I may or may not have found a box score for this scrimmage that may or may not have been accidentally posted somewhere and Teddy Allen may or may not have put up 29 points in a 21-point Red team win that included a 35-9 run to start the second half.

    Nebraska Recruiting

Just read, Trey and Bryce McGowens have a little sister that is a freshman in high school. Sounds like basketball comes naturally to her too. Coach Williams might have an opportunity to get a recruiting head start with this young lady. I imagine the family will be in Lincoln quite a bit in the next couple of years, watching the boys play. Never too early to start working on the 2024 class. I would bet money, John Cook has been for awhile.

  3. For the class of 2022, Jasen Green might be one to keep an eye on. Not sure if we have a legitimate shot at landing Gradey Dick, but he has mentioned Nebraska and Hoiberg in a couple interviews now. He’s crazy good.

  4. One thought occurred to me driving home and listening to the radio. I don't know what Kent Pavelka's plans are but I really hope he is calling games through next season and beyond. If anyone deserves to see Nebraska win and win big, it's that guy!!! I really hope he gets to call our first tournament win and then several more after that.

I've followed basketball recruiting closely for almost a couple decades now. Every year there are 5 stars who shouldn't be 5 stars. Usually they're uber athletic kids with no actual basketball skill. This is frustrating, because they end up getting labeled as a bust by their school's fanbase and the media, but in reality they should have never been that highly ranked to begin with. I hate to put too much hype on a kid, but as a recruit, Bryce is underrated. I think he's a top 10 or 15 recruit in this class. Jaden Hardy is the only guard I'd for sure put ahead of him. Maybe Max Christie and Trevor Keels. Many 5 star recruits end up struggling their freshman year, but Bryce has a skill that'll translate to the next level even if he struggles in every other aspect of the game. He can flat out shoot the ball. He has legitimate NBA range right now and his 1-motion shot (a la Steph Curry and Trae Young) allows for that range and to get off his shot very quickly. His stroke is so compact and repeatable. Go watch some of Bryce's high school games on Youtube. The competition he played at Wren was solid, but his teammates were rough to watch. He was face-guarded everywhere he went. A lot of his shots were off the dribble and heavily contested, and he still has shot 42% from 3 in his high school career as a high volume shooter. I'm gonna compare him to Hunter Sallis again, because Husker fans are more familiar with Hunter than other high profile recruit. Both guys play on and off the ball for their high school teams and can be called combo guards. Both have tight handles and pretty good court vision. Bryce is a couple inches taller and longer. People rave about Hunter's athleticism and the only knock on Bryce seems to be his lack of explosiveness. But, there are videos of Bryce damn near hitting his head on the rim... Due to his long and lanky build, it almost looks like he's playing in slow motion. I think he has sneaky athleticism like James Palmer. I believe Bryce played AGAINST better players in SC, but Hunter played WITH much better players at Millard North (all 5 starters on last years team will play D1. 4 of them will be at Power 5 schools). Usually kids that have to carry their high school team, do it with low efficiency and low shooting percentages. Bryce averaged more points, rebounds, steals, blocks and less turnovers than Hunter. He's also a much better shooter. Hunter made 27/88 three point attempts for 31%. Bryce has shot 542 threes over the past 3 years! At a 42% clip. Hunter's mid-range game is his best offense at this point, but that'll likely have to change in college, due to his slower release and increased athleticism of his defenders. I like Hunter and think he'll be just fine at the next level. But if I'm a coach and had to choose only one of these guys to win with next year, I'm taking Bryce and it's not really close for me.

  6. The nice thing is... with Bryce, someone took the leap. Some 5* solid player said “I’m going to do it” and now it opens the door for others to join him. Bryce is leading the flock. Now we just need to see how many more will come. There’s no glass ceiling anymore. It’s broken. Prospects can now finally say “well Bryce McGowens did it... why can’t I?”

Nebraska Basketball gains the commitment of the first 5 star freshman in school history as Bryce McGowens chooses the Huskers over Georgia. The combination of family connections (will play alongside brother Trey next year) and Fred Hoiberg's fast paced offense proved to be an offer to good to pass up for McGowens, ranked in the top 30 for the class of 2021 by most national recruiting services. The 6'6" McGowens is noted for his size and skill combination and deep shooting range Initially signed to Florida St, McGowens decommitted in October of 2020 and Nebraska immediately entered into the picture with their previous recruitment of Bryce and Trey McGowens' presence. Well crap...

