  1. It's amazing to me the people that still think the sellout streak is real. I guess from an accounting standpoint it might be but serious, let it just die already. Hard to continue to brag about a sellout streak when there are empty seats all over the place. It's really become a joke that NU continues to have to find ways to make sure all the tickets get sold just to continue this. NU could end this now and the record would never be touched so just let it go already.

  2. This. It is such a non-issue I have no idea why people bother debating it.

My initial thought was Rutgers should have been in, but I dove into their resume and it was a no brainer to leave them out. They played 1 top 50 game in the non-con and lost by 5 runs. They played 1 top 50 team in conf and that was Maryland and they went 1-2 at home. Their other opportunities in conf against top 100 teams were Michigan and Iowa, they went 2-5 against those teams and lost both series (one at home). 1 top 50 win isn't gonna get you off the bubble. If B1G teams want to make the tournament in baseball they're gonna have to start scheduling like it, some of these schedules are pitiful.

  6. Fan bases suck everywhere. A fanbase that shows up even when there's very little chance of victory, plus treats the opposing fans with respect, is rare. You could argue that the military academies have a better fan base, but among the P5 schools I have a hard time believing you'll find one that tops DONU

  7. The streak is more about Nebraska fans rather than husker football per se. You can also say something similar about husker basketball. Nebraskans like their sports and typically show up. It is interesting when the attendance is announced at games. It is focused on the "greatest" fans in college football. I am not convinced we are the greatest. But certainly we are rather tolerant.

It absolutes does not. But when 2 players have the ball in their hands 80% of the time, it makes it hard for others to contribute offensively and leads to poor team chemistry which seemed very obvious with last year's team.

    Bryce McGowens's Legacy

Here's an item that's worth the read: And here's a summary paragraph from that item: This season, McGowens had some of the most erratic shot selection in the country. He settled for bad jumpers, didn’t take shots he was best at, and would struggle to create space. However, McGowens did something we rarely see from freshmen: he improved his shot selection in the middle of the year. Instead of settling for contested jumpers, McGowens started attacking the rim, which improved his shot quality and regularly sent him to the free-throw line. The importance of this pivot in mindset cannot be understated. Yes, there were bad habits that persisted throughout the season, but for a freshman to actively change his approach to scoring in the middle of the season is a rare occurrence.

  12. So if you allow companies to buy up seats that were not sold could a company like Nike give millions to say Oregon and say they are for all the unused seats from past games and over take Nebraska's "streak?"

  13. Should have ended last year, but for a few donors who bought blocks of tickets for disadvantaged youth. Winning will provide a cure.

  14. The “Streak” doesn’t matter to me in the least, I was merely raising the issue in regards to the Ticket Package. Frankly, my concern is simply winning the B1G West.

Sadly I have no interest in the pairings. Too bad, really; just a year ago I was thrilled that Nebraska could face (& defeat) Arky. My, how things change... hope NU can figure out what ails them, and will be back as contenders again real soon!

I hear what you’re saying, but taking NBA talent off the roster & replacing it with above average talent it’s hard for me to see an improvement. Maybe the collective will come together to form a Winning WHOLE & maybe there’s enough Johnny Truebloods on the roster to instill that “fire in the belly” but until I see it on the Court, it’s all conversation…

Anything above a 10th place finish & I’ll be shocked. Look at what we lost, & what we brought in. Having guys on the roster who can “go off” for 40 is a plus not a minus in my opinion. Bigger, more defensive minded all sound great now until Creighton is up 42-8 in Omaha…

  20. The improvement was also hand in hand with trusting his competent assistants (not MA) to do their job. Fred was surprised he was given another year and it put a pep in his step. This is something I really, really like about Alberts—he likes to work with what he has and make it successful instead of coming in, threatening the coaches, and ultimately firing them. He’s the real deal. My affinity for Hoiberg’s ceiling has obviously lessened, but I still think there’s a brilliant basketball mind in there if he has kids like him on the roster (smart, unselfish, and arrive motivated). He may very well have those players for the first time he’s been here. The recruiting haul they’ve made over the summer is also a testament to working together as a staff in the recruiting realm. After the SMU transfer, I’m cautiously optimistic.

  21. This. The improvement coincided with Trey not only returning but getting his legs back. And then Trey's energy and grit rubbed off on his teammates.

  22. Not to my eyes. We played way harder on defense than we were all year IMO. We might have been fortunate to actually win, but the effort was significantly different.

  23. Since this thread is already not about the transfer portal since we are done with it, I do think that Albers meeting with Hoiberg had some things involving playing a brand of basketball that relatively blue collar Nebraskans can appreciate. We immediately started playing harder after that meeting. We sort of reinvented the wheel on the fly and got immediate results. You don't just waltz in to Ohio St and a top 5 rated Wisconsin senior day and win without great effort. Granted Verge dominated under the new found structure that got players in spots to succeed, rather than just playing hero ball. It is clear to me that Hoiberg was way too confident in his group to just play for most of the season. At Nebraska we are going to have to be an elite defensive team to have success. It might not be what some want to watch, but it is simply the truth. We tried the other way. It was awful to watch. I hope Hoiberg is finally placing the emphasis on defense first. You can still run off defensive rebounds. We don't have to play slow, but we have to play great defense.

  24. We had one the very BEST (Top 5) Freshman in program history & accomplished absolutely nothing. It’s hard to square the circle…Would I do it again? Sure I suppose, he was fun to watch play, but the WHOLE thing just leaves me feeling hollowed out.

  25. It is possible some are already here since there was a May 16-June 8th summer school session. The first 5-week session starts June 6th and I would expect most are "required" to "voluntarily" be there by then. Here's the link to FH's camps this year. You'll notice the note on there, which is, kind a strange? https://www.fredhoibergbasketballcamps.com/ - am I reading it correctly that there will be no basketball camps this summer? Cause of COVID or what?
