I watched the preseason game vs. Doane last year with a buddy of mine who's a KU fan. He made the comment, "You guys might not win 6 games this year." He was pretty close. That's essentially what Fred and Doc were trying to tell us before the season, too. We won that game by 30, but had a ton of turnovers, shooting was awful and it doesn't take long to tell if you have players who don't belong at this level (which is verified by the schools they all transferred to). Fred's attitude when talking about this team is much different than last year. We have a bunch of guys who have already proven they belong at this level. They seem to be meshing well. Only 5 more days and we'll see what it looks like when it counts.

  6. On her show coach Williams alluded to the fact that the fans haven't really seen the real Trinity Brady and she has been doing well in practice. In my opinion Helms and Cayton have not shown they can play well after their multiple injuries. So to me I wouldn't count on them. The key is Scoggins who we really need to help at the point. She has had several knee surgeries in the past but unlike the other two played played for a full season last year and did well. She is an excellent shooter and knows the point guard position picking up numerous JC honors on a team that won their region.

  7. Wow. Honestly? This makes me feel a lot more optimistic about the upcoming season. It looks like guys who you wouldn’t have expected to be solid shooters based on numbers put up at their last stops have really stepped up their game. The length we can put on the floor is very encouraging. And that was just crazy how Lat Mayen hit 86 of 100 three-pointers in a drill followed by 83 of 100. I think we’ll be able to shoot and will certainly be able to rebound a hell of a lot better than last year. Our defense should be better just because it looks like we have guys who care.

    New article on Women's team

I called in to the coach and Mike show the other night and asked the the following. "With the advent of losing Taylor Kissinger whom we all really liked, what options do you have at the 3 position this year". Amy said that Trinity Brady and Ruby Porter have been playing some there but they also have been playing Izzy Bourne there as well. She can handle the ball, play defense and rebound. Amy said she has also been working hard at extending her range from the outside. I hadn't considered her there but I really like it.

  11. Well, we're here. We're one week away from the start of the season. Or is it less than one week? Who knows. I'm just going to start this thread and adjust the opponent once it's more clear. For those who are new to this game, check out the HHCC scoring and rules. But in layman's terms, just join. It's free, good for the HHC community, helps break up the season lulls, and you can prove that you're smarter than Ken Pomeroy. As mentioned in the 2020-2021 Scoring and Rules thread, this season's HHCC is going to take some patience and community involvement. Schedules may change on a dime. I will try to create some flexibility in the bonuses and I'll try my best to keep up with the constantly changing scheduling. HHCC Scoring and Rules: https://huskerhoopscentral.com/forums/topic/14733-2020-2021-hhcc-scoring-and-rules/ THREE THINGS THIS HHCC ROUND: 1) Your score prediction for Nebraska vs. McNeese State (as usual). 2) BONUS (-5 points): Predicting the winning percentage of non-conference season (currently Nov. 25-Dec. 9) -- (e.g. I am looking for an answer like "100%," which indicates the percentage of: Nebraska Wins / Total Nebraska Non-Conference Games.) Because there are a lot of unknowns due to COVID-19 this season, I am switching from absolute number of wins to winning percentage. This is something that hasn't been done before, but we'll give it a shot. Based on some quick scenario analyses, I'm going to give a +/- 15 percentage point grace range for your prediction. For instance, if you predict a 50% winning percentage, I will accept 35% thru 65% if Nebraska's non-conference winning percentage falls within that window. This will provide some flexibility if Nebraska is forced to cancel any games for any reason (a cancelled game will not count toward Nebraska's Total Game count). Note, I will do something similar for conference predictions, but the grace range will be much lower due to there being many more games in comparison. 3) *Predicting the winning percentage of the entire regular season (non-conference + conference) (currently Nov. 25-Mar. 6) -- (e.g. I am looking for an answer like "100%," which indicates the percentage of: Nebraska Wins / Total Nebraska Games.) * This will not count as a bonus (and it will not count against you), but in the past years it has been a missing data point of interest that would've been useful in seeing how closely we have come to predicting the outcome of the season If anything is unclear, please ask. I tried to give flexibility while still setting the expectations around that flexibility, but that doesn't mean all the holes in the system have been addressed. If any of those things have not been addressed and we encounter an issue down the road, I'll try my best to make a reasonable judgment decision should that arise. More importantly, let's have some fun with this.

