  1. Nice win today. Bothers the inbreds to the east to lose to us. Just need to remind them, they have bad corn.

    IOWA GAME THREAD 12 28 19

One could also say we benefited by Doyles 4-15 shooting. ... Not really a team leader stat that helps win games. It's almost like she lets the old "I left NU" thing get to her when we play...it's in her head. Anyway....a very good win that was well played. We deserved to win. We were the better team today....Enough said.

    2020 G Donovan Williams

Donovan is a good kid and a very good player. I wish him the best. From everything I have heard, this decision was a long time coming and it started when Tim was let go. Philosophically the new staff and Donovan were not on the same page. Nuff said in my mind. Again, I wish Donovan well...I hope that he goes to a school that we never face. And if we do have to play against him or his team, I only hope we run over him like a squirrel on the road and leave him as road kill...metamorphically speaking of course.

  5. Our Huskers made the front page of the sports section of the OWH this morning, about beating Iowa. Our ladies are pretty proud of the win, and feels like it's an important step forward for the team. There's a first... that I've never seen about the NU women's team... a great full page picture of the team celebrating after the game. (click it to enlarge) Doyle even gave us some credit for our tough defense. Nice article...but it's in the paper or on line...both subscription.

  10. We've talked before numerous times..... The 15 max roster. As a team, the preferred practice is to replace graduates on a kind of "rational" basis....not too many at any one time. Don't graduate half your team in an given year. So, try to recruit 3 or 4 per year ideally. Not so easy to do though (can get complicated). Keep players so they don't want to transfer, etc etc issues. Injuries, etc Coach Amy isn't gong to turn down a great recruit just because of numbers obviously. Coach is developing the team the way we all hoped she would. Still in progress, but very positive progress. Yes, we have a little room to expand, but carefully. I'm real sure the staff spends hours, and hours, on this very subject. Seems to be paying dividends.

  11. Well said Norm From everything I've been told makes me believe that Donovan wanted to play for the Huskers but wasn't quite sure that the new staff wanted him. While Hoiberg didn't necessarily want him but honored his commitment because he was a highly ranked city kid who just suffered an injury.

  12. Lot's to unpack with this game. We won quarters 2,3&4 because we started attacking the glass. Most particularly the offensive glass in the second half. They dominated the glass in q1. Iowa's point guard sitting had no bearing on the game. We stretched the lead from 3 to 11 with her in. Add to that little miss flop got to the line 3 times on clean stuffings and a forth ( I admit Kate hit her arm, but she did jump in to Kate). 6 of her points were officiating gifts. Now to are side, I thought Kate did a great job most notably getting back in transition. She did much better with that than I expected. That's why she gets my game ball. Nicea was the next closest with the stout d. We got contributions from unexpected sources which is most welcome, as Miss Brown and Miss Verbeek had relatively quiet nights for them. Finally Miss Bourne wow does she have some athleticism. We need her to aggressive up more frequently. The officiating OMG. Teams get full time outs for a shoe lace AYKM. Other than the inconsistency on calls, the rewarding of flops and do we know what a walk is. All in all good win. GBR

  16. This is certainly the most talented and versatile team coach WIlliams has had at Nebraska and if they play up to their ability should clearly be the best team she has had also. The 17-18 team wasn’t nearly as talented but had exceptional grit and toughness. If this team can harness some of that toughness they have a chance to finish top 4 in the league and make a round of 32 appearance in the NCAA tourney and possibly a sweet 16 run if they get a good draw. They have a lot of work to do but it is certainly possible if they continue to improve and stay healthy

  17. interesting stats from the box score. We had a better percentage shooting, both the 2's and 3 pointers. but close overall. We outscored them in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th qtr's Our bench outscored their bench 24 to 9 ...I think it was. Coach's play everyone scheme works ! ....even if we (this board) ...were not used to it at first :) Rebounds about the same. I thought Izzy's blast in the 2nd qtr I think it was.....shocked Iowa. It seemed to turn the tide. 4th qtr....Iowa only had 5 baskets..10 points....(and had 11 more points.. free throws). Observation: Iowa wasn't going to win without buckets from the floor. And a huge deal I kind of missed during the game ...Nebraska won the turnover battle 18-13 while outscoring the Hawkeyes 24-9 off those turnovers. (Husker.com)

  18. I'm looking forward to Brady playing herself into shape. Could she be our next 'Jasmine' type stopper? Make some improvements on defense, and take care of the ball better, could be a fun year. As mentioned, excellent team victory today.

