something else ... I paid attention to AW during the warm ups and entrances to and exits from the court. She is not wearing a brace and (tho i know it isn't running or cutting) she is moving smoothly. and another something else - (gonna give this dead horse one more whack here) Sam's injury only brings into sharper focus and under a more intense light the problem of having four non-productive scholarships. The portal is open and every time a tourney team loses more players are able to enter it. Another Krull or Cravens please.

  19. In a cruel twist of fate, the B1G IS slow & unathletic. Fast + very good perimeter shooting tends to do well in March. Which was Hoiberg's original plan coming to Nebraska.

  20. There is that, but I still think the bigger and more controllable part is scheduling. Being in the Big 10, and playing Creighton every year, we should be playing more of a Bill Snyder inspired non con schedule. If you take 2 of the 4 games and schedule a school for the blind in there, we are in the NIT at 18-14: St John’s (assuming this was a Gavitt game so we are playing this one) Memphis Oklahoma K-State With how tough our conference slate is, we should be playing Creighton and one other team with a pulse in my opinion. We will have a pretty good SOS based on our conference alone.

Total valid question as it's difficult to keep paying the donation and cost of season tickets when the kids that are here are already looking ahead to where they can go to get a better deal. There is absolutely no difference between college and pro sports now other than the college athletics are younger. I was so against NIL as knew once we went down this path, it would totally ruin what we all loved in college athletics. With this younger generation, it's just never enough. They always want more. I have been a die hard NU hoops fans for several decades but makes it harder and harder to continue to pay to go watch kids that are only here until they can get more money somewhere else. And what's more sad it NIL is just starting so the money and effect it will have will only get worse. Basically, that is the only way to recruit is tell the kid how much money you will pay him. My, how times have changed and not for the better.

  23. I think Fred finally has the right staff in place. We get the right 2-3 transfers in and all bets are off. I hate calling year 4, “year 1” but if you consider that it was an entirely new staff and we played that well…what kind of jump can they make in “year 2”.

  29. I’m very superstitious. NDSU kid is my guess and things look good with keeping KT around. His ultimate dream is the NBA - I think there’s zero chance of that - but there absolutely isn’t a path from Japan pro league to NBA, but who knows with another incredible college season. And then we’re well in on 100 decent bigs so I’m not really worried about that. And just a pure hunch, we get 1 of the 3 Chucky/Sallis/Traudt.

I wonder how this will affect the sport, concerning being a fan, into the future. The reasons I personally grew to love it are no longer there. Is the next generation of fan going to be able to foster the same type of attachment? The hooks are already in for me and the rest of us.

So it sounds like Big Ten officiating, while it might help the conference blue bloods stay at the top of the regular season conference race, hurts the conference in the post-season when the players/teams that are used to getting all the calls are no longer getting all the calls and can't adjust. Poetic justice.

  36. The Flying Illini were pretty small up front; C Lowell Hamilton was 6'7", PF Kenny Battle was 6'6", SF Nick Anderson was 6'6", backup C Ervin Small was 6'7", backup SF-SG-PF Marcus Liberty was 6'8" (Marcus Liberty off the bench - the guy would have been one of the top 10 players all time here, and there he wasn't starting as a sophomore), backup SF-PF Andy Kauffman was 6'6". Gill and Bardo did go 6'5", 6'6" in the backcourt, backed up by 6'4" Larry Smith and 5'10" PJ Bowman. Their lack of size never really hurt them all year until there was about 4 seconds left in the season, when Michigan's 6'9" wing Sean Higgins simply went over the top of Nick Anderson to grab a Glen Rice miss, and then scored the game winner with time running out.

  38. I don't think Fred should be fired. I just don't see any upside for the current situation. Like I said I hope I'm wrong. Right now I don't see a tournament win for several years. Hope I'm around to see it. I'm 71 now and have been following the team since the early '60s

And I want to put to rest that Nebraska has sole ownership of the 4+ minute scoring/fg drought. Listening to and watching games thru nearly the 1st 2 rounds it seems like every game I hear the announcer say that some team is experiencing a lengthy scoring drought.

  41. Fans want to know. Those concerned about Sam, would like to know. Wouldn't you like to know? And, probably a 'not too subtle' nod to the lack of transparency of this staff. Example: How is Trinity Brady doing? How about Dillard?

  42. Thought so for two years ....Moriarity is not seeing the floor enough. She plays fast, can handle the ball and shoot. Sometimes I thought she is just to fast a player for our sort of a half court offense. Anyway...great game Kendall. The other Kendall played well too ! Awesome Issie !! double - double (only player on both teams) UNI just was too slow for us. We play a bit quicker than them. Our height was a factor too. And.....our defense was effective. We defended their inside scorers well. And later we defend their 3. Our home crowd finally got into it and made a big difference. We just play so well at home. Nice job NU fans...and team !! Suppose there's any chance we'll get another home game?

  46. Recapturing the magic of this year at SJS is going to be tough, and there's no support for taking the program further. They drew 2,300 for their final home game in their best season in decades. He should take the best offer now, and I think he will.

  47. Minnesota has four top 100 kids, that played this year. All were freshmen. All were from Minnesota. I'm not sure we were ever getting the top players in the state. I think Coley was rated fairly high. Not sure why she hasn't had a bigger impact. She seems athletic enough. Stewart, Hake? I'm hoping the young lady from North Dakota is the gem we've been looking for.
