  1. They will be very intrigued as he checks a lot of boxes. Then they will ask him to take a few shots.

  2. The ironic thing is his best shot for the NBA is also what would get him on the floor and starting for us. If he corrects those deficiencies and proves it on the floor this coming season, he's a high-end draft pick in 2022. So, go get that analysis, find out what they say you need to be able to do, and show that you can do it. I have a feeling the breakdown is going to sound something like "needs to show NBA range on his jumper, needs improved handles, needs improved quickness, needs to finish better at the rim, needs to hit freethrows at a higher rate." If he can do those things, he WILL start for us; if he cannot do those things, he WON'T be in the NBA regardless. I honestly think he CAN do those things. I hope that he WILL do those things and do them in a Husker uniform. Because returning talent matters. And our success this year depends in part on the new guys being as good as we hope, but also on our returning vets being a year better than they were. Experience matters in this game. A lot.

  4. When the cupboard is bare in football, it takes about 5 seasons to recruit lineman over your current roster and then develop them. They are the equivalent of big men in basketball, except you typically only have to recruit and develop 1-2 of those at a time. Our skill spots have been good enough for decent seasons the whole time Frost has been here, but he inherited an atrocious line on both sides of the ball. I think we'll be downhill this year and have some success. I like Frost. He's young and I think he'll figure it out by next season. Hoiberg, however, was an absolute bonafide miracle hire. If you listen closely to his interviews, his articulation, IQ, and integrity are off the charts in addition to an outstanding pro career as a player. Those kinds of coaches are always setting trends, which is why I hope we keep him around forever. I don't think Frost is going to be able to match Hoiberg's innovation in recruiting. As far as in-game, we'll see, but I don't see any way Hoiberg fails here.

  5. When I hear people say this I just shake my head. When in the history of college football has anyone seen a coach take 10 years to turn around a program, much less a blue blood? it took Bill Snyder 3 years to post a winning record at arguably the worst program in CFB history at the time. Granted, he is the gold standard for turnarounds but that is where the goal posts are for turning a program around. Now on the basketball side of things, Fred basically went scorched earth when he only had Thor as a returning player year 1. After watching for two years, I see a team that is having roster issues (shocker!) but the coaching strategy seems like it is creating good opportunities for the players to be successful. The roster now appears to be stabilizing and a nice group of players is coming in. Hopefully good coaching + better players = significantly better results. We all know life is not always that neat and clean because chemistry is important. Still, it appears the pieces are coming together for men’s hoops.

    Remember when...

Honestly nobody knows this. We have zero point of reference because we didn’t play out of conference. We are a wildcard. Getting out of the Arkansas regional would be a massive undertaking. Highly unlikely that happens as they are the #1 overall seed. At a minimum we will have a better feel for what we have after seeing us play some of the other top teams from around the country.

Yes, more or less. The withdraw date is July 7th. The NBA combine is around June 17th. The combine is invite only so whether or not he's asked to attend really seems like it would dictate whether or not he comes back. It seems pretty unlikely he'd be drafted this year. What happens if he has a solid commit to play for a G-League team? That would look pretty attractive if you're Banton and you're potentially questioning whether or not you're going to start at Nebraska next year.

    June 4-6

This is shaping up to be a historic recruiting weekend for Nebrasketball.... So far we have the following visits happening:(hopefully I'm not missing anyone) Isaac Traudt 4 star Ranked #67 Nationally in the 2022 class by Rivals (Official Visit) Simeon Wilcher 5 Star Ranked #8 Nationally in the 2023 class by Rivals (Unofficial Visit) Omaha Biliew 5 Star Ranked #6 Nationally in the 2023 class by Rivals (Unofficial Visit) Chance Westry 4 star Ranked #24 Nationally in the class of 2022 by Rivals (Official Visit) Not to mention all the other visitors in June.... How impressive is this for a coach coming off of back to back 7 win seasons?? Pretty damn excited for the future of Nebrasketball under Coach Hoiberg!!

  9. Remember when Nebraska won 22 games and we were hoping to sneak in to the tournament only to see us get a terrible seed in the NIT? Check out the NCAA baseball tournament. Huskers in Arkansas' regional, are you kidding me! That makes us the lowest seeded two seed.

How do we know that right now? Really? We don’t because Kevin Warren decided to F everything up. We have the Big 10 coach, player, and freshman of the year. We won 30 games in a conference only season. We have two solid weekend guys and a lineup that can go big as quickly as we could go home. Everything would probably have to be perfect for us to come out of the Arkansas regional this year, no matter the team, but we don’t know know much about our team except that we were the best in the conference by a decently wide margin. Unfortunately, we could be CWS good this year and still not make it out of regionals. That’s why people are pissed. Arkansas fans aren’t too thrilled we were put in their either.

And I’m just saying... the NCAA would have made a hell of a lot more money with Nebraska hosting than they will save by bussing them to Fayetteville.

  13. Absolutely. And there is no tried and true way to know if the next coach will be successful. For example, I think we have a good one in baseball right now but Bolt had never been a HC above the JC level. In hoops, Fred has an amazing resume and success in the past but there are no guarantees there either. I just really believe in what he is doing.

  14. For Oklahoma it was 5 years. Gibbs last season he went .500 and got fired. And he was navigating NCAA probation from Switzerland. Schnellenberger went .500 the one year her was there. Then the Blake train wreck came (3 seasons 12-22, all losing records). Then they hired Stoops and he fixed it. They had at least as bad of a mess as us and got it fixed in 5. It is all about getting the right coach.

