  1. The players have said CJ has been the best shooter on the team so far (other than Lakes, since he hasn’t been practicing). They have also commented on Keon and Wilhelm’s shooting ability. Webster was 38% and Trey was 37% from three last year - both very respectable. Lat was 35% and I think we’d all agree that should go up this year. Verge shot 33% last year, but it seems a lot of those attempts were in iso, off the dribble and heavily contested due to the system he played in. Tominaga and Lakes might actually be the best shooters on the roster, although playing time might be hard to come by for them. Having said all that, it is fair to be concerned about three point shooting if for no other reason than we are Nebrasketball.

Its basketball enjoy it even if you can't root for someone. And it is high level basketball. I'm sure many of you have watched tons of AAU ball this summer and Olympic basketball talent and style wise is a far superior product. I don't even know if I was watching it live or on tape but Doncic went off for Slovenia v Argentina late last night at my house. It was a fun game to watch. I am currently watching Canada vs Serbia women. Pretty sure this is tape delayed but it's all good if you don't know the final score. And I was crushed when John Thompson's last all college team lost in the 1988 Olympics. When I think, ESPN had March Madness the showed every game, even though most were on delay. They had basketball on 24 hours a day that first Thursday/Friday. I would sit up with a notepad and jot down concepts or sets that I really like from Long Beach State vs. New Mexico at 3:00 in the morning. I was lucky enough to have watched every NC State game in the 83 tournament when they survived and advanced. The number of overtimes they went through was amazing. I'm not even referring to the OP, but I don't get all the schadenfreude in general. Root for someone, watch it for the pure enjoyment of the game, whatever. I don't understand people's strong emotional attachment to rooting against people or teams because somehow they feel they deserve to lose. Unless it's Tottenham. They deserve every bad thing that happens to them They Olympics are bonus basketball season. I just enjoy the games.

I care. I watch every Olympics and root for us to win every gold medal. We just won our first ever women's taekwondo gold! We're going to watch nothing but swimming and gymnastics in this house for the next week. This NBA squad certainly isn't the most talented we've ever sent and some of it has to do with all the wear and tear of cramming in two NBA season plus us winning enough since Athens where it's not a pressing matter. If you win, you're supposed to and if you don't it's embarrassing. Couple that with how much better the rest of the world gets at basketball every year and we're going to be lucky to medal. I get not everyone is into the Olympics though I have to say if you're rooting for the US to lose for some reason you're not the American/Patriot you think you are.

  4. So this isn't going to be a trend, right? We don't need to revisit my post that Sergej would average a double double by his sophomore year.

  5. stream is available for all games - go to https://www.nbcolympics.com/schedule and scroll down until you find the 3x3 basketball row click on Expand when you find the right session, and you should see the stream link at game time. Otherwise, replays are available at https://www.nbcolympics.com/replays/sport/basketball-3x3/team/men/japan - have to find the right session again, but at least you can fast forward, as each session has 4 games in it. You do have to have some sort of cable/satellite/streaming subscription - you'll have to log in to your service provider to gain access to the live stream. Not sure if you need a subscription to watch the replays.

  7. l Poland would have to lose their last game, Japan would have to beat China. Then you'd have three 2 win teams, each of those teams having beat each other. Tiebreaker is point diff. Japan would need to beat China by 3 or more. If they win by 2 I think it's a coin flip. If they only win by 1, they'd be out.

  8. Rebounding will be our biggest weakness. We will rank in the bottom half of the conference in rebounding. We should show great improvement in free throw shooting. We should show improvement in our 3-point shooting. We should be much more athletic than in the last two years. We will have much better depth than ever before.

  9. I was wondering if you would include P5 here. He's received a lot of really nice offers recently. Very quick, efficient shooter. And their whole family wants him to be 'N' so it will worth watching to see how this transpires with Hoiberg & Co.

  10. I would like to see college football do it's own thing and not have conference affiliations and then for the other sports we could go back to more manageable size conferences instead of these super conferences. I also find it interesting that many view Kansas in such low regard. Granted they have been bad at football for ever but I see them as huge basketball presence, in fact I see Kansas as being better at basketball than Oklahoma or Texas is at football.

  11. Who cares about what people are commenting on. Everyone's got an opinion on what everyone else should do. The Big 10 would be lucky to get 2 quality programs like Texas and OU. It's just a shame the SEC beat them to it. I'd much rather add schools like Texas and OU as opposed to Kansas and Iowa State. That's like adding Rutgers and Maryland all over again.

    2021-2022 expectations

Making shots is the number one focus but can our primary ballhandlers operating without turning the ball over a ton? Last year was brutal for both.

  14. When I first saw him I thought the same thing. Seemed like a good kid, just kind of went backwards as his college game developed.

