I remember being really excited about Ade because he had an offer from Penn State. Seriously. Same with Toney McCray and Sek Henry because they had some power 5 offers. We were so used to beating out the likes of Weber State and Old Dominion for recruits in the days of Collier and Doc. We still played some dang good ball in those years though, enjoyable to watch and were almost always competitive. Underappreciated coaches, IMO. Collier teams finished 6th, 7th (twice), 8th and 9th in the conference. Doc finished 7th (three times) and 8th. Some people will blindly claim the Big Ten has been a much better conference than the Big 12 was back then, but I'm not buying it. Those were the days of players like Durant, Aldridge, Beasley, Griffin, Hinrich, Collison, Gooden and tons of other All-Americans. Also coaches like Eddie Sutton, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Bobby Knight, Quinn Snyder, Larry Eustachy, Rick Barnes, Kelvin Sampson, etc.
Fred's a great basketball mind and he now has the talent that we maybe haven't had since Danny Nee. You're right, time to coach 'em up.
