  1. I'm not surprised she'd transferring. Long time ago I commented that I thought she should of been starting (including her freshman year) and that she was getting screwed by her coach. I said that it wouldn't surprise me if she transferred because what kind of coach doesn't start your leading scorer? This coming off the bench for the good of the team was B.S.. If you had 5 super starters then maybe I can see it but we didn't have 5 super starters. What kind of players want to come to NU and possibly be the best offensive player on the team and get stuck on the bench? You come to play and start. She should of been leading the team in minutes played by far (instead of 4th in playing time). I think the experiment with Coach Williams should be ended. Unless she pulls a rabbit of of her hat, next year is going to look like the men's team did this year. I would hope Moos would go out and get a top quality coach. We seem to always have the money to go after top coaches these days.

I agree when Thor has to be the focal point of the offense, but as a guy who can complement the other components, I have a hard time seeing Fred not throwing him in there. He can also shoot the hell out of the ball now, is a good finisher, and very good passer. He's also a serviceable defender. Those might be erasers for his deficiencies.

I agree that Thor might be a better fit off the bench but I would not have a problem if he starts just for the fact that I think we will score it better next year and I don't think he is a guy that needs to get his ups and will fit in well with 3-4 other scorers on the floor. He also seems to be a good lead by example guy so the coaches might want him on the floor for that reason since we will be inexperienced again.

  4. Don't have any special incite of course, but don't really think they all got home sick... all of a sudden. When three of your better players leave.....Just about has to be other issues. You could feel the fragileness sometimes last season. The season going sour again, may have worsened frustration issues, and some second thoughts about what I'm doing here? And. feel particularly bad for the rest of their teammates.

I hope things work out for Mack. Yeah he was kind of a pain with his attitude....but with the information that his mom is going through breast cancer, I can kind of understand a little better now. I hope his mom gets through this Ok.

  6. The one thing that is holding me back right now on going out and finding a new coach NOW is everything that is going on in the world. Do we really want to be going through a coaching search at this time?

  7. Meh-- One starter transfers... ok I can see that at schools. Two starters transfer... sure that may happen for some schools. But three likely starters transfering after losing multiple to graduation and one being your literal best player doesn't scream "this happens everywhere" to me. Sorry, I just don't buy that THIS happens everywhere. Starters-- sure, lots of transfers-- sure. But our situation-- no.

  9. I understand that the number of transfers is increasing in women's basketball. However, how many of those listed from other schools are starters or leading scorers on their team. We are not losing players looking for more playing time. I will not be surprised to see more players jump ship.

  10. Thanks for that info, NewHuskerFan. i was not aware of the number of players transferring out of other Big 10 schools. I agree with 12x12 that there are explanations other than coaching staff problems that don't apply here --- our transfers were not going to lack for future playing time and it's doubtful that they were asked to leave to make room for future incoming or future recruits. The other factor in the comparative count of transfers out is the number of transfers IN to replace them, and that remains to be seen. I hope for the best and with, as been pointed out, over 200 being available, it seems imperative that some come here. The only team I pay much attention to is the Huskers and it seems clear that the loss of the three juniors to be leaves the cupboard, for the present, pretty bare.

  11. As an additional thought .... I can't help but be disappointed with the ongoing export of homegrown talent to other other programs. I don't pretend to have any insight as to why they don't stay here. I wonder if a new staff would have any chance to persuade the Markowski girl from Pius to stay home. From watching her in the recent tourney, looks as tho a team could be built around her post presence.

When Matt A was doing his radio interview he talked about Banton and just from his description of what he brought to the table he made it sound like he would be one of the ball handlers to me. He also said their offense likes multiple ball handlers so that opens up the door to a variety of possible lineups. The thing I like about Banton is that he not only fits well within the offensive scheme his length will allow him to guard all those different positions as well. I disagree a little with Matt on the rebounding. I think it is hard to run and get into a transitional offense if you can't rebound. If you have a team that can generate steals you can get by perhaps. Also if you can't rebound your giving up 2nd chance points on both ends of the court so the only way to win is to never miss and hope they miss their bunnies. I thought that was our problem last year. IMHO every team needs at a minimum a few ball handlers and a few bigs. And when I say bigs I mean players that can rebound and defend down low.

I love Thor's effort, did even when he got spot minutes under Miles. But if he starts next year, unless he elevates his game as much between this year and next as he did before this year, we are in trouble. Not saying he should be buried way down the bench but I would hope we've "over recruited" him.

  14. You’re correct. Girls don’t leave if they’re happy and there is a winning culture. This isn’t about 3 girls who are all homesick.

First 10 mins are intro, etc, & Fred Hoiberg having to leave the game at Indianapolis because of illness. Starting about 10:00 talks about the team some, current status, very complimentary of Delano Banton. From 20:00 thru 33:00 talks about recruiting philosophies, transfers, and how recruiting has changed because of coronaviras limitations.