  19. i retain the point of view husker fans are just not going to see that much of Helms (and...i always have stated i hope she proves me wrong, but, with her chronic condition?) Scoggins---isn't it at least 3 acl surgeries? one surgery was botched. Cayton---acl, maybe twice? Brady---out a chunk of last season to concussion issues? plus, i believe she was in a car accident during her hs career and they weren't sure if she could play again due to head trauma? hoping that doesn't become an issue. yes, fans are inquisitive so we sit at our computers/phones and wonder if the injuries are related to past issues. pretty sure of the one, though.

  20. Not to be too repetitious from what has already been said... We recruited several players that have injury histories, so to have the same issues now...it would seem is kind of expected. Could have a couple on the bench unable to play some of then time? But we have lots of options like was described about Bourne. If she can move out to the three, them Coach must feel she's got some others (Cravens, Stewart) besides Cain, to fill in down low. I guess without seeing the "newbies" in person would think Cain and Borne would be a good combo at the 4 & 5...but combinations obviously depend on what you have to work with. Such a new squad makes it tough to get a full roster of "Williams" experience on the floor together. Apparently we'll have very few non conference games. This new roster needs time on the floor together...that makes getting into a flow early... a tall task. The next couple of years look real good on paper, just get them game experience and even Coach Cooks influence...who knows how far we can go. Cook just has the ability to put together teams that play consistently at a high level...real news to everyone here of course.

  27. Keep in mind, too, that Creighton has a game at Allen Fieldhouse against Kansas on the 8th. So that is clearly the red circle date on their non-con schedule. Maybe a trap game opportunity there... ...just kidding, they'll still beat us by 25, but the preseason is a bit like walking out of QuikTrip with a powerball ticket...plenty of opportunities to dream about.

Thanks for posting that Miller. That was awesome. Coach Hoiberg did a really good job with that zoom and answering questions. I love when he talks nuts&bolts with the .5 and 4 pt line etc in the play breakdown. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Schedule

According to Sam's article in the OWH it sounds like the front court is in good shape but they are really scrambling at guard. Also in the article it is the first time that I heard that Bourne was going to be a captain. I haven't looked at it yet but they have just released the men's schedule.

  31. Watching his highlights, he understands floor spacing so well. He moves well without the ball, but it isn't a situation where he's moving just to move. It has a purpose, as he's looking to put himself on a spot on the floor to be ready to freely catch and shoot. Also love the shooting stroke, as he never seems to be in a rush, yet he's able to get the shot off pretty easily, regardless of how close the defender is to him. Granted, it's not Big Ten level defenders, but with his ability to understand passing angles and spacing, I'd imagine he'll be in a good spot to shoot it off the catch more often than not. Not to mention he won't be bothered backing a few feet off the 3-pt line if needed. Appreciate that some of his highlights show misses, as you can see his soft touch on those misses. The rebounds on his misses aren't careening wildly 15 feet from the basket. They look more like rebounds you'd have off a missed free throw. Can he play defense at the Big Ten level? Unclear. But he doesn't seem to have much fear in his offensive game, so I'd imagine he'll stick his nose in there and mix it up and play hard on the defensive end. Plus he won't be able to understand a word of Doc's drawl, so he'll have no idea if he's in trouble or not, which should aid in the confidence. (Burning question: How bad will Doc butcher his name?)

    Fred...

I told my friends for a long time before we hired him (towards the end of his time with the Bulls when there was talk of him getting fired) that if we’re ever looking for a new coach, the first guy they should reach out to was Fred Hoiberg due to his connections to Lincoln and the university. Every single person laughed at me. Guess who is laughing now?
