I think all is well. I would have been fine if Fred didn't make any changes. Also think if you can add an NBA level coach to your bench, and still keep one of your most trusted basketball minds on your staff in some capacity - you take advantage. To your point, Fred is still at the stage where what ever he think is best, should be trusted and respected.5 points -

Here's what I think about Breidenbach. I don't know if he's good enough to leapfrog Lat Mayen out of the gate. But I believe he is good enough that Lat will have to bring his "A game" in order to start ahead of Wilhelm. And he'll have to continually improve in order to keep that lead. And, if he doesn't, I believe Wilhelm will be good enough to give him a good run for his money.4 points -

So disappointing. I had super high hopes for him. Never found his role... I worry that's his problem overall, he just doesn't have a role. Just not good enough at one or two things to showcase him, but good enough at a lot of different things you try to. But it doesn't work. Banton needs to stay. Time for him to develop and grow, not look for the easy way out. It will pay dividends for him to stay. And as much as I appreciate him and what he started to do at the end of the year, I'm totally fine with Thor moving on. It's just time.3 points -

Robin gave some more clues on who this would be. He is in the transfer portal already and should make his decision by Friday (possibly). He also said it was no one that was mentioned in the thread that he was responding to. That eliminates Bolton. Robin also said it could be a high impact guy, if things break his way.3 points -

I believe this team has the potential to finish somewhere between 7-9 in the Big Ten and make the NCAA Tournament. Should be able to get off to a good start next season and rack up some wins in the nonconference and head into conference play with momentum -Bringing back the core of major contributors from last season, so this team won't need to spend half the season just learning how to play together -Derrick Walker won't be suspended for half of the season -Another year of development for Andre after an impressive freshman season -Adding the first 5-star in Nebraska basketball history -Adding multiple shooters to the roster McGowens, Wilcher, Tominaga, Breidenbach -After coaching changes and players transferring, multiple Big Ten opponents will be in complete rebuilding mode, which should present a good opportunity for Nebraska to move up in the league3 points -

Going into this past season, I had my doubts about whether we'd be improved at all, and I openly questioned why anyone thought we'd be any better in Hoiberg's 2nd season than we were in his first. For a traditional sunshine pumper, I was decidedly gloomy in my forecast. Some on here tried to rescue me with arguments as to why a virtually-completely overhauled roster in year 2 would be any better than a virtually-completely overhauled roster was in year 1. We know how that turned out. I'm going to take a cautiously optimistic approach this time around. Reasons we were bad before: Hoiberg Year 1: A 17-year-old freshman with stone hands beat out anyone else we had to start at center, and he was backed up by undersized true freshman Kevin Cross; For a team built around "loving the three" we shot less than 32% from beyond the arc as a team and nobody was good enough from a volume perspective to make at least 50 threes on the year; We couldn't rebound for crap (12th in the league); We couldn't hit free-throws (13th in the league); Chemistry was questionable Hoiberg Year 2: Walker was suspended for half the season and Andre got COVID and so we had to continue to play an 18-year-old with stone hands at center for half the year; For a team built around "loving the three" we shot just more than 33% from beyond the arc as a team and nobody was good enough from a volume perspective to make at least 50 threes on the year; We still couldn't rebound (last in the league in rebounding margin); Still couldn't hit free-throws (again 13th in the league); Turned the ball over a lot (last in league in assist:turnover ratio); Chemistry was still questionable Reasons we *might* be better in 21-22: Eduardo has a lot of upside and Walker ain't bad. Eduardo comes back as a "seasoned" freshman and has the potential to be a future star. Great length, solid athleticism, good hands. And he's only going to get better as he gets older and adds muscle to his frame, which could be as soon as next season; We'll have Walker to start the season; We'll play a non-con that should include more of the usual cupcakes that will teach our players how to win; The recruits we're bringing in should be a substantial upgrade over the players they replace on the roster; We return the core of our top 8 rotation, including basically all of our starters so, for the first time since Hoiberg came here, we'll have some returning experience and won't have to use flash cards to try to remember who's who; On paper, we're bringing in some shooters who should move the needle significantly in terms of our team 3-pt%. I'm guessing an aggregate improvement of maybe 3%, which might not sound like much, but would have been good enough to move us to 6th in the league in 3-pt accuracy this past season, and a virtual dead-heat with 4th and 5th place Wisconsin and Ohio State; The guys who are likely to have the ball in their hands the most when opponents foul are almost certain to be significantly better FT shooters than their counterparts this past season. In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Eduardo Andre's bad FT numbers last year were because: 1) he didn't get a lot of opportunities; and 2) it was a team-wide funk. I've seen this kid shoot FTs. He's a natural 70% FT shooter. And I think that's where he'll be when, as a team, we don't see that team-wide funk.2 points -

