  1. I think it's multi-factorial. Some guys just aren't blessed with shooting touch and other guys have it in spades. Some guys can just toss the ball toward the rim and it goes in; others couldn't hit the ocean if they fell out of a boat. Mechanics matter for a variety of reasons. Bad mechanics can result in a slow windup and delivery, which means you'd have to have more space to get the shot off even if you were one of those guys who could throw it at the rim and swish it. The third factor is feel rather than thought. You have to turn off the part of your brain that thinks "how strong do I need to shoot it to get it that far?" and just let muscle memory take over. Guys who miss more than their ability suggests they should are probably thinking too much. It's hard to turn off that conscious thought process and let muscle memory take over when you're pressing and worried about your slump and the team's struggles. Going out and hitting a couple can cure some of that. It's why you want a guy to shoot himself out of a slump. Keep giving him the green light. Hopefully it'll pay off. I think that's what we're doing with Lat and Thor but Thor has almost given up taking shots.

  2. Well Ashley Scoggin may warrant something more than just 'faint praise.' This is a Team Sport. All Eight players available to play in this game contributed significant minutes in this Win; And We Needed Every One of Them! We should be celebrating Every Win, because, God knows, they are hard to come by.

  3. What a performance! Huskers played with focus, organization, and effort all the way. This is what will be required to remain competitive with teams possessing more quickness and athleticism. Yesterday I saw the fight and determination that was evident during AW's second season but has often been hard to find since. GREAT JOB all around, ladies. It especially great to see Scoggins and Brown hit the 3s. Of course there are a few recurring problems that i hope we will see less of the most annoying to watch are 1) lazy lob passes over defenders capable of grabbing them out of the sky and 2) bigs holding the ball long enough and loosely enough for quick handed opponents to swat them loose.

  4. I see that the Huskers a 7.5 pt dog. So the point guard Rocket Watts is struggling with his shot, So today will be the day that he gets right. Just like all of the other players that have been struggling when they face us . They seem to right the ship against us. Enjoy today's video.

  5. One thing I liked about the last game is Fred basically let Eduardo foul out and learn what it's like to rack them up. We never did that with Jordy and it drove me crazy. Let bigs foul out so they learn how to stop fouling. I don't think Eduardo is soft at all, but I don't think he's mean. That's one thing I love about Yvan. He's not nice about rebounding or defense. I wish he could power up to the hoop with the same anger. Eduardo is already a much better offensive player than Yvan, and his length is going to develop more and more in the PnR with Banton (I hope).

  6. Hoping Illinois-Purdue doesn't go into OT It sure was nice of Illinois to brick multiple 3s in the first 5 minutes to give Purdue a good scout for the Boilers game Tuesday with NU.

  7. ‘Very funny, I saw that kid and thought he reminds me of Andre. Also FYI the kid that hit that shot is John Tonje from Omaha Central. That kid is a good story, really made himself into a D1 player

  8. Yes, Norm! This is one of my biggest hopes for Walker. A legit threat to score at the rim on pick and rolls plus a big body which won't get pushed around and can play post defense. Have no idea if this is what will transpire but here's to keeping hope alive.

