    Fred’s Pi**ed...

I've never understood the disdain, and in some cases downright hatred, people have for Cam.

  2. A lot of womens coaches have historically not used all 15 because of chemistry issues. it is really hard to keep 15 girls happy. Remember every girl that plays at college was a star in hs and most of them were full grown by 9th grade so they have been "the star" their entire careers. Most were starters as 9th graders and all conf by soph year and all state by junior year. That is not the case for boys. They grow late and there are way more good players so they are used to jockeying for PT their entire bball career so they handle it better if they don't get to play right away. Girls, and their parents, do not handle it as well for the reason stated above in my opinion. This is compounded by the fact that men practice against men all the time so even the subs are getting lots of reps in practice. With women practicing against mens practice squads a lot of the time it is really much harder to get kids 10-15 reps which can further enhance the dissatisfaction.

  3. I hope we keep Cam next season. I’d say playing the minutes he has on this team has earned him some respect regardless of perceived character. He’s been a warrior for us this season. He deserves to be surrounded with legitimate talent next year if he chooses to return.

  4. Both Charlie and Arop are D1 athletes, and both were offered D1 scholarships out of high school. Charlie has been a good player for us as a true freshman. If what he brought was the same thing brought by, say, scholarship player Samari Curtis, I'm sure everyone would be very excited about his future. I think he'll be a defensive specialist and deadly three point shooter by his junior year. His athleticism on defense shocked me, quite frankly. Arop is raw, but remember he is a freak athlete with an outside stroke. Fred tends to know what to do with those.

  5. Back on topic. Do "Face with Mask", "Face with Thermometer", and "Sneezy Face" mean that Dachon Burke didn't make the flight yesterday or would I need to see "Vomit Face" "Bed" and/or "Hospital" in order to definitively infer this?

  6. *Breaking News* Nebraskans are “provincial”... you see this everywhere, but even more so here. I don’t understand the haters on Mack & Green either, maybe we expected them to be better or bought into best case scenario (I know I did) Now is the time in a LONG season when people start “assigning blame” that accomplishes nothing. Fred’s seen all of this before & will lead us out of the woods. GBR my friends!

  7. I think he's a good player but I look at those 3pt shooting numbers and wonder if Nebraska is like me and coffee beers when it comes to transfers I will buy any coffee beer even if I know it's not going to be what I wanted.

For reference, the only Iowan who played even remotely significant minutes for Hoiberg at ISU was recruited walk-on Bubu Palo, who started three games in Hoiberg's first (disastrous) season and then saw his minutes decrease as the team improved to an NCAA Round of 32 and Sweet Sixteen team the next two years. As a freshman, Palo played in 32 games, starting 3. As a junior, he played in 21 games because he broke his wrist. As a senior, he played in 17 games, in part because he was suspended for half the season. His minutes per game decreased from year 1 to year 2, and from year 2 to year 3.

  9. I can assure you that Fredrick was very much trying to get that ball. He tried to box out Arop who just blew him away with such force that the Iowa crowd thought that Fredrick was fouled. I'm not entirely sure that Garza has an off switch. I don't know that if that is Yvan, Kevin, or anyone else down there that they come up with that ball. On a poor rebounding team, moments like this really stick out.

  10. Doesn't it seem like giving Donovan Williams the option to walk away is a sign that the staff isn't overly concerned about where any of our players come from? In that regards, your football call-in show talking point concern doesn't seem to be any sort of real issue.

  11. Some would call it a lack of maturity. I'm all for letting the kids celebrate and have zero issues with Cam's bow-and-arrow. My disappointment is his body language when things aren't going his way and his apparent pouting. He wants to be a pro then he needs to start acting like a pro.

  12. I don't think Cam will have a problem having to do less next year. It's not like he is shooting 30 times a game. He looks to pass way more than shoot. Hell, I'd like to see him shoot more if anything.

Whats to say they care more than anyone else? They are all competitors no matter where they are from and pretty sure they all want to win. Dont give me they care more cause they are from here. Thats a fallacy created by husker fans cause some walk on fb players had some success. I want all players to care and play hard not just cause they are from here. To think the players from NE have more heart is outrageous. Give me the best players who help the team compete and win anyday over an in-state player.

  15. Out of North Carolina. He went to HS at Quality Education Academy. I feel like someone we recruited went there but the only name I can find that I recognize is Andrew White's brother. He had some low D-1 offers though I believe the had academic issue and went the Juco route. Unless he would redshirt next year we're looking at 2 years starting in 2021 like Keisei Tominaga. Also like Tominaga, Ellis can shoot. Currently shooting 49% from the field and 43% from 3.

