  1. I read this thread before watching the game for the first time via replay…I saw us up by 23 over a nice opponent with about 4 minutes to go and was wondering which game you all watched. Isn’t this - considering the opponent - our best win of the year? Can’t count exhibitions. You recruit 5 stars to be 5 stars, and you recruit enough depth that somebody can spark you off the bench. It just won’t always be the same guy. Today it was Keisei. Bryce is just a flat out stud - he is coming into his own and we are all witnesses. The situation at PG will sort itself out and it already is. Webster is such a luxury. And also a great example why you don’t just transfer when they recruit over you. He’s been team-first since last year and that never wavered after they brought it Verge late. He’s your glue guy. Coach has to find some pieces to get us by until Trey returns. He was the heart of the team and set the tone with his intensity on both ends of the court. Some of our folks have really stepped up. Others - no reason to name them - have not. Look at the minute distribution tonight…trending. GBR

  2. A couple of Verge observations from sitting pretty close to the Nebraska bench. Early in the second half, Verge had the ball at the top of the key and was just dribbling aimlessly. Kobe was yelling from the bench "MOVE IT". Verge eventually passed and yelled back at Kobe to "chill man". Kobe came in shortly thereafter. On one possession Kobe was standing open on the wing with his hands ready to shoot. Verge drove in and threw up a wild shot. Kobe throws his arms in the air in exasperation and visibly frustrated. Hoiberg pulled Verge out barked something into his ear and I don't believe returned again. It might mean nothing but it was still interesting to see those interactions.

    SAN DIEGO GAME DAY THREAD

Tell you what, Stewart is coming around. Last year she at times was kind of lost in the fog of newness to college BBall. But this year, especially yesterday, you could see the difference in the expression on her face. Was focused and you could just see the determination. Ran harder, got set in position quickly, and got involved in the fighting for every inch in the paint. Was a warrior that is still working on getting better, and better. That mentality seems to be rubbing off on everyone....shown by some of the newbies. You guess who? One last thing......San Diego St was the type of physical game we might not have won last couple of years. We didn't have the tenacity, that we have now. SDS tried to be the bully (like Creighton) but we fought right back, no hesitation. One of the biggest differences I see this year from Amy's previous teams. AND...improved shooting. We're shooting better percentages by far. We're deeper with scorers (all positions) . Yesterday 4 or 5 of us scored well...hard to stop a team like that. Try to guard one scorer and then get burnt by another Husker. A winning combination. OK on to Wake Forrest, they're 7-0 ...will be THE test before the B1G starts.

  4. Yup. My subscription ended today. Perfect timing. I had to go to the actual website to cancel (not the app). Bling Blough and Yaka Dunka to you all!

  5. Thank you Jaz ....and the rest of the team too, they were poised in the middle of the slugfest. Alexis did well in the middle of the battle ground. Bella was tough. Sam nice game. Hard fought game. Probably not unlike some B1G games coming up.

  6. Interesting conundrum. We currently have three starters, that may or may not be the key to a successful season. Two of them appear to be doing too little and one who is trying to do much. All three need to find middle ground in order for us to be successful. One of them could be a future star. We seemingly have the talent to be a good team. But if talent does not create positive results, then it can get ugly. I humbly believe the staff is trying to drive results by limiting minutes. But with 20% of our season completed; and the start of conference season starting this week, it may be time to poop or get off the pot. We need a rotation that fully meshes and can provide quality results. We allegedly are deep enough even without Trey.

  7. I really didn’t feel like rebounding was an issue outside of the final 5 minutes. Up to that point, I only remember 2 or 3 possessions where we gave up big offensive rebounds. One thing that needs to be considered with rebounding stats is the number of turnovers we cause. That cuts down rebound opportunities. If we win points off of turnovers against second chance points, then it equals an overall stats win in my book.

  8. With the game on the line, we didn't see a lot of substitutions. No platooning tonight.

Nice win. Guards and Cravens seemed to be the key players. It’s difficult to listen to the game with Jeff talking over Matt. On to Wake Forest, one coast to another!

  12. Fun watching Tominaga catch fire a bit. Could do without the MJ shoulder shrug after them, though. Gonna look dumb when we’re getting smacked by Purdue and he does the 3 goggles.

  13. You could probably make some good money if you start sharing the weather report from PBA to the parking lot around the 5:00 mark left in the game. Just saying.

  14. This game wasn't as close as the final score indicates. Nebraska built up a nice halftime lead despite South Dakota hitting everything from outside. Then with 11 minutes to go and us up by 7, CJ hits a 3 and Keisei steals the inbound pass and we're up 12. Nebraska tacks on 10 straight after that and it's 75-53 with 6 minutes to go. Keisei was a hell of a spark today. His shooting got us back into the game and he helped key our run. His first make of the game he has a guard closing out on him, takes a side dribble, and knocked it down. He was on all day after that including some nice shots in the paint. He's an offensive explosion waiting to happen. Kobe had it today and Verge didn't, and the minutes reflected that. With Trey out it's vital that at least one of them is playing well every single game. Kobe actually missed a bunch of shots too today but you don't notice it as much because he's not dribbling as much. Bryce makes at least a few plays a game where you can see why he's such a highly regarded NBA prospect. This was his 3rd game with 10+ FT attempts; his athleticism has been racking up a lot of free points for us Walker tied the Nebraska record for consecutive makes over multiple games with 15 today. Ade Daugunduro set the record back in 2008. After his first miss today, he proceeded to make his next 5. We started out well again so today was the day that Keon stayed in after the first TV timeout. South Dakota goes on a run and out he goes. A lot of empty minutes Mayen looks completely lost out there. Breidenbach with active hands out there today, 5 steals. He has his wtf moments but was a plus today. Wilcher had a solid 20 minutes out there today. He's just really solid and Keisei playing so well probably limited his minutes. Ed was a plus on the boards tonight.