  17. We have always supported Leigha, what ever decision she has chosen for her future. I can’t say we got in her head as we had different opinions , that we kept to ourselves. We are thankful for the fans cheering her on when we couldn’t be there. Nebraska will be a part of her story we will always keep with us and we are grateful for the opportunity!

I'd be very surprised if Thor isn't under SERIOUS consideration for being a full-time starter next year as well. He's been a rock the past year-plus (incl. end of Miles' final yr.). Thor is a very heady player, and NU will need that once again with a lot of moving parts being inserted into the lineup, especially early on !

Not only this, but one could argue that the strongest part of Thor's game is actually his basketball IQ and being the glue that could hold everything together on the floor. He's at least a guy that won't be "looking for his" when he is on the floor. he is more of a team player.

  24. More than a few are starters. And some would probably be starters next year if they stayed with their teams. Just like Brown. Maryland starting center is transferring. So why?? Why did Notre Dame have so many transfers last year? Starters included. It happens. Some here just want to blame the coach. I think it is more than one issue. The big one for me is all these kids were the top dog on their high school + AAU teams and played most of the minutes in all games. But Div 1 is a completely different ball game. Not many are going to play more than 25-30 minutes a game for most schools.

Time for another movie report: I watched one with Paul Newman, one of my favorite actors, last night. It is called "Quintet" and I had never heard of it. It was for good reason, I discovered. It had to be the worst movie he ever made. An unintelligible post-apocalyptic movie set in a frozen world and written by Robert Altman who did MASH. A bunch of foreign actors were upstaged by their silly looking hats and Paul seemed like he just wanted to be somewhere else. Quintet was some stupid game they played which was never explained and the final shot of Newman walking across the frozen tundra must have lasted ten minutes or longer. Anyway, skip this one unless you need some laffs. I'll now list some of my Newman favorites to wash last night from my mind 1. Slap Shot 2. The Hustler3. The Sting 4. Cool Hand Luke 5. Hombre 6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 7. Hud 8. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof 9. Nobody's Fool 10. The Color of Money.

  26. I agree there could be a problem. To what extent? Play time, coaching style?? Disagree. It is getting to be very common. Here is a list of just BIG 10 schools for 2019-2020: Penn State - 5 Ohio State - 3 Wisconsin - 3 Maryland, Rutgers, Minn, Indiana - 2 each. Some other schools: North Carolina -5 Auburn - 7 Nevada - 7 Georgetown - 6 So all these coaches are the problem??
    1 point
  27. Just because it happens, doesn't mean there isn't a problem. This isn't all that common for our WBB. And, it isn't something done with little consideration. I imagine it is anything but simple, to transfer. There is the academic side to consider, credits to transfer, new location, new coaches, new teammates, and the possibility of sitting out a year? Transferring isn't done on a whim.
    1 point
  28. Call it what you want. Something isn't right with this staff and the players. No guarantees there won't be more transfers.

  29. No matter what system he is in, he will need to learn to defend better to see the floor. Shot selection might be an issue as well. (basically two things most Freshmen have to deal with)
    1 point
  30. Maybe they realized he isn't worth the headache to deal with either.

  31. I agree with points made by Karl. It's unlikely that any players of much ability will transfer in and quite conceivable that more will leave. Any of those named above have a chance to play out their careers on a winning team - or at least with teammates who play with energy and enthusiasm. Something went terribly wrong with chemistry between/among players and coaching staff this year. The prospect of next season looking like anything other than a dismal wasteland just cannot be escaping the attention of the four players named above. I am so sorry to say it, but I think this is the end of the Williams experiment. It can either end now with a new staff approaching the remaining players and searching the transfer portal with a sense of optimism and enthusiasm or end later after a season filled with embarrassing losses.

  32. Best of luck to Brown - she's one hell of a player! What are the odds she winds up at Notre Dame?
    1 point
  33. So does Brown transfer in conference? Does she petition to play right away and not lose a year? I will miss watching Brown play. I agree that there are internal issues between staff and players. Brown should have started all year. How many more will leave? How much more before Moos has to step in and make a change?
    1 point
  34. I really hate this. I like Coach. But it has become time for Moos to get involved. This cannot just be 3 girls getting homesick. There is a deeper issue here. We have noted several times that there seems to be a lack of improvement in the players. Now it appears that Coach has lost (at least a significant part of) the team. This next year is going to be ugly. Our returning team is Helms, Brady, Haiby, Cain, Kissinger and Bourne. Six players!! Add three freshmen and we are playing without any depth. With this mess, why would anyone want to transfer in?
    1 point
  35. Hate to see this but with the current health situation it is understandable a student might feel more comfortable at or near home. Maybe Leigha didn’t see the opportunity to win which might be available at IU or Purdue. Either would be happy to have her. Regardless of the reason for leaving this is a huge blow to the program.

Who was our other backup at the 5? Fred has publicly said he had no choice but to use him there and can't wait to see him at the 4 next season. Walker makes this inevitable. There was no plan to move Morrow to the 4. I think that's why he left.