    2021 C Adama Sanogo

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm seeing Yvan with potentially a higher ceiling here. What I'm not seeing is a guy who can shoot 3s. I do not think we will play a lineup with two guys like that at the same time so if Sanogo is coming in here in 2020 he's splitting his playing time with Walker and Yvan. Unless he's going to walk in here and play 20-30 minutes a game, which I'm not convinced he is at all, we're much better off getting him in 2021 with another year of experience under his belt.

You know this about these players how? The old eye ball test? You can see today that neither of them will amount to much as college basketball players? They aren't the kind of players that can't help our program go? I strongly disagree. Akol is a true freshman scholarship player, who was the Nebraska Gatorade player of the year in 2019. The type of player we have been losing out on to our rivals the last few years. Charlie is a walk on, and who, like Akol was also an all state player. I also believe that he played on the same AAU team as Akol. We can revisit this post in 3 years. I have a feeling that it won't age well.

  26. I really like Cam as a player and because he’s so good, gets a pass from me over his on-court displays of emotion (good and bad). But I could see how people could be turned off. Dan dakich was the commentator for our game against Michigan and when Cam celebrated, he said ‘what are you doing? You’re in 13th place, get back down the floor.’ So I can see how some people may not like him if they share Dakich’s opinion. Have you seen seen him in a post-game interview after a loss? I remember one game it was cheatham and him answering questions. He has the body language of a mopey 15 year-old, while cheatham was calm and collected.

  29. I think this took a turn that was never intended, this has nothing to do with football. Let's get that out of the way right now. The team is scuffling, and Arop could be a bright spot as the season ends. I want him to do well. Let's not get carried away that will lead to anything further. He's a role player, and likely will be going forward.

  30. They're not walk-ons. And, yes, I want to see Nebraskans do well. It's obvious they all *should* care, and it's equally clear they all do not. That's my take.
    1 point
  31. Maybe that is something he should explain to Kevin Cross :)
    1 point
  32. Well he seems, based on photo, to understand that if you put your body between the ball and the other guy your chances improve a lot for getting the rebound.

  33. So, when your alma mater has lost 8 straight, I do like to see those who have earned a role that happen to be natives play because they seem to care more about their home-state team. And, of course they're really just role players, no one is suggesting they start in this thread. I do prefer to see them do well since they appear to be more invested in the Cornhuskers in the long-term. It's not a take that I *only* want to see them do well. That's a fallacy that you appear to have conjured up all on your own.

  34. My hope is Mack recognized his position on a lousy, but soon to be good team (next season) will help him immensely. If he stays he will have a decent chance at Big X player of the year, provided he listen to his brilliant coach. I have faith in coach Hoiberg and think if anyone can reach Mack, it will be him. That said, I am conditioned to the point of near nihilism- and certainly P.T.S.D. regarding NU basketball that I could see Mack being kicked off the team this year! In fact, I could see anything happen, provided it is horrible. I will choose to hold out hope that Coach H. will lead us to glory!

Actually, tbh, hilarity of your post aside - I actually am quite pleased with this season. 1. They guys have played hard and shown that they won't quit on Coach Hoiberg 2. Coach Hoiberg has demonstrated a lot of positive coaching strategies and techniques 3. We've seen that Thorir and Dachon could be incredibly useful pieces for next year 4. Our 17 year old center shows a ton of promise 5. All the tall guys sitting on the bench seem engaged and ready to go for next year 6. I like the recruits we're bringing in 7. I was right when I told all my friends that this could be a bad year, and they argued with me non-stop
    1 point
  37. That would be pretty shocking and seems like an overcorrection here. Hoiberg certainly has a policy on showing up on time. Doesn't seem like there is one regarding social media or the such.
    1 point
  38. It might be because he's playing against the other team's backups but Arop seems like far and away the best rebounder on the team. Appears to possess that ability to know where the ball is going to end up plus the ability to go get it. If I have time I need to go back and find that one point where there are 2-3 Iowa guys and he just appears between them all and ends up with the ball.
    1 point
  39. If this Sanogo thing works out I have a new play for Coach Hoiberg. You have this guy go to that rectangular thing near the paint, have him stand there, and then you throw him the ball.

  44. Im tired of hearing the NE guy take. Whether its fb with walk ons on people saying "he's from here and plays hard, play him." Get the best players and play them. Yeah Charlie plays hard but skills lack as well as Akol's and are more a liability at this point. Why get blown out more cause the NE guy "gets it" or plays hard. Sure I'll catch flack for this but lets be honest, these are role players that realistically in a right situation should be lucky to get 5-10 mins a game