  15. This squad is our C/B guys and new guys getting a look. Beating Jamaica’s B/B+ team in a hard fought game is good. We all know that we probably have 9-10 starters already penciled in. We then know probably who roster slots 11-19/20 are. This tournament is who might move the needle enough to come to qualifiers and maybe play their way into that 23. Personally I’m happy that such a young and inexperienced team has made it to the quarterfinals with a good shot at the finals. This is the type of tournament that we want our C+ team winning.

  16. Tominaga is 5th in the tournament in scoring & 6th in shooting value (no idea what that is) & 6th in 1-pt shooting percentage. He's 9 of 19 in 2-pt shooting over the past 4 games, which would rank 3rd in percentage, but, for some unfair reason, they won't throw out his poor day shooting from long range to start the tournament. All pretty impressive since he almost certainly has to be one of the youngest (and smallest) players in the tournament. https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/resOG2020-/pdf/OG2020-/BK3/OG2020-_BK3_C85_BK3MTEAM3-------------------------.pdf Poland loses to Netherlands, so that keeps Japan alive.

  19. He’s getting the big offers he was hoping to garner. Personally I really want us to offer this kid, and not just because he is a good three point shooter. He badly wants to be here, which to me is the type of kid you want in the locker room. Like Norm said, if he is good enough for Iowa and Illinois, he is good enough for us.

  20. Parker Friedrichsen was just offered by Porter Moser at Oklahoma. It's gettin' real when SEC teams offer.

  21. I hadn't watched that clip... super impressive. Makes me think that Hoiberg & Co. will eventually pull the trigger, perhaps on an official visit... build the suspense. Total excitement for the whole Friedrichsen fam. GBR

  22. "I was in his office today, and he showed me exactly how I would fit in, and he broke down my game into his system, and it fits perfectly." Imagine that: we're a perfect fit for the system he wants to run in.

  23. Are we waiting for an official visit to offer Friedrichsen? Offer him while he's here? I mean, if he's good enough for Illinois ... We've had an upturn in recruiting, but let's face it, we're not *that* good that we can be more selective than Illinois and Iowa. If he's good enough for them, he's good enough for us. And, if this is where he wants to play, he ought to get an offer soon.

I enjoy the NBA and thought this year's final was terrific. It was nice to see some new blood in the finals. Not upset by the U.S. loss, France has 5 or 6 NBA players, including Rudy Gobert, and the other guys have played together internationally. It's not like the old days when the Americans could just show up and win on talent alone. All to the top countries have multiple NBA players and more international experience. I actually got more worked up watching the U.S. water polo team rally to beat Japan. Some of the offbeat Olympic events are fun, if you don't have to watch an edited version after you know the result. Seems like 5 or 6 channels are carrying stuff, so it's easy to find something watchable.

  25. They are played outside. Saw a photo of the setup and its spectacular and I can see why someone would think it’s inside.

  26. Playmaking, creating shots for others in the halfcourt offense is my concern. It seems we now have the shooters to space the floor and knock down shots. But we have to be able to create shots for those players. Hoiberg's teams at Iowa St. were at their best when they were averaging 16-18 assists per game, with a couple players averaging 3-6 assists. We lose Dalano and his 4 apg (despite what some Husker fans seem to think, Dalano was an excellent passer, and not just in transition). Trey was second on the team with 2.3 apg - he did have a handful of games with 4-5 assists after Dalano moved to the bench. Trey and Alonzo are not pure point guards, but they will have to fill the role of making plays for others. I don't think Bryce will be that player as a freshman. I can also see us playing out of the post more and taking advantage of Derrick and Wilhelm's vision and passing abilities. We know Hoiberg will find ways to put players in position to get good looks, but it's on the players to make the right reads and execute.

  28. This season I expect our defense to be top 25-caliber. We were top 40 last year and replacing Thor and Teddy with Verge and Bryce could/should help. Love Thor, but he really struggled to stay in front of people on the perimeter. Teddy, most of the time, had little interest in playing defense. When Kobe King decided not to enroll at Nebraska, I was concerned about our perimeter defense against the more athletic guards in the Big Ten. Trey is really the only reliable perimeter defender we had and most teams have at least two quick, athletic guards on the court at all times. Verge is known for being a pesky defender - Trey calls him a "dog" on that end of the court. Lat has already commented on Bryce's defensive versatility. I love the thought of having two guards like Trey and Verge to harass opposing guards in the backcourt. I'm sure Doc does too. Doc did a pretty amazing job with the defense last year, considering what he had to work with. Derrick is an underrated defensive anchor in the middle. He reminds me of Draymond Green in how he quarterbacks the defense from the paint. He and an improved Eduardo should mean we'll always have a solid defensive presence down low, which will allow Trey, Verge and Bryce to take more gambles on the perimeter.

Nope. Haven't watched more than a minute or two of NBA in the last 25 years and don't miss it one bit. Absolutely loved that the women's soccer team got their woke arses kicked, as well.
