So, let's say you're a highly sought after transfer kid who grew up in Nebraska and you're now in the transfer portal with your pick of a lot of places. Do you go ... a) to a local program where the head coach has won an average of 8 games per season for the last 3 seasons; OR b) somewhere else? I don't feel like I'm in any position to judge Baylor Scheierman's choice here. We need to earn the respect we want. Start winning some games and we'll start landing players like this. Until then, we really have no business complaining that he didn't pick us. Hell, I wouldn't pick us at this point.5 points -

Griesel ist N
BLB115 and 2 others reacted to MitchMcGaryMunchies for a topic
If I was Griesel, it would be on sight when I saw Scheierman next year. Griesel outplayed him in the league championship game, hit the go-ahead three in his face with 3 minutes left, drew an and-1 opportunity against him shortly afterwards...just didn't have the support around him to get the win. Transfers back home and immediately gets overshadowed by the Scheierman show. Now that it's over, all the pundits want to talk about is how this further illustrates issues with NU. I'm pissed for Griesel! Seems like a really good kid and he was positive through this whole situation. But hoping...3 points -
We also need to get Coca Cola back as an exclusive. Football program tanked when they switched over to Pepsi. When it comes to NCAA Championships it's already been proven that Coca Cola schools dominate. I've posted this before.3 points

The current format began in 2009. Seattle is the only MLS team to have won the championship under the current format. It was previously the CONCACAF Champions Cup which, as a brief search on Wikipedia reveals, was played under varying formats and over varying lengths of time and it's really hard to compare the two versions of the tournament. Safe to say that the current iteration of the competition is much more difficult to win and while DC United (1998) and LA Galaxy (2000) both lay claim to continental club tournament championships, their achievements are not deemed to be as substantial as Seattle's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CONCACAF_Champions_League That's not to say that MLS has been totally uncompetitive during the current format, we've been progressing steadily and placing more teams in the semifinals and finals as of late, it's just that this is the first time an MLS team has broken through to win the trophy. Hopefully it will be the continuation of a trend.2 points

Jim Rose & the demise of UNL
Handy Johnson and one other reacted to Huskerpapa for a topic
Not keeping Nebraska kids has been prevalent for much longer than twenty years. Bob Boozer, G. Sayers and others escaped our grasp. What affected us more was scholarship limitations, the demise/changes of the Big 8, TV saturation and a few lazy ass coaching staffs. That said, what Rose said has grown legs, especially when we haven't landed top Nebraska/Omaha talent in several years. Let me ask a question...and I apologize as it is slanted towards football...but Okie State just plucked a QB from Gretna. Nebraska does have a QB from central Nebraska on the roster. But generally speaking, we recruit our QB's elsewhere. We used to live on RB's from Omaha. Two questions, should we have taken the Gretna QB this cycle or are you happy with the east coast kid that we secured??? Why can't we find a home grown RB any longer? It sort of seems to me that the Omaha metro coaches no longer filter their talent our direction. So going back to Rose...I would say it is our inability rather than our unwillingness.2 points -
Actually, the downfall of NU's major sports really went careening out of control after Rose was hired to do football PxP and to be Pederson's yes man on the radio, so I blame him. He's a blowhard & tool of unimaginable proportions.2 points

“The biggest separator was the culture,” Scheierman told the World-Herald. “Coach Hoiberg’s trying to build that culture with Nebrasketball. Creighton has already established its culture." Year 4 and still don't have a culture established. Any coach worth their weight has definitive signs their culture is being established by the second part of their first year. This is an embarrassing indictment on our program. https://omaha.com/sports/college/creighton/baylor-scheierman-commits-to-creighton/article_34af5b48-cae2-11ec-a9a0-9f670a219420.html2 points -

related a bit to Red Don's post above on the history of girls bb. some of you may have figured out i am from South Dakota. i have no idea if any of the forum members have any ties to SD. SD Public Broadcasting has a documentary on the history of SD girls bb. it is very interesting. i'll provide the link in case anyone enjoys a little history (albeit, from SD). it is 56 minutes long. i'm guessing coach williams has seen this! https://watch.sdpb.org/video/south-dakota-specials-play-like-a-girl/1 point -

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm shooting off of memory, but I believe the LA Galaxy teams that won it were in the pre-CONCACAF Champions League. They were still CONCACAF champs, but under a different format and different name. I'll try to remember to look up the exact details later.1 point -

The football landscape is vastly different from the glory days. Nebraska should expect to “compete” every year for the B1G West Title in FB and on occasion maybe win a B1G Championship. In BB we should expect to be competitive most seasons and eventually win a NCAA Tournament game or two.1 point -
