    Man, where do you start?

Regression?!! We had a month-long no-practice hiatus in the middle of the season. Walker didn't get to play in the first half of the season, then played one game before getting Covid. A few other players also got Covid. Now, I know that every one of us geniuses on this board would unaffected in the slightest by a Covid infection. But for a young fella like Walker and other players in that same Covid boat . . . it shouldn't affect their performance or stamina in the slightest, especially when they are playing an actual game like only every other day. They played well for three-fourths of the game against Purdue--were even ahead around that mark. I don't care what anyone's glass is like, an intolerance for difficulties in such circumstances is . . . kinda weird.

  2. He seems like a team player and a positive influence. If you can have a dude like that riding your pine without taking up a scholarship who can come in and score when you need that, seems like a no-lose proposition.

  5. It seems like we're building some sort of culture as in we figured out how to play B1G level defense and our motion and cuts are improved. I think a big start would be not shedding too many players....about 2-3 seems optimal as that allows you to pursue a PG. Maybe the landscape will be very different this year with a plethora of seniors deciding they want to come back for one more year but I don't think it's realistic for us to dump a bunch of players and expect to land other players that are significantly more talented.

  6. One last observation.... Coley has it goin on. She has adjusted in just a few minutes/games of play. Already is up to the speed of the game. Clearly is not intimated at all. She was barking at the ref when the ball went out of bounds near her....I had to laugh at her "pre" freshman toughness already. She was in High School a few weeks ago : ) amazing... Hit a three and blocked a shot, no turnovers today in a few minutes of play. The off season and fall ball will do even more to get her ready for next season. No 40 rated is clearly evident and worthy of the rating. I won't make any predictions about her about next year but have a guess.

  8. For me it is the type of turnovers. Just careless with the ball and it seems they turn into layups on the other end.

  9. She seems to be one of our better passers. She doesn't panic, and finds the open player. We might want to use her more when teams are applying full court pressure. Handling the press is still a challenge for us. We did handle it better than usual yesterday. They must be working on it. I also liked the inbound plays under our own bucket. We didn't make them all, but the design was good. For a brief time, late in the game, it looked like the players were instructed to run some clock. That didn't work. We're not good at it. Penn State cut into the lead immediately. Thank goodness, they went back to a normal pace and extended the lead. Probably something they will work on. Satisfying game to watch, for sure. Well done ladies.

  10. I feel like I am always one who is right on the edge of fully condemning our programs and jumping off the bridge... But, fellas, this year could not have worked against us more than it did. I am attempting to mentally forget both this Football and Basketball season for our Huskers, and move on to next year.

  11. We're trying to crater towards the bottom of the FT% barrel again as our 3 centers are shooting 41% on the year. However even if you took away those numbers it would be a below average 66.8% instead of 62.4%. Maybe Hoiberg needs to pull a George Costanza and do the opposite of what he's been doing with FTs.

  17. We are adding players to the roster who currently have skillsets zero people on our current roster have. Bryce will end scoring draughts by himself. Tominaga will be a pesky, Gallegos type threat (worse defender, better shooter), and WB is a very skilled big who can stretch the floor. Those are pieces (particularly Bryce) that give Fred seemingly infinite more rotation options. When I watch us play a competitive half of basketball against the top teams in the country, I'm encouraged by our roster. We don't have the horses for halftime personnel or rotation adjustments. Most of the better B1G teams do. Walker being in the lineup has helped, but we need an option at the 5 to stretch the court because I don't think anyone can stay in front of our other guys in ISO. WB might really help us there to change up the look in spot minutes for Walker. I also can't emphasize this enough: we have a legitimate home court advantage at PBA when there are fans. I think this team will be really fun to watch at home with their athleticism next season.

  20. I would say that the B1G, collectively throughout major male sport, has basically thrown our idea of being "zig when everyone zags," out the window. It's pretty clear there's only a zag in the B1G. You either have 5-star talent across the board and you're gonna win however you do it... Or you get old, stay old, play methodically, fundamentally, and tough.

