  1. Expect to have success in the paint. Just feel we're stronger inside than in years past. Offensively and defensively. Cain, Bella, Stewart, and Izzy. Also expect for Creighton to try to have some answer for their lack of size. Kind of comes down to they have to make shots. They may try to push the ball downcourt on fast breaks...we can not fall asleep, ..must get back on defense.

  2. Inside scoring will likely have to counter their 3 pt. shooting. We had better be active on the boards, with few 2+ chance opps. per possession for CU.

  3. with Creighton being fairly "small", you would think this has the potential for Cain to have a decent game rebounding and scoring. Creighton has one player that is listed at 6'2" (Parham...sp?) and she avg's about 10 minutes per game. be pretty disappointing if Cain can't get some points in the paint. hope Bella has another good game rebounding...would think she starts again.

  5. Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) at Creighton Bluejays (1-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, 5 p.m. (CT) D.J. Sokol Arena (1,500) - Omaha, Neb. Live TV: NET (Larry Punteney, Brenda VanLengen)Live Radio: Husker Sports Network (4:45 p.m.)Matt Coatney (PBP), Jeff Griesch (Analyst)Lincoln (B107.3 FM); Omaha (ESPN 590 AM)Huskers.com, Huskers App, TuneIn It's Creighton again. They live and die for beating Nebraska. They could be 0-20 but still have their best game of the year against us. They live by the three. and have a couple that can shoot them. They usually don't make lots of errors, or turnovers. We must defend the perimeter. We got beat last year with poor perimeter defense.

  6. Creighton is hitting shots because they are taking good shots. Out rebounding us which is inexcusable.

  7. One team knows how to play intensive defense, the other no so much. It's called hustle, blocking out...which we don't do. I've seen Cravens and Issy do it...don't know where they learned it

    Trevor Lakes is N

Let's not put any expectations on the kid, but let's not sell him short either. The kid can shoot.

If I could make a hockey analogy, it feels like we have two guys in the penalty box right now and we're short-handed. We won't be full strength until sometime mid-January. It's entirely possible that Eduardo Andre isn't all that, but his measurables would lead you to believe he could do some things that would help the team. I mean, not only is he our tallest player by a couple of inches, but he's got a wingspan of almost 7 1/2 feet. And he's pretty athletic. So, can he catch and dunk? Would opposing teams have to guard him on the screen and roll? Can he beat opposing bigs down the floor in a footrace in transition? One thing is for sure: beyond any shadow of a doubt, once he returns and is available for action, he has 5 fouls to give. Those 5 fouls might come in handy down the line.

  10. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~GRIT; NO QUIT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Nebraska women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2020-21 when the Huskers travel to Omaha to collide with Creighton. Nebraska improved to 3-0 on the season by opening Big Ten play with a 78-72 victory over Illinois at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night. Junior guard Sam Haiby led the Huskers with a career-high 33 points, including 21 in the second half, to fuel a Nebraska rally from a five-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter. She added nine rebounds and four assists in the game, while scoring six points during a decisive 13-0 Husker run over a three-minute span in the fourth quarter. Scouting Creighton Coach Jim Flanery brings Creighton into Monday's game against Nebraska with a 1-3 record after a 88-41 win at Butler in CU's BIG EAST opener. Prior to the win, Creighton got off to an 0-3 start against traditionally strong regional opponents, a 75-62 loss to Drake in CU's only home game, a 55-52 loss at Northern Iowa and a 66-47 loss at nationally ranked South Dakota State. As a team, Creighton continues to love the three, connecting on an average of 9-of-25 threes per game early this season (36-110, .327). In the win over Butler, CU buried 15-of-34 long-range attempts, outscoring Butler 45-9 from beyond the arc. Overall, the Jays are shooting just 35.3 percent (84-238) from the field. CU is outstanding at the stripe, connecting on 81.8 percent (45-55) of its free throws. Despite being a bit undersized, Creighton has held its own on the glass (35.0-37.5). The Jays own a plus-2.3 turnover margin.

  11. Mich St beat Iowa by about 6 yesterday. They're both pretty good. Iowa: Clark is good...can shoot, overall good game, and she not bashful about shooting. Their big is pretty good, but the guards are their strength. MIch State can shoot well overall. Solid team. They'll be tough foes in the B1G