BjoeHusker reacted to hhcmatt for a topic
Turns out the rumor was true and Nebraska has landed former Bulls assistant and college basketball veteran Nate Loenser. Loenser will join the staff as a full time assistant, replacing Doc Sadler. Sadler will move into the role of Special Assistant vacated by Bobby Lutz. Hoiberg on the hire: “This is the third time I had a chance to add Nate to my staff and believe that he is the best player development guy I have worked with. He was a valuable member of our staff that won a pair of Big 12 Tournament titles in Ames. In Chicago, he did a remarkable job with our G League team in its first season, as we had more than a dozen players recalled or sign with other NBA teams. He has earned the respect of players around the league because of his ability to relate with players, and to help them reach their goals. We are pleased to welcome Nate and his family to Lincoln.” Loenser was immediately available for this job as he was let go by new Bulls coach Billy Donovan in October of 2020 as part of a shakeup of the staff. Prior to that time he served as an assistant under Jim Boylen and Fred Hoiberg in addition to being tabbed as the first ever coach for the Bulls expansion G League squad, the Windy City Bulls. The Iowa St grad got his start in the college ranks at Southern Miss during the Larry Eustachy era before making his way back to ISU during the Fred Hoiberg era to get his graduate degree. Loenser played baseball for the Cyclones and was a 4 sport star in high school despite being born with a partial left arm. View full article1 point -

I had a post up but I pulled it after reading through this thread To me he's leaving because as talented as Bolton is offensively when he's the leader on your team he's not good enough to be that guy at this level. If you look at the W-L records in just the vacuum of whether or not Bolton is on your team, it's pretty damning. There is probably a team or situation out there where the team thrives because Bolton is on it; after the last two years that seems like an extremely risky proposition with this team.1 point -

Karl - That would be a nice front court. I would really like to see Weidner run the point. Weidner ran their offense mostly in HS. Have seen her make some great passes. Sam really is a natural two guard. Would allow a nice second unit with Scoggin, Coley, Porter, to lead the way.1 point -

I guess what I mean is that I believe Nebraska has the potential to make the NCAA Tournament and that they will be one of the last 1-2 teams from the Big Ten to get in. My assumption is that the Big Ten will get 7-9 teams in. If that's the case, then I believe Nebraska will finish in the 7-9 range. If the Big Ten is down enough that the conference only gets 6ish teams into the NCAA Tournament, then I believe enough teams would be taking a step back so that Nebraska would be able to finish in the 5-6 range in that scenario. I do not believe that there is much of a chance that the Big Ten will get fewer than 6 teams into the Tournament.1 point -
The only problem with this one might be that, if the league is considered "down"... do we only get 4-6 teams in?1 point

In theory, it can work. So far as I know, Matt A doesn't do any opponent scouts. He's not involved in game-planning. He's not going over film, at least of our current players. I mean why would he? He's a recruiter. While the other assistants are pouring over game film preparing for Illinois, Matt A can be pouring over game film for Mater Dei high school. While the other coaches are watching film from Pitt vs. Ga Tech in order to prepare for Ga Tech, Matt A can pour over film from Pitt vs. Ga Tech to figure out which Pitt player to go after next in the portal. The work Matt A can do on recruiting, theoretically at least, would allow other assistants to spend more time on coaching. In theory. In actuality, it probably does hamstring us to some extent. Matt A can't cover it all. You have to have some pretty well-defined responsibilities so that all the tasks are covered. Does Armon have to do anything on recruiting? If so, what? Do you expect him to deliver any recruits? Is Matt A always the primary recruiter on every prospect? Anyway, I think it can work in theory. In practice, we need to see some more results.1 point -
I think Matt A does all the recruiting so having Loenser in theory improves the pitch by being able to sell having a guy who's worked to improve a laundry list of NBA players.1 point

Good for Tim-- Happy to see him land somewhere he was wanted. Tim's the type of coach that can make you want to like him, so the fact that he is already walking into a situation where is loved as a hire can only play to his benefit. SJSU just got a fan every time they aren't playing the Huskers. I hope, in a few years, he has the opportunity to take it to New Mexico.1 point

I feel like we're the type of school that a player like this doesn't have us in his top 4 unless we're like right there. Like, if someone asks you what your favorite colors are, and you say red, blue, yellow, and Vinaceous, meaning wine-colored, but not all wine, just the reds, you probably really like that color.1 point -
Did I see right, he's only 215 lbs? Hopefully while Andre and Walker continue to get the big minutes, "Nets" can hit Chipotle and the weight room for a year. Anyone know if he can make free throws? I don't think there's any doubt that, when Keisei is in the game, Hoiberg will get him looks and he'll knock them down at a good clip. Our shooters have consistently gotten great looks game after game over the last two years. But, up until the 6 games or so this year, we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I just don't think we're going to play 12 guys significant minutes next year, or ever. And I'm not sure who Keisei supplants in the rotation, especially if we add another transfer guard as expected. That doesn't mean he won't ever play. But right now, I'd be pleasantly surprised if he's anything more than a situational minutes type player in his first year here.1 point -
I expect to be pissed off at the fans/posters who will inevitably build this team up to be something it's not capable of being in the offseason and who eventually turn into whiny crybabies during the season when the team fails to live up to their unrealistic expectations during the course of the season. That's what my expectations are for the 2021-22 season.1 point