  11. Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-6) vs #17 Michigan St Spartans (6-4) Date: Saturday Jan 1st, 2021 Time: 7:00 p.m. Arena: Pinnacle Bank Arena Broadcast: BTN Michigan St Spartans Head Coach: Tom Izzo Location: East Lansing, MI Conference: B1G Nickname: Spartans Mascot: Sparty Line: Michigan St by 8.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 10+ KenPom rank: 52 This was an informative session, as they tend to be after you come off a big loss. Hoiberg talked about putting in a simple set to provide structure to feeding the ball to guys. Who are we trying to set up? Hoiberg talks about feeding the ball into the paint for posting up and specifically mentions Teddy and Dalano. He also mentions that when setting the offense there isn't organization at some points. Have to wonder if McGowens shifts more into more of a ball handler. Fred was worn out from not sleeping, fell asleep at 9:45 on New Years Eve. The team spent the day before New Years working out their frustrations during practice. On the first they were 'sore and ornery' and they were taking the day a little easier to be fresh for the game. Hoiberg talked about Michigan St also being in a slump and that they had a similar problem before 'getting right' and winning out the rest of the year. Not sure if HCFH know that the get right game for the Spartans was a 20 point thumping at the PBA Players to watch: Rocket Watts Replacing Cassius Winston is no small task and combo guard Rocket Watts is struggling in a sense to do so. He's certainly distributing the ball like everyone else on an Izzo team but he's taking the majority of the shots when he's on the court and not hitting. For a team like Nebraska that has struggled defending dominant PGs, making Watts try to beat you seems like a good strategy. Players to watch: Joey Hauser Had to sit out a year after transferring from Marquette but the sophomore center is today's big man, capable of posting up in the paint and shooting at a high percentage from 3 while having a nose from rebounding. Roster points PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 2 Rocket Watts 6-2 185 So 1 Joshua Langford 6-5 200 Sr 0 Aaron Henry 6-6 210 Jr 15 Thomas Kithier 6-8 230 Jr 20 Joey Hauser 6-9 220 Jr 13.8 Michigan St might have a similar problem to Nebraska in terms of not quite having a traditional take-charge PG. Rocket Watts is more of a combo guard and nobody is Cassius Winston. Izzo plays a lot of dudes. Joshua Langford can still shoot but he's not quite the player he was prior to two years worth of injuries Slasher Aaron Henry has also struggled with his shot this year Kithier is your classic 'why is Izzo starting this guy' if you just look at box scores. Kithier is your classic sized Izzo post player who grabs rebounds and is a glue guy. Foster Loyer is your 6'0" PG who shoots 3s 6'7" Jr Gabe Brown is a 3 way scorer coming off the bench As this is a holiday issue, let me just wind up by saying that Michigan St plays a bunch of guys off the bench and maybe some of them will come in and have themselves a game. Worth mentioning that Jack Hoiberg is a junior who got the start last year in Lincoln. I'd only expect to see him in this one if the game gets out of hand. The Skinny: While I'm sure you're aware of Nebraska's troubles in conference play, did you know that Michigan St is also 0-3 in conference and coming off an embarrassing loss? I can only imagine the hues of red Izzo was the day of and after the 25 point beat down in Minnesota. Expect both teams to come out punching in this one, hopefully just in a metaphorical sense. Both teams are going to try and work their way into the paint and both are going to start defending like it's the last 2 minutes in a NBA game. Between two fragile type teams, look for the winner to be the first one to establish a run tonight. We can hope that some of the wrinkles that Hoiberg has added or maybe even simply turning the calendar to 2021 will be the spark Nebraska needs. Prediction: Michigan St 82 - Nebraska 70 View full article

  12. GBAF is an awesome way to start the thread. The kinda groove that just makes you not care what happens, as long as it involves several truckloads of drugs. :)

  17. That's a big part of the problem and certainly no mystery. You have a black hole where your floor-spacers should be. The other problem is the we have a black hole where our roll man on the P&R should be. All of those things cause us to be severely anemic on the offensive end.

    The flop rule

I remember they called it a bunch at the start of whatever season it was when they either put the rule in place or maybe just made it a rule of emphasis. The frequency of that call waned as they season when on and it basically back to the level it was before the at. I’ll see it more as the signal for making a no call then actually making it a foul or whatever.

  23. Well as someone pointed out elsewhere; the ball has to go IN the basket to count as an assist.

  27. Recruiting can only go so fast, but Fred has essentially already flipped the roster. The kids just aren't here yet. I don't think it unwise to expect a massive shift next season. Bryce McGowens isn't some overhyped JUCO star. He's a bonafide program changer--possibly the best SG recruit in the country. He's the freshman who goes to KU or Kentucky or Duke and starts day 1. With him in the lineup, we can: 1. Have an unguardable player who can score from anywhere. 2. Allow Trey to be an absolute soldier on defense whose primary purpose is to make someone's life hell for 30 minutes. He obviously has his offensive shortcomings, but he is a world class defender and athlete. I love watching him play defense. 3. Take legitimate pressure off of Banton as a ball-handler. He can do everything Banton can do offensively--not as good of a passer but a much better scorer. Either guy can initiate the offense or play off the ball. 4. Give us crazy length on the defensive perimeter without giving up any athleticism. Add snipers to that dude and it's a completely different team. I'm not seeing a bunch of bad players. I'm seeing an incomplete roster of role players who are being asked to do too much. Trey, Teddy (most of the time), Lat, Kobe, Derrick, Yvan, and Trevor are all role players--ones I'd be happy to have on any team. But they can't be role players if the squad doesn't have any stars. Delano is a budding star in another year. Bryce will arrive as one. Keisei and Wilhelm are optimistic question marks, but they both bring skills we don't currently have and are required for Fred's system. So rather than sulk too much about a team that can't score in droves, I'm choosing to picture some really good role players on next year's roster and enjoy their competitive spirit when they bring it this season. The cupboard ain't bare. It's just not stocked yet.