    SAN DIEGO GAME DAY THREAD

I like our schedule as it ramps up. Good to have another road game before MINN especially for the newbies. Besides Stewart (who I always liked) Markowski's I'm not backing off from anyone type of physical play will pay off in the Big Ten.

  17. i believe you are correct......i subscribe for the winter. i watched a wake forest game last week (?). announcers were from wake forest.....said this is coach's best squad since being hired. good scorers and pretty athletic. play good defense.

  18. Cayton had a couple turnovers in her 2 minutes. Probably didn't help her cause. Still, love her tenacity on defense. Stewart is playing well. That kid can shoot. Seems fundamentally solid. She and Markowski give Amy some depth in the trenches. Should come in handy when we start B1G play.

  19. We need to keep playing Edwards. He has great natural ability. We need to remember that he did not have a senior season because of covid. He is making the jump to D1 after being 'forced' to miss his last year of high school. He is one of the players that we need to develop. In two years, we have Tominaga (sr), Wilcher (jr), Breidenbach (jr), Edwards (jr), Andre (jr), Blaise Keita (jr), and Ramel Lloyd (soph), This is a nucleus that can compete in the BIG. We need to keep bringing in two or three freshmen recruits each year. We build our team with freshmen recruits that stay 3 to 4 years. We can bring in one transfer to meet a specific need -- if he has the mental discipline to play within the system. We would also take a 'one-and-done' player occasionally if the opportunity came. But main point is we build our team with freshmen recruits.

  20. Interesting take on a guy who’s been around since 2012, has nearly 11,500 posts, and just got season tickets for the first time this year. I’ve been called a lot of things in life, but a “not true Huskers fan” has never been one of them. So I guess I’m the first true Nebraska fan that you’ve met to refer to us as Nebby.

  21. That wasn’t a bad team we played today, glad we handled our business. I mentioned this the other day, but if Verge has NBA aspirations, he needs to facilitate and distribute. That’s the only thing that’s going to get him there, or at least an opportunity to get him there. The NBA isn’t interested in him being a volume scoring point guard. There are a lot of players far better than Verge that can do that. The crazy thing is that he’s capable of dishing out 8+ assists a game if he wants to. He will go drop 3 dimes to appease Fred and then look for his points. That’s why his minutes were cut today. He needs to figure that out pretty quick. For this team to reach potential, Lat needs to be a factor. It would be nice if Keon started to become a factor offensively, but he doesn’t necessarily have to. But he has to rebound. If he wants minutes come Big 10 play, he’s going to have to play defense and rebound. Not worried about the defense part. We need him to do both. Walker is not going to pull down a ton of rebounds in Big 10 play. We need Bryce, Lat, and Keon to hit them boards.

  22. Two Observations: (Oh Noooo ) Regarding the missed bunnies, Lay-ups, and the like. I wonder if it is a little like Golf. Don't take your eye off the ball. Short Jump Shots. They almost never go in; missed shots almost always bounce off the heel. Lesson, use the Glass ?

  25. Poor choice by Haiby to try to lob (to Bella?) in the paint while double covered, particularly with San Diego's length. Seems like they blew up that play several times.

  28. Bryce's efficiency is very impressive thus far - understanding it almost certainly will go down as the schedule toughens up, but he's averaging 1.59 points per FG attempt as a true frosh. Roby had 1.65 in 2017-2018 (on 278 total points), but his game was far different than Bryce's game. None of the other recent volume scorers have been close to that number: Allen 2020-21 1.24 (362 total pts) JPJ 2018-19 1.22 (708) JPJ 2017-18 1.39 (568) Shields 2015-16 1.31 (503) White 2015-16 1.39 (563) Petteway 2014-15 1.21 (564) Shields 2014-15 1.31 (478) Petteway 2013-14 1.36 (579) Shields 2013-14 1.38 (409) And Walker's number is off the charts - 2.03 points per FG attempt. Won't stay that high, but I never would've expected that from him. For comparison, in Venson Hamilton's Big 12 POY season in 1998-1999, he was at 1.34 on 518 total points. Walker won't come close to that total points number, but he is off to an amazing start none the less.

  33. Lots of missed layups, although there's been a good bit of contact on most of them. Refs, as usual, are terribly inconsistent. Just playing kind of sloppy.

  36. Enjoyed this game. A mild, windy walk to the north doors of PBA. I was nervous when South Dakota went up 21-16…Verge had some flashes but also made some Verge type of mistakes, and Fred wasn’t having it. Good effort by Walker today. I agree with Matt, Lat does indeed look lost out there. kobe is such a luxury to have off the bench. Tominaga was a difference maker. His off the ball movement stresses out opposing defenses and really is a reason why the defense is scrambled up. glad to get this win
