  1. I agree a 2:1 ratio is a great goal. The only person to achieve that last year was Whitney Brown who was 2.25:1. She was only a freshman as well.

  2. Below are Trey McGowens numbers with Teddy on the court followed by his numbers without Teddy. These are numbers vs top 100 teams though they look similar when I run them from vs all competition. Statistically I can make an argument that McGowens played better when Teddy wasn't out there that I suspect someone could back up with game tape. I would assume that with Teddy out there, McGowens had more of a feeling that when he passed the ball it wasn't coming back to him and the assist% difference seems to indicate that. Seemed like that all came to a head when they couldn't get off a last second shot in part because Trey didn't want to pass Teddy the ball. On the flip side Banton's numbers were better with Teddy on the floor and I'd assume it was because Banton didn't feel pressure to be a scorer or find himself with the ball as much with time running down on the shot clock. I guess to summarize Teddy didn't seem to make most players better scorers as much as he masked poorer scoring players. It would seem we've replaced most of these poorer shooters with better ones. For the most part I think this group will share the ball more even accounting for Verge overshooting because Verge can also set up teammates with passes, something that Teddy didn't excel at.

  3. You like to have a 2:1 ratio for assists to turnovers for your guards. At times we have had those number in games. But what seems to burn us in close games is one or two turnovers late that lead to points for the wrong team. I think we can all think of past games where we was tied or down/up a basket and we make a bad pass that leads to a quick two from them. Those hurt. Now you can expect those from freshman. But too often it has been 3-4 year players making those key mistakes. Watching the top teams in the B1G and their PGs rarely make those mistakes. Hopefully we have a couple of PGs that can turn this trend for us.

  4. There are three Division 1 Men’s Basketball programs in this state, and the one leading the way in terms of guys on NBA rosters, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. What a time.

  5. That is one thing I hope we have have this year. More consistent passing and ball handling. We have had our trouble with both over the years.

  6. This could very well happen, but what I'm most excited about is that we seem to have enough shooting that we'll have significantly less games where we hit nothing eternally all game. Now you can just sub the guy out and the guy coming in will likely shoot it better. I don't even remember the last time this was possible here.

  7. We have been equal opportunity turnover achievers for the most part really. We share making turnovers. Every position. A Coaches nightmare. Obviously, it can be the difference win or lose. That being said, it's not real prevalent. We seem to be streaky ......go a couple of games OK, then get caught up in the turnover monster. Simply skill and mental development needed? Teams with quick defenders have been able to take advantage of us at times. Causing turnovers....& stealing the ball. But many times it's just poor decision making....lack focus. This new team has to be a coaches dream. Lots of talent. With the mix of lots of newbies, this team will be so new to playing together, that turnovers colud be an issue early on. We'll see... but this is probably the most skilled team Coach Amy's had. Hope the team is able to make a markedly positive difference as this coming season goes on. With this size squad, pick out and play those that are better ball handlers ?

    2021-2022 expectations

I think so, yes. At least a little bit. Covid really screwed a lot of stuff up for us last year. Coupled with Derrick's suspension we were the team probably most hurt by limited/no off season practices of any in the country; and we were also hit as hard as any team in the nation with covid issues during the season. Teddy's suspension and subsequent dismissal only coincided with the fact that we were just starting to become whole as a team. I'm not saying that losing Teddy was a huge loss for the team, nor am I saying it was addition by subtraction, per se. I'm just saying that in this case more than most correlation does not equal causation. It just is what it was. The byproduct of everything that happened was we played an NBA schedule down the home stretch and anyone could see the strides this team made (even with Dalano riding the pine and Teddy hitting the bricks) were remarkable. The team that finished was in more ways than one not the team we started the season with. We were forced to focus on only one thing...playing games and surviving, as a team. Which we did. The schedule was brutal, and it obviously took its toll, but it also paid some pretty remarkable dividends. I still marvel at some of the magic that Thor pulled off at the end of the season. This gives me confidence in Hoiberg's ability as a coach, and the prospect of going in to a season with a full offseason to learn the system and get familiar with all the new guys, along with having LEGIT depth on the roster, like 10 deep kind of depth...at least...is pretty exciting. Will it translate to wins? Who knows. But I'm counting on this year's team to be much more worth watching than they have been in quite some time...certainly the most in the Hoiberg era. Can't wait.

    Banton NBA Draft Thread

Except nowhere remotely close to being as likable.

  11. Yvan is the perfect example when looking at our roster transformation. Two seasons ago he was a starter with no one else really challenging for minutes at the 5. Last year we assumed he'd be the starter again (at least until DW finished his suspension), but Hoiberg felt more comfortable playing small with Lat at the 5 and Andre ate into Yvan's minutes too. Then when DW was eligible, Yvan fell out of the rotation. Now the guy who beat out Yvan for backup minutes last year, Andre, may not make the rotation because we again have upgraded talent. If that doesn't tell us a little something about the depth on this team versus the previous two years, then I don't know what will.

  12. Reviewing this thread, I'm reminded how, if you don't say anything, you don't have to walk back anything.