  15. The WR corps last year resembled an elite intramural flag football wide out corps. When nobody is a threat to get open, the defense can do a lot of things to stop you. (I am not considering Robinson a WR)

looking at the bracket again, they were consistent at least. While I think competitive balance should rule the day(especially when a flight is involved), it is very clear and consistent that they simply lumped all of the 2's in a basket and tried to minimize the total distance of travel among the 16 teams. Similar for 3 and 4. This isn't junior varsity high school sports. Pretty dumb. Regional situations could be used when two teams are very close I suppose, but to do it in a complete blanket is wrong imo.

  17. Hoiberg was a proven commodity at time of hire and Frost was not. Hoiberg's recruiting is trending upward while Frost's level of recruiting still seems kind of TBD. Basketball is easier to turn around due to the smaller roster. For all these reasons, I vote HCFH. Full disclosure: I was never sold on Frost as a "can't miss hire." He inherited great players and a great system at Oregon. He was handed the keys to a Maserati and didn't crash it. That is more than a lot of coaches do, but not something that screams "elite offensive mind" to me. Then he landed a fantastic job for a first time head coach looking to build a resume; he inherited a team that on paper looked horrible coming off of the infamous 0-12 season, but was loaded with talent and knew how to win (10-4, 12-1, 9-4 in the three seasons prior to 0-12). UCF was a program poised for a quick rebound, and whatever coach was at the helm for the rebound would be lauded as a miracle worker. I don't intend any of that to be a knock on Frost. Most up-and-coming coaches also had good luck to help build their resume. But it is a reminder that there's a big difference between hiring a young, up-and-coming coach and a proven commodity. I remember debating a lot with co-workers and friends who all thought Frost was a surefire bet to turn the program around. I was more on the fence in whether he would ultimately work out, but agreed that he should be Moos' first offer given the combination of him being a famous alum and the hottest name in coaching at the time.

  19. 'Chicken or the egg ' can be used as a metahpor used to describe a situation where it's undetermined which of two things is either the cause or the effect. The success of either the football or basketball teams is mostly unrelated; the thread title doesn't work.

  20. What info are you going off of that makes you say you wouldn't be surprised if we get a commit? And should we infer you expect one? You think it's likely? Or just that it's a strong possibility? Because if it's merely plausible, it would still be a surprise for it to happen over his visit. So, give us some deets here.

  22. I think hes in a tough spot here. Not really an NBA player could catch on in the G league or whatever they call it now. If he comes back I dont think hes getting as much PT with all the talent we have, dont see how transfering again helps either. Hes got a good coach with good connections in the league who can help him out and worse case scenario he plays overseas and has a nice little career. We should be very proud of him.

everything NU does this year is a gift. no one expected them to do jack. what better motivation than to go into DVHs backyard and pull off an upset? These guys have been underdogs all year. They're good at it. In a perverse way, this is the perfect regional for them.

  24. Honestly, I think he needs to work on his handles quite a bit, and his passing. There were numerous times he got the ball stolen clean while he attempted a dribble drive- drove me bonkers at times. He also didn’t seem to be a great distributor, which is fine, but in the NBA, is he a wing?? Not nearly quick enough but not big or strong enough for the 4....

Most likely wanted to have the storyline of student against teacher. South Bend is 140 miles further from Lincoln than Fayetville. Is it that much of a difference?

Yes but think of the storyline for the talking heads. The greatest coach ever at Nebraska, who now has the number one team at Arkansas against a Nebraska team that is coached by one of his best players back at Nebraska. And Nebraska plays the game like Van Horn taught Bolt.

    2021 Baseball

Not to nitpick, the B1G hasn't been a 1-to-3, let alone 1-to-2, bid league for several years. That's old thinking. And the bids have been spread around the league to a large number of different teams. The quality of play in the B1G since NU joined the league has increased tremendously. (Not claiming that NU is responsible for that - it's probably more related to tons of money from football needing to be spent somewhere - but having a school that cares about baseball like NU join the league and moving the league tournament to the home of the CWS hasn't hurt.) 2019 - 5 bids - Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State - Michigan made CWS 2018 - 4 bids - Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue - Minnesota was a #14 national seed 2017 - 5 bids - Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska 2016 - 3 bids - Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State 2015 - 5 bids - Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan - Illinois was a #6 national seed 2014 - 2 bids - Indiana, Nebraska - Indiana was a #4 national seed 2013 - 2 bids - Illinois, Indiana - Indiana made CWS 2012 - 2 bids - Michigan State, Purdue From 2012 thru 2019, only Northwestern, Penn St, and Rutgers didn't play in the NCAAs. 10 out of 13 teams having that level of success is pretty good. From 2013 on, it's been far more success than the B1G had in the previous 30 years. I believe Indiana's CWS appearance was the first for the B1G in 3 decades. Just as recently as 2011, Illinois was the only qualifier and was a #4 regional seed after a 15-9 regular season league record. In 2010, the same thing happened. Minnesota was the only B1G qualifier after a 15-9 regular season league record and was a #4 seed in a regional. So the league has come a long, long way. 2021 is an outlier because of the B1G's short-sighted decision to not allow non-con games.

I totally agree. A true point guard makes everyone around them better. We have excellent outside shooters when they get the ball at the right time and where they need it. Will help take some pressure off Sam H. as well. Getting steals on defense is also a sign of a great point guard. Should be interesting competition all summer and precamp. I hope we get more info from the coach and media on how team is doing then we have in the past. Good year to build fan base. More fans to cheer in the Arena would really help this young team. GBR