If covid is a factor with guys it might be one of those deals you hear about after the season because teams don't want you to know how to attack them.

uffda HAMILTON -- Colgate Women's Basketball is forgoing the final two weeks of 2020-21 after yet another season-ending injury. The Raiders have been attempting all year to put together a successful campaign after having begun play back in January with four players out for the season because of injury. Despite that, Colgate began this year's abbreviated schedule with high hopes thanks to a convincing win at Army to open the season. It looked like the perfect carryover from last year's terrific 19-win showing. But the injuries never abated and the season-ending list increased to five and then six and now seven, with more Raiders doubtful for a return to action over the next two weeks. Thus, the difficult yet necessary decision was made to halt play at nine games completed. "We appreciate our medical team and administration putting the needs and safety of our student-athletes first and foremost," Raiders head coach Bill Cleary said. "Despite how things have gone, I'm extremely proud of this team and the fight they showed throughout. "They are looking forward to getting a fresh start and picking up where we left off with such a good feeling after last season." In place of a traditional Senior Day game, plans are in the works to honor Nia Ahart and Keelah Dixon, celebrating their accomplishments and recognizing their families for four years of support and achievement within the Colgate women's basketball program.

    PENN STATE GAME DAY THREAD

Congrats ladies! Great to get consecutive wins. Contributions by all. Scoggin with career highs; Bourne indeed deserves player of the week honors; Haiby; Cain particularly with her D; Stewart had 10 big points in the 2nd. I'm probably forgetting someone. Defense on Cash much better. GBR!

  30. Where do you start? By beating PSU again. If not, Minnesota and Rutgers, in Lincoln, can be had. And the game at Northwestern, in my mind, is a toss-up. Then steal one in the conference tournament and build on that. That's where you start.

  31. It didn't work out the way NU wanted on Fri. due to untimely poor play, so that was unfortunate. In the rematch the Huskers played much better all around & got it right to sweep the Gophs today 25-17, 25-15, 25-22.

  32. This is a really good point - lazy passes that lead to live ball turnovers have killed us quite frequently. When you think about how good our 1/2 court defense has been, giving up these turnover/dunks is a killer. It feels like Fred is pulling guys after they make these lazy passes a little more frequently lately ... but I also may just be seeing what I want to see.

  33. Win that third set in the first matchup and you might be looking at a sweep to Minnesota.

  34. We need to have at least 3 of these return: Mayen, Teddy, Walker (all will be 5th year), Banton (4th year). Otherwise, I'd consider it another "rebuilding" team that finishes below .500 in the BIG. As it is, we're going to be starting a freshman (although a very talented one) and maybe a new PG. That is not the formula for a breakthrough year. On the positive side, don't look now but our KenPom defense is down to 50. That's NCAA level. But our offense is an unfathomable 224, between Morehead State and Purdue Fort Wayne.

  35. Then throw in the 3 "pick 6's" we throw early. That's another 6 points.

  36. I'm counting nine missed layups in the play-by-play: Walker Stevenson Andre Andre Ouedraogo Mayen McGowens Walker Webster Other than Teddy, NOBODY finishes at the rim on this team. On Edit: That's 18 points. We lost by 17.

  37. There are times when we look like a competitive team but those are few compared to when we look like we don’t know what we are doing. The frustration for me, is the same type of play keeps recurring game after game.

  41. I believe this team matches up well with several teams in the B1G but still trail the dominate teams by a fair margin. Would love to see the Huskers finish strong and beat Iowa. Coach Williams has produced more with this group than I thought possible in December.

    Kendall Coley

One article I read said it was a big issue with Coley. They were fiends for a long time, and agreed that it would be great if they both (Orr and Coley ) could be at the same school for college. Orr in volleyball, and Coley in basketball. Coley said it was one of the factors in her decision.

Well interesting to see one of her best friends is Kennedi Orr, who could very well be the top recruit coming out in 2021 to play volleyball at NE. Doesn't hurt to have one of your best friends going to the same school.

Coley is the nation's No. 32 overall prospect — and No. 2 wing — for the 2021 class, according to Prospects Nation. The 6-foot-2 guard had a strong list of offers, including from Ohio State, Washington, Michigan and hometown Minnesota. She averaged 15.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists for St. Louis Park.
