    Setting Records

Thankfully, the football program has been preparing us for this.

  2. Didn't see the game, but Rutgers is one of those teams that gets away with aggravated assault on a regular basis. Has for years. I'll never really understand why some teams are allowed to play thug ball with impunity. Are the Three Stooges afraid of the coach?

  3. I guess who really cares if we lose 20+ games this year. In my opinion, it doesn't really change the narrative or future of the program. Hoiberg is in year 1 and to steal a phrase from PJ Fleck in Minnesota, we should really treat this as Year 0. When you're given a month to field a team, the lack of results shouldn't be surprising. I'm more encouraged by some of the performances we've seen against the likes of Iowa and Purdue knowing that these will be the exception this year and not the rule as we we will be very inconsistent all year. But, you can see an identity at times forming and its just going to take more dudes and time for this to completely come together. This is a process (when is it not for Nebrasketball!) and we're building towards year 2 and especially year 3. What's fascinating is that if you look at Lunardi's recent bracketology he has 11 BIG teams in the field and 1 more (Minnesota) as the first team out of the field. This is utterly astounding and is a good year to be rebuilding. I look forward and hope we can give our conference bubble teams a "bad loss" down the stretch. The conference certainly did us no favors a few years back when we were relegated to the NIT a after winning 22 games so hopefully we can pay it forward this year to a team or two!

  6. Rutgers; & Maryland, too! I think it's their version of 'street-ball.' @Redhac makes some good points in his posts - it's No Secret how they Play or what they Do! I don't know of any B1G law or Big Ten rule that says we can't be a team of athletic aggressors too, and go in and make them Uncomfortable in Their House. What we need is a Team Full of ('Not so') Nicea Eliely's to disrupt Their play!

  9. This program hasn't won an outright regular season conference championship in over 100 years. Maybe a 20 loss season or two would have helped this program over the last century. Baylor went 0-17 in the 1944-45 season. The next year they went 25-5 and made it to a regional semifinal. The HUH (Huskers Under Hoiberg) will be just fine.

  10. Ha, well that seems like a prisoner of the moment mentality and I agree the losing wears on the patience of a fan base that has been told to be patient since the beginning of time. Hopefully, they continue to redefine the culture, attitudes and the commitment needed in doing what it takes to get this program over one of the tallest humps in college basketball. I don't think many people established expectations at the beginning of the year that this would be a tournament team or even a very good team for that matter. The losing sucks but it isn't unexpected. I think we are going to have to measure progress this year based on the eye test and if this team is more competitive and perhaps a little more consistent in March than it was from November - January. That doesn't necessarily mean that results will be tangible in the form of more wins. It's more about buy in and setting the foundation for years 2 and 3 in my opinion. And, if we win a tournament game or two in year 3 or 4 or 5, will this 20+ loss season really matter in the grand scheme of things? That's the perspective I'm trying to have when I watch some downright awful basketball at times this year. I always try to keep the glass half full with whiskey or something stronger this season!!!

  11. I suspect some cut and paste issues, here. First, the Badgers are 11-7. Second, they are the Badgers, not the Hoosiers, and they will go 9 deep. And Armaan Franklin is not a Badger. Kobe King is far from an exclusive outside shooter-he's the slasher-type of player. He is a mid-range shooter, however.

  12. I don't necessarily disagree with the bolded part, but we all know that NU gets called for some of the most ticky-tack BS on a regular basis. Hard to just decide to play more physical when the SOP of Three Stooges Amalgamated is already working against you.

I can get in line with that thinking! Personally, I take it a step further - I want to see her face as little as possible.

Yeah, I was surprised by that too, Whoop, when she pared her list of ten schools to five. Here's hoping she picks the Huskers.

  15. I think it more based on their rep. As an official you know they play hard defense so you allow them to play that way. It just like when we have a group of three come in and you know they call every little touch or they let you bang some. I am not sure who arranges for them to do games but if it is by the team or the league then they make sure to bring in a trio that allows a more physical game. If the league arranges it they need to change it. but I have said for years that what NE gets called for and what Maryland, or Rutgers gets called for are most time two different things.

  18. Totally agree whoop that is a huge deal and I have noticed it too. Not playing after having a big hs career is not easy and she is handling it like a champion.

Well yes....your people fouling non stop will have that affect. Come on coach... teach them how to play and not run long deep scratches down the back shoulder of our kids ! And yes also...we were more aggressive the second half....and took the game away from you.

  22. while huskers did look rather sluggish, have to give Michigan some credit. they can play pretty good defense (with a little help from the refs ) good to see huskers pull it together much of the last two quarters.

  23. We weren't the only ones that thought the refs were bad. “I feel like things didn’t go our way,” Michigan coach Kim Barnes Arico said. “I don’t know if that was an officiating thing or what, but we couldn’t get a call down the stretch and it seemed like they got the whistles down the stretch. They got to the free throw line both in the third and fourth quarter, which was a really different swing than in the first half. “(The calls) took us out of what we were doing and changed the momentum. They seemed to be more of the aggressor in the second half.”

    MICHIGAN game day 1-19-20

Took a haymaker to start the second half. I didn't expect it, but NU gave it right back. Good for them - they just need to strive to play that hard all the time. It's nice when 3 players combine for 12 of 17 behind the arc. As mentioned, officiating, as usual, was horrendous. 2 fouls on Cain were absolute jokes, but Michigan No. 15 got one late in the game that was just as bad. The foul called on Bourne after the Michigan player plowed in to her hard, not once, but twice, was quite possibly the worst call I've ever seen in my life. The color commentator said Bourne moved forward into the Mich. player. BS. She never moved - great defense. She has the right to that position and to stand her ground. All contact was initiated by the offensive player. Also, as mentioned, NU's rebounding is so bad. I call it 'spectator rebounding.' In general, they just stand in the spot they happen to be occupying at the moment (only boxing out if an opponent happens to run into their backside) and hope the ball comes to them. Other teams kill them game after game because they go hard after the ball. Williams needs to take a hard look at what they're teaching them regarding rebounding, because it's just embarrassing at times. Lacking just a tad in quickness and athleticism does have some effect on rebounding, but the difference is not enough that effort and technique can't even the playing field. NU was fortunate that the Michigan player that got hurt early couldn't return. In the minute she played, she was running circles around NU's defense. If she plays the whole game, I expect the outcome would've been different.

Nicea will leave a huge gap on the defensive end. Not sure we have anyone on the roster currently, to play that role. Brady, maybe. Would take improved conditioning, and a dedicated mind set, to be our stopper.

  27. Gutty performance by Brown. That first drive to the basket just after she came in was a blocking foul on MI before it was a jump ball. That is all you need to know about the refs yesterday. I will say we fans harp about traveling but most will let them take two steps when you are making a basketball move to the rim. Just watch the NBA, they do it all the time. That by the way it where it came from.
