  1. Nope. Not possible to do around me. I remind anyone that will listen any chance I get of this fact. It usually elicits an eye roll from my wife and the response, "Yes babe we know. Your Huskers are about to be great."

  3. Probably makes more sense at this point to compare our depth vs the depth to begin the season last year though it's not like it was much better with Walker suspended, Lakes not eligible. Coming in it was Teddy T McGowens Banton Mayan Yvan Backups Thor (ultimately got the nod over Yvan) Sham Andre (ended up getting knocked out by Covid in the opener) This year's team easily has more depth and hopefully we have minimal injuries/adversity so we don't have to test its limits.

  4. Interesting point Norm. Our starting 5 in our final game last year: Walker (returning starter in 21-22) Mayen (returning starter in 21-22) Thor Webster T. McGowens (returning starter in 21-22) backups that played: Andre Banton Lakes Thor graduated, Banton got drafted by the NBA, and Andre/Webster/Lakes return. Webster is relegated to a backup, Andre & Lakes might not even make our rotation. with 3 returning starters…it means we are comparing Thor/Webster last year to B.McGowens/Verge this year - plus you have to assume the 3 returning guys get better or at least stay the same. I would say this years starting lineup looks much better with a 5-star wing and a PG that has scored over 40 in a Pac12 game and turned down an NBA contract to transfer here.

  5. The starting lineup might only be a little better than a year ago. What's really REALLY different about this team is the next group of guys that go in. There might not be much of a step down from the top 5 to the second five. In fact, this year's second five might beat last year's starters head-to-head (if there's any way to test that hypothesis, I'd like to know what it is.)

  6. Good to know coach is just as confused as we are about what the rotation ultimately will be. Seems to be a close race among a lot of the players. I am beyond curious how this thing will shake out. I say good to know because our perception (us internet guys) of having quite a bit of talent that is capable of playing is in line with what Fred is seeing.

  7. I’m sure there’s going to more than a few of those “Holy S**t” games when ALL of our 3 point shots are falling & we boat race some good teams who didn’t see it coming & THEN couldn’t stop it…

  8. Actually it was Hannah's sophomore year. If you look at the roster from 17-18, they ended up having three players go into coaching Wood, Simon, and Cincore. Wood and Cincore as seniors played a big role I think in setting the tone for that group. Leadership can play a big part of the success of a team.

  9. Hoiberg could lose every game this year and I would still think he’s one of the top 5 offensive minds in the world. He convinced me of that almost a decade ago. Of course, there’s a lot more that goes into winning college basketball games than just having a brilliant X’s and O’s mind.

  10. It’s easy to forget sometimes that we have such a high quality Coach & that this program is about ready to take off in a BIG way...

    Alonzo Verge Jr.

https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Article/Nebraska-Huskers-basketball-Alonzo-Verge-Jr-173387527/ Nice write-up on Verge. A lot of times guys like Banton will get feedback from the NBA about a skill they need to improve on and it will be something like 3pt shooting and you then have a guy working on a weakness while you're trying to win games. With Verge being told to work on his PG skills, it feels more like this is an ability he already possesses and this is a team that doesn't have someone like Remy Martin who is probably a superior version of Verge. To me it seems like we aligned vision for success and we'll see if that happens or if Verge ends up shooting too much for either of our benefits.

  15. Way ahead of where they were a year ago in terms of installing the system. Biggest change is shooting ability and then depth. A name we might not look at a lot who was mentioned twice is Keon Edwards, once because of his shooting and the second time because of his defense -- his ability to move his feet and his length. Depth, it's like in the past, if we had 8 legit players that could cover all positions, we felt pretty good. This year, there will be legit players who will almost never see the floor because our rotation won't go nearly as deep as our bench. In the past, our rotation was limited by the quality of the bench. This year, we could go as deep as we want and still have quality players who just won't get minutes.
