I get the comparison of Lakes to Korver, but the comparison to Fuck Creighton bewilders me a bit. I might not be remembering the details correctly, but I don't think Fuck Creighton was anything near 6'7" and I don't think he was much of a 3 point shooter. He made up for those shortcomings with an awesome name, though.

  3. If any team could do it, definitely would have to have been Nebraska basketball.

  4. I think that she now has 11 on scholarship along with one walk on. There seems to be potential for all three transfers, but also reasons to wait and see before getting too excited. One was honorable mention in the Big Sky Conf, one may continue to be hampered by knee problems, and one was a meaningful contributor at Texas Tech but hardly a difference maker. With only one senior and one junior (not counting status of the transfers), seems as though there is room for more transfers without limiting future recruiting. I still hope for one or two "sudden impact difference makers" with the physical maturity that developments after age 18 and who are proven performers in major conference competition. Situation looks better than it did two weeks ago.

  6. Stevenson, Banton, and Walker all stuck. When you run this sort of system, it’s going to take one meaningless season to free up those transfers. Now we’re rolling. And this philosophy isn’t really about 4-5 year projects. It’s now about redshirts. If you play for Fred, you have to be ready to play the day you arrive on campus. You’ll still get developed, but this philosophy is entirely about taking the best players right now. If a special blue chipper can crack the recruiting class, great, but that’s probably going to have to be someone with a legit shot at the league moving forward. I love it. We’re going to be formidable next season. The talent upgrade is through the roof.

  11. I think it's a fairly good chance Kobe King gets his waiver. Albeit, we thought the same thing about Stevenson but still. If I had to guess right now this is what I'd guess Ball handler: Kobe Webster Ball handler/wing: Delano Banton Wing: Teddy Allen Wing: Kobe King Big: Yvan Bench: Lat Mayen Thor Walker Stevenson (6th man for Kobe Webster or Dalano) Couple things to watch in my eyes. -big man rotation can have 3-4 guys who can play there. You can even start Mayen there and Stevenson at the 4. There's versatility across the lineup. Which Fred LOVES. I give the nod to Yvan right now cuz he has a full year of big ten under his belt and he will only get better. Walker, while he could and may be better, is a complete unknown in big ten play right now. -Delano would probably initiate the offense a lot and guard the opposing 4s. How he guards those 4s is going to be interesting to me. They'll use Kobe Webster in some sets as the initiator if they want to give dalano a break. Once again. Versatility. -the wings are all interchangeable and can play multiple positions. -the one area of the team that is lacking significantly is ball handlers or initiators. You have Kobe Webster and Dalano, and you could use Kobe King/Teddy Allen in a pinch but that isn't their primary roles and shouldn't be. -this team can be sneaky good and surprise some teams. You could honestly make an argument for about 5 different starting lineups. And we'll probably see about 3-4 different starting lineups throughout the year. OPTIONS AND VERSATILITY

    Ah, what the hell

Cross took some shots when he shouldn't have, but my point is Cross missed a lot of open looks that were designed for him to take. Let's hope he and the rest of his teammates shoot a higher percentage in year two. I'm not so sure Allen will be the 'MAN' or anyone else on this team, but hopefully most will have the ability to step up on any given night and deliver when needed.

  13. Glad I noticed those were adjusted to a 14 team league. Was going to say we really really sucked if we average 8.5th place in a 6 team conference.

  14. I tend to run optimistic, and I understand that. I appreciate this particular chart, it helps to temper the enthusiasm to a more appropriate level... and, man, when Timmy Miles had it good, it was good; yet, otherwise, it was a B1G woof...

  18. That was last year... a throw-away season as it turned out to be, the best possible year to tank, as it were. Even the blue-balled eastern Omahans didn't win jack, in the post-season. Let's focus on *next* year being a great year, however that ends up... and flush last season down the drain, as it should be--done & gone--like a B1G turd! The comment wasn't solely about just last season. Our performance in the Big Ten has consistently been an arms race among the other teams on who improves the most year-over-year. This gets us moving on the right trajectory, but finishing 10th in the Big Ten would still be a big win for us moving forward. Level-setting historical conference standings, we've struggled the most in the conference we're currently in. Again, I'm all for sunshine-pumping and moving into the next season with some big momentum; I just see progress as sustained and relative performance amongst our peers.

  19. Would hope for someone to develop into a goto type of player for us. Maybe a guard who could give us a reliable shooter and a passer in the paint. I like who they have coming in. Can they put this together if we have required isolation in the fall/winter? With so many new faces this group will need time to gel.

Agreed. She's the one I'm most optimistic about. There are no slouches by any means in the class, but they are unknown commodities (as in any class) as to how they can perform at the B1G level.

Of all the "Newbies" coming in for the upcoming season, Ruby Porter is the one I'm most excited for. She could be special from Day 1. The rest, we'll see.

  24. Let's not forget how bad we were last season. We're going to see an upgrade in talent this season, but the majority of Big Ten teams are going to see improvements in their programs as well. I'm all for sunshine-pumping optimism, but a #8-10 conference finish next season wouldn't be a stretch for being a "great" season for us.

Not so sure next season isn't simply a rebuilding year, but starting a whole new team. About half the team will be new to the program. Starting anew, from scratch. May have 5 or 6... or so ...ready from last year. This will be interesting to say the least. Anybody's guess how this will shake out. .....Can't wait to see how it develops actually. Could be pleasantly surprised. I'm the eternal optimist. Got my rose colored glass ready.

Coach Williams I'm sure will talk to Hoiberg about trying to mesh a team together with several new bodies. We'll see how it turns out, we filled positions of need but not necessarily convinced we will have the prowess to compete with most of the B1G. But the sum at times can be greater than it's parts.

  31. Christopher Heady @heady_chris Nebraska's got one scholarship spot open. What will they do with it? "We think we're in pretty good shape with a couple very high profile players," Fred Hoiberg said.

    Hey Everybody

I think you can go back and look at my contemporaneous posts following the scrimmage and they'll echo the same sentiment. I thought he looked slow. We'll see. I hope he's as explosive as that describes. By the way, I am willing to accept that our sit-out transfers could be better shooters than what we would imagine based on their career records. For Banton, Stevenson and Walker, their shooting numbers from their prior schools are based on small sample sizes. And when I saw them in the scrimmage, I thought Stevenson and Walker looked like they had decent mechanics from which they could develop a solid shot by grooving their range. Banton had a Lonzo Ball-esque windup and delivery but he could become fairly accurate with a year to sit out and develop his shot, and I strongly believe our coaching staff has the aptitude to teach shooting. My big question right now is what, if anything, are they doing to leverage the time they have during this strange off-season to make this team better next year. Besides recruiting. I assume any of the guys still in town would have access to the Hendricks Center, could sign up for times to come in and shoot, lift, do conditioning, etc. The staff could easily e-mail them a daily to-do list and could follow up with each of them through skype or zoom no matter where they are in the world. There's any number of things they could be doing right now. But whatever they're doing, I hope they're doing more than the guys in yellow and black to our east or the guys in orange and blue to the east of that. Or the guys in red and silver in Columbus or the blue and gold guys in Ann Arbor. Because if we want to catch up to those other teams, we can't have players show up in September fat and out of shape, having gotten no shooting reps in since March.

  41. We didn't even have a tournament this year. Regardless of which teams make it next year, if we have a Final Four it's not going to be a nightmare. The nightmare is now.