  19. Very nice win. Beat Iowa...congratulations and thank you ladies. You were awesome. Played tough and hard every minute. Our depth was the difference...really slowed down Iowa in the second half. And maybe I'm wrong...but seemed like our overall talent maybe was a little better than Iowa too. They seemed to panic when they couldn't over take us. They expected us to fade....no chance of that happening !! This obviously is Coach Amy's best team. It's taken a while, but she essentially started from scratch with some newbies...and here we are.... tough and competitive. Good plays by many players at different times...everyone contributed....a real TEAM win

  21. There was a point DEEP in the contest when both teams were shooting @ about a 28% clip, but hey we put em away & got the “W”. Need to really push the pace against Rutgers & start making our layups dammit...!

  22. Liked our defense. Mack would have had 12 to 15 assists if his teammates would finish. We missed 12 layups if my count was correct. Also missed 6 or so wide open threes. Folks, the offense works but players need to make plays.

  24. Glad we got the win. Team played with much better energy compared to the North Dakota game. Yvan can and should have good games against most non conference opponents. They can be a nice confidence builder for big ten play. Cheatham continues to be our steady player who has the on court leadership. Mack seemed to have a lot of layups miss, I do think he was fouled on a couple of drives, but no call Much better defensive effort from the guys, especially Jervay. He was really hounding his guys. Going to need to have a great week of practice and scouting to get Rutgers, they are a very physical team. oh yeah, Red Panda is a treasure, I was in awe. GBR!

  25. Would be surprising if he came here given the glut of players we have and the difficulty of flying from LA to Lincoln vs Dallas or DC. Semester starts on Jan 13th. Last day to register is Jan 20th.

  32. From @hhcmatt's Game Day Essentials: "If Nebraska has a sense of urgency, they'll break this thing open early and cruise. If they don't and let TAMCC hang around, this will be another trouble game." Can't let them back in the game in the 2nd Half!

  33. We've done a really good job at closing up the passing lanes and disrupting their flow. But we continue to be atrocious within 3 feet of the boards on offense.

  46. I'm gonna suggest a scenario that I think is more than plausible that puts everyone involved in a better light. No one's being a diva; no one abandoned anyone or didn't try hard enough to re-recruit him. Etc. etc. So, you're a HS kid who's a 4-star-level recruit. And you suffer a bad knee injury in the off-season so you can't do the AAU summer circuit and your senior season is in jeopardy. It's a bad deal. Extremely disappointing. Extremely. Fortunately, you've already committed to a school ... but they have a new coach after the one you originally committed to got fired. Which sows a little bit of doubt in the back of your mind. You've never had a bad injury before, certainly not one that knocked you out of commission for almost a year and one that might be difficult to overcome. Not impossible to overcome, but certainly difficult. You have doubts - however unfounded those doubts might be - about whether you'll be able to return to the same level of ability that you had before. You worry that you'll lose some of your quickness. You worry that you won't regain some of that leaping ability. You worry that you won't be able to live up to the hype and hope that the fans of the program you committed to probably expect of you. You worry that the new coach who runs the program you committed to has the same doubts about your ability to recover from your injury that you have. You don't want to come across like you're "needy" but you'd like some reassurance. Some affirmation. Something. Just give me a sign that you believe in me the way the old coach who I committed to would have done. Recruit me like I'm not committed. So that I know that you think I will still be the player I hoped that I was going to be before I got hurt. Send me a sign. Something. Anything. Oh. Word is you're recruiting a juco kid who seems to maybe, possibly fill the role I had imagined for myself. OK. Well then. Now what do I do? Switch gears. Now you're that new coach. You're an alpha male and not in the habit of trying to put yourself in the brain of a talented high school basketball player who's already committed to your program and who has seemed very firmly committed ever since you first met with him. You've got a program to run. You have hit some bumps in the road and have some internal issues to deal with. You're looking at your roster and trying to figure out your needs for the immediate future. We need some rebounding. Gotta find a kid who can get some boards. Man, oh man, need some shooting. Gotta land a shooter. Kid with ties to the state and some high-level D1 experience comes on your radar. OK, so him and Donovan. That should address a couple of those acute needs, right? Right. So who's the bad guy in this situation? Nobody. Would have preferred Donovan handle things with a bit more tact and discretion after the fact. But if you are that talented recruit who got hurt and felt doubt about how complete your recovery was going to be and was worried that the new coach wasn't as committed to you as you wanted him to be and, therefore, decided to decommit, you would want everyone who was following you to know that your decision was justified. That it wasn't just based on emotion or silly crap like that. A person in that situation might feel the need to sell the decision so that others would accept it. Sometimes our sales pitches don't reach the mark. A 19-year-old kid with no sales experience might have that problem.

  47. Donovan Williams sure seems to be coming across as a dude who wants to be wanted. Good luck finding a home where he'll be "the man" as a FROSH when D.W. isn't a one-and-done a la Kentucky. I'm not convinced he's as good as D.W. thinks he is. I guess only time will tell the tale of the tape.
