  1. I know sportsmanship, but asking bench players who don't get significant minutes to go into 4 corners and not take their opportunity to play their best is just begging for mercy instead of outplaying scrubs.

  2. If the players don't like being beating by 30+ and getting embarassed they have to stop the other team. If we aren't up to playing Big Ten basketball that's not Iowa's fault.

  3. Green - Best game easily as a Husker. Yvan - just a poor game for him Thor - really looked like the Thor of years past today. Just added very little. Cross - Looked over matched today Mack - better than last game but still not one of his better games Burke - played well for the most part, forced things a few times but far from our issues today. Cheatham - AWOL today and hopefully the calf injury is not serious but it sure looks like it. Arop - Raw but liked the hustle and effort. Kavas - Who would have guessed how poorly he would be offensively when he signed. He really struggles on defense but really figured he would give us some points along the way. Easley - Love the effort on defense, is a liability on offense when the game is not out of hand. Came out flat to start the game and again at half time. Not sure what happens at half but we HAVE to be better in the first 5 minutes of the second half.

  4. If there is a website that tracks FG % from inside 5 feet, I'd wager a lot of your money that we're in the bottom 10% of college basketball. We just make basketball so much harder than it is designed to be! I do like the resiliency we showed after the brutal start. Putting forth effort for a full 40 minutes has been the tough part.

  5. i would have to question that. maybe i am wrong, but, i just don't see a team that has given up on their coach. granted, i have only been able to watch a few games on tv and listen to matt and jeff during all the games. i don't see any kind of hint from matt and jeff, either.

  6. Glad I didn't shut off the TV at half time. Entertaining 2nd half. Maybe, we'll take some positive things from this game. We didn't give up. And, those contributing, got most of the minutes. Shelved the wholesale subbing, at least for a half.

  8. I should add that Cross having 5 assists is a welcome surprise. And Burke's drives are a welcome sight since his perimeter shot isn't working. And, rather optimistic to see this: Green was great, which was great to see; Same for Akol Arop, I really liked his energy, along with the weekly yeoman's work from Charlie.

  10. I hate Iowa, but Franny didn’t do anything wrong in this one. He put scrubs in with 8 to go. I mean. Come on Fred and Co., you gotta play hard and outplay their scrubs.

  11. To be sort of fair to Iowa, they did clear their bench and pulled all of their starters out with just under 10 minutes. I'm not sure you can tell the kids that hardly ever play to not play hard or make smart basketball plays. I have no issues with them shooting 3's and playing hard. Like Scott said, it's our job to stop them. Oh, and to remember this and to return the favor at some point in the future!!!

  17. I was at the game and as usual we started out lack luster. Once the freshmen started a comeback during the second qtr the large crowd really helped the rest of the way. In summary just like the Iowa game the big difference me was in our point guard versus theirs. They make everyone around them better. Irreguardless we should have won this game. Tied at 53 with the ball and under one minute left with the crowd really into it. All the momentum on our side. We work the ball around after a time out and then here it comes another extremely low percentage (no look) pass from Hannah to Kate who wasn't looking either. Another nail in the coffin turnover. Way too many offensive fouls by us as well in the 4th qtr. Don't know how many we had in the game but there was a lot.

  18. Indiana was clearly better prepared at the start of the game. They earned quality shots and had us thoroughly scouted on what we try to do offensively (Which I haven’t figured out). IU’s post players had a variety of moves inside and attack towards the basket, we fade away except for Bourne. IU’s wings and guards also attacked towards the basket, NU, not so much save for Helms. I cannot figure out if we played better defense or they just shot poorly in the 2nd half. Izzy Bourne needs to start, she is productive and runs the court. Mershon has earned more time with her hustle. Shake up the starting lineup and maybe we will have a team ready to play. IU played physical, we have to toughen up and match the physical play. When we did, we got back into the game. I expect a team that had better be on fire to begin the game against PennState. Of course, I expected that today!

  21. Iowa's Franny isn't known for class in the arena. Now, maybe outside of the arena he's all class, but he sure isn't in the arena. Oh well. If anyone truly thought NU was going to win, they simply had blind optimism.