Not expecting one soul to feel bad about it --- but I will miss attending a home football game today for the first time since 1984. I will likely miss attending a home basketball game for only the second time since 1984(Chicago State game I believe). It more than sucks, but what.are.u.going.to.do.you.know.what.i.mean). This 2020 Covid crap is really starting to tork me off. We cannot find a working vaccine fast enough.

  11. He is a superb shooter and I mean superb. He can score efficiently at all three levels but he is a superb shooter with NBA three point range. He’s good at everything; doesn’t have any real weaknesses; but his shooting is definitely his strength.

I assume people meant Levert the college player. If we’re talking the NBA player, he definitely is a poor man’s version. He did sign a $52.5M deal after all...

  14. According to this site, Eduardo Andre was born in 2001. Yvan Ouedraogo was born in March 2002. Andre is at least three months older and maybe as many as 14 months older than Ouedraogo.

  16. From what's been shared in here (primarily him being an OU fan), I'm not holding my breath on this one. Would be a PERFECT fit. There's 6 open for that 2022 class right now and he has to be atop the list I'd hasn't to imagine. Winning will solve a lot of this guessing also.

It is very rare to find a truly talented wing with length, athleticism, ball-handling skills, basketball IQ, body control and true 3-level scoring. McGowens is almost an ideal wing, can't wait to watch him live at PBA. He may have to put on some muscle to bang night in and night out in the B1G, but he should be able to get there. His brother certainly has strength and a solid frame, so the potential should be there. When I watched his video I was struck by how smooth he is on the court. The scouting reports say he is not an explosive athlete, and that may be true, but he appears to glide on the court and almost levitates in the air. When he jumps off movement he has incredible body control and his lift seems effortless. As others have mentioned, he often looks like he is going to hit his head on the rim. His height seems a legit 6'6" and I would be interested to know his wing-span, he looks to have nice length. Handle is nice in the open court, but we still need to see how well he can handle in traffic when attacking closeouts in the B1G--this is often what separates good from great. On a side note, when I saw Georgia was the competition, I immediately worried that $EC money bags would win out as we have seen so many times before. But not this time. I wonder if the NIL played some part in this. Nebraska fans will get behind a big-time recruit like Bryce and this could increase he NIL appeal. I also believe Moos, Frost and Fred are already being very "strategic" in developing ways to make sure the NIL pays "dividends" once implemented. Welcome Bryce-- GBR!

  18. Regarding bigs, Yvan proved adequate in the post last year and Walker should be capable as well. Hopefully Andre can be too. That would be two more bigs than what we had last year.

  20. Stephen Bardo will have to find a new catch phrase when he visits Nebraska now. I think McGowens probably realizes how good he is already.

  21. I like the length and athleticism of Eduardo Andre. I hope he’s not a stiff and has some skills. If he develops decently, he could be the missing link. A year from now is go-time and he better be ready.

  24. If Lat comes back, plus 2 out of 3 among Yvan, DW, and Eduardo, then I don't see any gaps in the roster. Regardless of what style we prefer to run , there will always be some B1G games where we need to grind out wins with a little bit of muscle. Having a true stretch big plus a couple traditional post players is a necessity. I don't have any concerns at the 1-3. Prior to Bryce I was worried about not having a true facilitating PG on the roster. Now I don't care so much. We have plenty of guys that can slash and pass, or slash and shoot. Now we've also got a guy who can slash, pass, and shoot at a high level. I just don't think a Glynn Watson/Cam Mack facilitator is needed to make the offense click now.

If Fred can recruit these guys after a 7-25 season, I can't imagine who we could pick up with more consistent success.

Since the dawn of the ranking system, he now becomes our highest ranked recruit. That honor was previously held by Glynn Watson.

  31. If these quotes from Bryce don't get you excited, not sure what else will!!! On being the highest ranked recruit in program history: "It's an honor," McGowens said. "It means that I have a chance to be a trendsetter. I want to attract the best players in the country to come to Nebraska." On his fit in the program "I feel like I can make a major impact from day one, doing whatever is needed to elevate the program to put us in a position to win a championship," McGowens said. "That's the goal. I've always prided myself on winning and we expect to be competing for a championship next season. I also want my impact to go further than the court, where kids across the country view Nebraska as a program to take serious." So, anyone know how I can pre-order 2022 final four tickets?!?! https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30310425/bryce-mcgowens-no-33-becomes-nebraska-highest-ranked-commit