  13. Re-watched the second half since that is obviously where things went very south. A few things that stuck out... 1. We love to ball watch. Creighton got a ton of baskets because all five sets of eyes were glued to the basketball. Whether it was shooters in transition, cuts, or drives, we were quite often playing a step behind defensively in the second half. 2. With that said, what really made Creighton great in that second half was once they got an advantage (due to poor closeout, offensive action, etc.) they NEVER let up. We were always in rotation because we were always trying to play catchup. 3. Believe it or not, Creighton didn't really run many actions in the second half. In the half court, they really got us with two actions. They slipped a lot of guard to guard screens which requires excellent and consistent communication to defend, which we do not have. They also set a lot of double ball screens with their 5 and shooter with the shooter always popping, which tended to be a slip as well. Just off the action alone, not counting after-play, they got two wide open 3's and two layups. 4. I really felt bad for Thor out there. There were times where he had to guard like four guys because of how much other guys were getting beat. 5. Banton and Trey weren't great defensively either. Trey had the WTF moment of the game where he picks up at about half court and literally just stops playing. The guy drove, forced Thor to help, and kicked to his man for an open corner three 6. To wrap up, key issues seemed to be eye discipline, communication, and effort, and obviously mental fortitude when things aren't going well. Luckily, none require 5 star or top 100 skill. A great opponent to play before Big 10 play because they really had to make us be smart and locked in to the scouting report all game. While the conference is loaded, there might only be about 3-5 teams that attack us with the level of shooting, smarts, and experience that Creighton has

Ready to play for the next game and it sounds like Trevor Lakes might be as well and still have a year left for next year.

  27. If I were Creighton, I would defend end to end. Contest every inbound pass. Pressure, pressure, pressure. I think they are undermanned, and need to force turnovers or have an exceptional shooting game, to win. Regardless of their game plan, it is another excellent learning opportunity, for our Lady Huskers. It has been fun, watching the team develop and gel, game by game. GBR

  29. The good news is at this time last year, kenpom had us at #128 and we finished at #132. THIS year, we're at 114, fellas. That's 14 spots BETTER than a year ago. AND, get this, because the league is stronger this year in the non-con, we're likely to benefit because of our strength of schedule. So, don't look now, but we could very easily crack the top 110 before all is said and done. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. Now where's the Mylanta?

  32. you'd think the'd be drilling this in practice with him. just a game of pass in/pass out around the perimeter in high speed, so they train him to do it without thinking. Maybe just don't have the time for it yet, but the guys could do that on their own. Doc did this with his bigs at Southern Miss. It's basically a medicine ball drill with a basketball.

  33. They also don't pass it in because he doesn't pass it back out. He has ONE assist on the season. Even if he can't score, if he could help the team if he passed better.

  34. While Yvan might not be the only problem for this team, his ineffectiveness on the offensive end effectively throws a stick in the spokes of this offense. One of the most effective components of this offense is kicking the ball inside, which leads to either an easy 2’ shot, or an open kick-out 3 (which is arguably the highest percentage 3 PT shot in this offense). The kick out 3PT shot would make an enormous difference for our entire offense, but most notably for Lat, because he is the least capable of creating his own shot. I’ve seen multiple times guys like Allen, Banton, Trey, etc... literally look right at Yvan and, even though they could easily get him the ball, they choose not to (likely because they realize it’s basically like a turnover to give him the ball, even though every now and then the blind squirrel finds a nut). So they keep the ball moving around the perimeter, which doesn’t stress the defensive rotation and doesn’t generate kick out 3 PT shots for guys like Lat to get their open looks. And the lack of that high percentage 3 PT threat allows the defense to sag and help and take away driving lanes to the hoop. And my guess is that if Lat was getting his open 3PT looks, he wouldn’t be putting the ball on the floor and trying to get to the rim to score...to me, that is a product of the fact that he knows that this offense needs him to be a contributor, so when he doesn’t get those 3s, he tries to force the issue by taking it to the rack, which his skill set isn’t adequate to do successfully.

  36. Maybe the most angry I've ever been at an opponent. Grant Gibbs cheap shot on Petteway then wouldn't let him get up. Petteway got T'd up for it, then Gibbs winked at McDermott. I never had respect for Gibbs, but I lost respect for McDermott after that game. He was asked about it in the press conference. He smiled and said, "Grant Gibbs, that's my guy."

FWIW Here's my take-away from the interview. Not a lot of specifics, but good on generalities: Disadvantage for a team with a lot roster turnover and new players being unable to practice due to COVID. First couple of opponents have advantage of playing a couple of game while this will be our first game Can rotate PG among several different players: Haiby, Helms, & Scoggin mentioned. Izzy Bourne - stepping up, we’ll have experience in the front court Trinity Brady - defensively solid, showing a lot more confidence Newcomers Annika Stewart - best 3 point threat, and versatile in front court. Bella Cravens – fits in well, lot of potential, has a nose for ball Ruby Porter - shows ability to score in bunches; a little inconsistent, typical of newcomers Ashley Scoggin - a hard worker, real Gym Rat MiCole Cayton – not 100% cleared yet to play yet due to (prior) injury Nailah Dillard – equally good on defense & offense, but nursing injury. May not play this season Per Matt Coatney - almost all wbb games will be on cable or video-streamed. BTN+ will carry his audio commentary (at least for the first game)

  39. Fred kept local kid, who then chose to take his ball and go elsewhere. Fred tried to recruit a Omaha kid and didn't make his top 11. There has been communication here, maybe Traudt told Fred and company they didn't have a chance (speculation on this). Isn't there at least one more kid from Omaha Fred is looking at? Which Div 1 football players did we not look at?