  22. I think we found out. They didn't like losing to a poor NU team earlier, either.

  23. Yep. Cant ask kids who rarely get to play to not play hard. I will say the same thing in the next couple years when we are waxing other teams regularly.

  26. Every time I see Garza vs. Yvan on the block, I think "How is it that we have a 17-year-old high school junior from France guarding the nation's best big man, a 21-year-old college junior from Dorktown?" Then I think about next year.

  27. Garbage shot goes in for them. We really need to get some goofy looking kids that can shoot threes like Iowa has.

  28. San Diego St, Gonzaga, Kansas and Baylor could all be possible #1 seeds West of the Mississippi River. Won’t happen. My earliest TV memory of NCAA Tourney is Don Haskins Texas Western group beating Pat Riley, Tommy Kron, Thad Jarasz, Larry Conley and Louis Dampier’s Kentucky squad.

  29. Speaking of historic interest, 49er's post and the fact that I am presently reading a book on CCNY's NCAA championship (and scandal) in 1950 made me look up all of the NCAA winners since 1930. Of course that includes UCLA's Wooden era. Using that yardstick, West Coast teams outnumber Big !0 champions, 16-11. Brought back some memories too. I vaguely recall KU's Phog Allen and Clyde Lovellette team of 1952. The first game I remember listening to on the radio was the Tom Gola- led LaSalle team in 1954. The first game I saw on tv (since we didn't get one until 1957) was the triple overtime classic that year when North Carolina beat Wilt's KU team in triple overtime. It was only televised locally because it happened to be played at the old KC Municipal Auditorium (we could only get reception from Kansas City since we lived nearby). Didn't much matter because there were only three networks, anyway. Times seem to have changed a bit, but at least the ball is still round.

  30. - The game got off the start many feared, maybe expected. - I liked their response after falling behind. - I look forward to having a competitive front court someday. - That three at the end of the half made me pretty upset... - Iowa did all the things they didn't do in Lincoln, which was pretty expected. - Iowa should always remember that the worst team in NU history still beat Iowa. - I'm not sure which is more disheartening, being a terrible free throw shooting team or not being able to hit layups?

  40. Not being able to rebound. Also, the talk of Arop redshirting should be shifted, in my opinion, to "Should Yvan redshirt?" We have Stevenson and Walker coming eligible, with Mayen coming in for next year. Cross and/or Arop should be able to provide 10 decent minutes a game behind them, so why not give Yvan a chance to grow up and learn the game? If he sits out his 18-year-old season, then that gives him a chance to play as a 21-year-old senior, which is just about right. Of course, this all presumes he'll still be around in four years. Or one.

  41. Made the trip to Iowa City today ... probably about 50 Husker fans there in total. Nice place to see a game. Good home crowd (except for the fact they are Iowa fans ... annoying) and sight lines. Gets loud in that dug in, dark bowl of an arena. - I don't know why, but I continue to be amazed at how many lay-ups (especially Yvan) and shots we miss around the hoop. - Green brought good energy today, but does tend to freeze up the offense a bit. One of our better players today though. - Better effort and engagement by Mack today ... like others I have my doubts about whether he'll be here next year, but I hope so. - We are just so outmanned. Need to improve at all positions desperately. Gonna take a lot of patience ... - Cheatham has really disappeared for the most part the last month. Gets out of control a lot. Wonder where his motivation is given being a grad transfer on a really bad team. - Burke can do a lot of good things, but just a tad wild and impatient. - We have to play zone anytime Kavas is in the game. Our use of the zone got us back in the game in the 1st half. - I like the thought of what Cross can become and how he'll fit in next year. - Iowa fans are annoying and complain a lot, even when up 30. - Iowa has a lot returning next year ... could be good for a while. THIS IS GETTING TOUGH TO WATCH ...

  44. when do we copy the rockets and stop playing a center? y'van and cross just aren't ready to play at this level. y'van missed 2 layups that lead to 2 transition 3s and now this game is already almost out of reach.
